Here's an analogy which will hopefully tell you why pro-O&A arguments are laughable:

Imagine Howard Stern is the FORD Motor Company.

(i.e. Ford is known throughout North America, and has been around a long time, pioneering many innovations in car manufacturing, and have thousands of dealers across North America)

Imagine O&A are the SKODA Motor Company.

(i.e. Skoda is not well know throughout North America and have not been around all that long, and they have not pioneered anything regarding automobile manufacturing and have a only a handfull of dealers across North America)

Now you are a salesman, (an O&A fan), and you come to me and tell me that SKODA is the greatest car ever made, and infact SKODA is the pioneer and main innovator in car manufacturing, and that their car is the best ever made.

Well as the "buyer" I'll think you are crazy, first I've never heard of Skoda, never seen a dealer, never seen a commercial, and none of my friends drive one. Yet you profess to your grave that SKODA is the biggest, baddest, most innovative car ever made.

As you can see there is no comparison between Howard and O&A, except in the minds of O&A fans.

For starters, Skoda has been around since 1895. They started off making bicycles, and moved on to making motorized vehicles in 1901 and cars in 1905. Considering that the Czech Republic (home of Skoda) spent decades under Soviet oppression, their product is quite good. May I also remind you that not too long ago people had a similar attitude you are exhibiting towards Skoda when it came to a little company from Japan called Honda.

Cacatender, it is my opinion that "Fightclub" was simply a "good" movie, not worthy of slavish devotion. If you were a long-time Stern fan or even a casual fan, you would know the whole hernia reference refers to a soundbyte from a phony phone call.You said you stopped listening ten years ago, so it's lost on you, hey! call into the O&A show and ask Anthony, he'll get the refernce. Well, Kang(sorry I'm a bit late, but I was real busy at work this week) that was the most interesting response I've heard from someone on this board. It seems that you might even have a mind, but I should not give you that much credit yet. As for me having to quote O&A, yeah I do... so what? People on this board quote Stern all the time. But if you want to have an intellegient convo about this, I am more than willing to participate. And, just because Fight Club had a couple of gay inuendos, does not mean I am gay bc/ I really liked the movie...? I liked the concept, the ideaology behind the movie, the fact that it was anti-establishment- something you may not understand... So I guess if the owner of a great restaurant is gay, then those that go there to eat are gay as well? That is such a limitted mentality... I am secure enough about my sexuality, that I can overlook a couple of gay inuendos thrown into a movie and enjoy it overall.

Cacatender, define "interesting". Get over this "anti-establishment Fight-Club bullshit, the film wasn't an independent release, and won't show up on IFC or Encore in the near future. Take everything that comes out of Hollywood with a huge grain of salt.

I listen to O&A very sporadically, they aren't "essential" to me like Stern "is/was"(according to who you speak to). For every one thing I may like(Anthony's sharp wit and some pretty funny sound fx) there are 5 or 6 things I don't like(namely Opie and the insufferable callers, "Today I learned... I could give a f**k what anybody learned!, and a plethora of half-assed comedians) If they brighten up your day and make you laugh, that's great.

"Likeability", and the " I could have a beer with them" factor , means f**k all to me. I don't watch Letterman or John Stewart or Conan and think "Hey, they care about the fans", or " I could have a beer with them" Who gives a f**k?.
Is Stern flawed?, hell yes! is he a bastard? hell yes!. But most of the bands or comedians(and friends and relatives) that I like are the same way.
There have been mornings in the early and mid 90's(and late 80's) when I had to be at work (or class)( usually a horrible job ) at 6, but as long as I had my walkman, I knew that between 6 and 11 there were a bunch of people trying their best to entertain me and make me laugh.Could the Stern show be better?, well yeah, but thats not up to me. The bottom line is that I have 15 years of surreal fun and entertainment to fall back on, so I greatly appreciate the Stern show. How many years do have to fall back on?. If you stopped listening ten years ago, It means you have a different sense of humour, and different things entertain you. It's only radio, so don't take it too seriously.
