We drove down to the keys and had a great time, but also had no batteries for the cameras. Widget slept thru most of it so we don't have any photos from the truck. We only got a handful of pics during the drive. We stopped at a seafood place on the way called Montey's. I highly recommend it. It's a little shack with picnic tables on the deck, great food, and draft beer. We found a cheap room right on the gulf. You walked out our sliding glass doors and 30 feet down the private beach was the water. The place was option free but it sure had the location and we were there for the water, not the accommodations. It had a cool little open deck bar Ugly McNasty's and a nice pool, both right on the gulf. First night down, we went straight to town and shopped the gift shops while hitting the bars. The next morning we decided to stop by this little internet cafe in the front of Hogs Breath and see how you all were doing. The site was down. Damn OLM!!!! I tried to blow it off and go back to enjoying the vacation but within 15 min, we turned around and went back to the truck. I grabbed my cell phone and we started walking to the waterfront. I was on the phone with tech support for 40 min. They had mistakenly shut down the site due to traffic and I couldn't convince them to turn it back on. Said I'd have to go online to their site and pay for a traffic upgrade. Dude couldn't get it through his head that, I didn't need the upgrade. I already had the traffic allowance. They had somehow made a mistake and turned it off. Now he said it was impossible to turn back on without me going back to their page. I didn't have my account password. i never need it and it's some jumbled random mess of shit. When i finally got off the phone furious, nothing had been accomplished. the site was still down and god knows for how long. By now I'm pissed and we hike all the way back to the truck so I can grab the laptop and the back cd's of the site. <font size="1">(yes they were in the truck, you don't think i'd leave something as important as SFN in the room)</font> We brought it back to the internet cafe, i grabbed a Heineken and started digging thru disks and the laptop for the info i'd need to get to their site and make the necessary corrections. Figured I'd deal with the double billing when i got home if they charged me again for reinstating my traffic allowance, once again Bastards! Luckily i found what I needed and scribbled it all down on a napkin. Then moving over to their T1 line I filled out their form 10 times. none of them working correctly. evidently they finally realized their shit was broken and got us back on. I had 6 different bill confirmations waiting for me when I got home. They are taking care of it but what a pain in the ass.

We were short on beer <font size="1">(I may have had something to do with that.)</font> so the captain radioed the other boat and instructed them to tie a keg to one of the floats and toss it over board. We came a round and sailed right up next to it. One of the crew hocked the float and pulled it in. Once back, we hit a couple more bars, grabbed a seafood buffet <font size="1">(the only bad meal of the entire trip)</font> and headed back to the room at a decent hour. We had to get up early for the long drive back up the keys to catch a 4:00 flight out of West Palm.</td></tr> <tr><td colspan=3 align=center><font face="Arial" size="2" color="Black">Turns out we should have just spent another night in Key West. Wild fires had been burning up the everglades for days, but they were supposedly out in the morning. By the time we made the drive up to Key Largo, the fire were raging again and we couldn't get off the island. Would have been cool if we thought to take pictures of any of this, but we were so preoccupied with returning the truck and making the flight, we totally forgot. Short version of the story, we sat out in the sun for 4 hours at the front of a huge ass long line. Fireman got the fire under control and we were able to drive thru after all. Airline and the rental company bumped us a day for free so we spent an extra day in Florida. <img src="http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt=""></td></tr> </TABLE>

Looks like a good time. I have been down there a few times,they run a boat down from where I live so it saves me the drive. I was thinking of you guys when I heard on the news they were closing the road because of the fires I didn't know if you had left by then or not. Thanks for the pics.

Yes, that trip was desperately needed! We really had a great time. I wish we would have had more time and that I had been able to do some more careful planning ahead of time. (I only bought our airline tickets 10 days ahead of time). But we scouted out a lot of things this time and are hoping to go back in November when Jimmy Buffet is there! We already have our hotel selected and a client of mine who goes to Key West like three times a year gave me a bunch of great info on places and things to do. Can't wait! In the meantime, I guess we will be making weekend trips to the beach here at home and crusin around in Mutt's Jeep! Gonna barbeque tonight. The weather here is awesome!
