Well Jane, as far as what I meant above, I follow Howards example ignoring the existence of *them*
In my general life, it goes like this.
Before I started listening to Howard I was really rather shy and withdrawn. I never spoke up for what I wanted and pretty much let people walk on me. My life absolutely sucked and I knew it and I was miserable.
Then I started listening to the show more intently and taking a harder look at Howards life and my own and I found myself looking up to Howard as a kind of role model.
I know it sounds silly but it worked for me.
I started standing up for myself and feeling better about myself.
Then my world crashed down around me, I caught my wife in bed with my alleged best friend and left my hideous marriage. It was at this point that I hit the bottle pretty hard, eventually leading to a drunk driving arrest which led to me losing my business and nearly my house. I'm sober since 5/96 and in a relationship with a great girl now whom I met by simply saying "Hey, what do you think of the Stern Show".
Howard has been there for me every morning or night, when he first syndicated to Boston
his show was on at night.
I try my best to do what I think Howard would do in any given situation.
Which just means being as honest as I can.
Basically, Howard Stern has taught me to be real and true to myself and the people I love.
I feel that I am a better person for listening to what is much, much more than just a radio show to me.
Go ahead and criticize that if you want.
I really don't think it can be criticized because it's the truth. Remember, truth can be beautiful or ugly but it cannot be criticized into a lie.

Gary, I loved what you said, and would never criticize it. The reason I asked you the question, was that I was afraid you were going to say something like you used Howard as a role model in the way he views women, which is only an act on the air. I'm glad you didn't say that. I respect you for opening up on this public forum, and for being honest. You've had some rough times in your short life, and should be proud of how you've come through them. You're all the stronger for it now. Don't be the least bit uncomfortable about being so influenced by Howard. Can I tell you something about myself which may sound even more outrageous than that? thanks. Before I saw the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show', like 20 yrs. ago, I was your average single girl from New Jersey, taking a place down the shore with a friend. Then I saw the movie for the first time. The basic messsage of the movie is that if you feel that you are different, outside the mainstream of society in some way, and perhaps suffer in life because of it, you are OKAY! The lyrics of one of the songs are "Don't dream it, BE it!" Well, this woke something up in me, and the very next morning, I was a different person. An entirely different person. The real me came out. I got involved with the film, started acting it out in front of the screen, the other people involved became my life for a year. I then moved into NY, and the rest, well, it doesn't matter. I'm trying to draw a parallel between the both of us, Gary. Thanks so much, and continue to have a great life.
