ChuckHucklebuck 09-26-2005, 10:12 PM Dunno which is the best.
I will tell you that I have an 'X-Act' and I wish I had waited for the Sportster models to go on sale.
The 'X-Act' works fine, it just feels and looks cheesy and fragile.
Nickd 09-26-2005, 10:30 PM I need one that can be easily moved from vehicle to vehicle, has headphones, can be listened to anywhere (that can see a satellite), easy portable ... and can give me a blow job

(minus the blowjob, but it gives Cleavland Steamers)

Which XACT do you have? I have the XTR7 and it's a piece of shit. I think it just took a shit on me because the SIRIUS screen stays on shows nothing else..

I also have the Sanyo PNP... Pretty good player.

Can it play through a vehicle's speakers or does it just have the headphones.
I work in a company where we drive a different truck almost daily but want my buddies in the truck to beable to listen too ... so can I set it up easily or would it just be hassle

Most of the home/office units have FM modulators in them so you can take them in the car too...
Nickd 09-26-2005, 10:42 PM Sounds perfect can't wait
Pussah 09-27-2005, 11:37 AM i need one that can transfer from home, to car to office. I am near a window but trees are nearby
dmaki 09-27-2005, 04:34 PM I have the XACT model, but after a few months the screen crapped out on me. It's portable and XACT has said they will replace for me. It's decent, but I'm sure in the course of 12 months many other units have come out that are superior.
ChronoSkooma17 09-27-2005, 08:27 PM Just recently, the Starmate Replay was released. It's the first 3rd generation reciever to be released by Sirius.
- Compact Size
- New Vivid Display
- Song Seek by Artist or Song
- FM Transmitter featuring FM-frequency presets
- Pause/Replay Feature

Expect the 3G recievers to compete with the current XM recievers. Sirius had to play a little catch up but they're getting on track now. Hopefully a Live reciever is in the works. The Starmate Replay is probably the best Sirius reciever you can buy right now, no boombox compatibility.....yet.

E, Thats the exact x-act player I have. It's a fracking dog. It gets so hot that the LED display goes white and I cant see what's on, or what channel I'm on. Also, the channel selector switch on the face hasn't worked since day 1.
It's funny, I was going to buy that Sanyo one, too. But it was $30 more than the x-act at the time. Damn, I should have waited...they're all dirt cheap now.
Hey Everyone! Avoid That X-Act!
SgtSnatch 10-19-2005, 03:49 PM I have the starmate, no problems YET

theglove 10-20-2005, 07:28 AM I have the Sportster Reply and would definately recommend it. I thought about getting the S50 when it comes out, but I'm going to wait for one that receives live feed.
TSS Taylor 10-20-2005, 07:41 AM I would say choose between The Sirius Starmate Replay and The Sirius Sportster Replay. They are very similar but the Sportster Replay has more of a convenience in moving it from place to place in the simple docking stations and also it allows for a Boombox. The Starmate Replay is perfect if you only use it in your car or your home and don't move it between the two, often. Both have the great Replay features 44 minutes of pause and rewinding what you heard. But the Starmate Replay is the only one at this point can not only allows for seek for a specific song but also for a specific artist. For exable let's say Fall Out Boy's I'm Going Down song is on, you simply press Memo(memory) and it will ask you whether you'd like to seek the artist or the song. And the next time that artist or song is on ANY of the Sirius channels it will beep and remind you.

Why is the Sportster better for taking in and out on the car and using in the house? thats probably what Im gonna do.
Is it a plug and play unit and the Starmate has multiple wires/cables to plug in and out eah time?
DScum420 10-24-2005, 05:25 AM I have the Sportster Replay SP-TK2 and it is IMO excellent.
Buy the kit off of Sirius and go buy a used boombox off Ebay for $30 bucks or less. For about $150.00 you get an excellent system.
Installation in a vehicle takes about 15 minutes, the only issue I encountered was mounting the suction cup as it limited my sight through my windshield. Some plexiglass mounted to the dash with double sided tape resolved the issue.

Is this Sportster unit a plug and play unit, no wires to plug/unplud everytime?
Any pics of your mounting solution?

Yes it comes with a dock you mount and run wires into. You run your antenna in through a window, a lighter adapter and an FM Modulater. All you need to do is remove the unit itself when switching between vehicles and your boombox/stereo docking unit.
I have two boombox's (one for work, one for home) so I just pop it out from my house, put in my car dock, pop it out and put it in my work boombox.
I don't have any images of my solution but all I did was clean the dash with alcohol to remove the Armor-All, cut about a 6" x 6" piece of plexi-glass with my roto-tool and stuck double-sided tape to the bottom and used the suction cup mounting on the dock. Works perfect and doesn't inhibit my line of sight.

Very cool! thanks!
Anything you particularly like/don't like about it?
It doesn have the Artist/Song alert feature does it?

My only main issue with it is the Replay feature. It only records the station you're listening to. Say I listen to Faction for 30 minutes and bump it to another station it begins the recording process over, so any song I wanted a playback on from Faction is now gone.
The other issue is the buttons are small and you often find yourself hitting the wrong button or that damn jump button in the middle.
And I prefer the blue backlight to the ugly orange the old Sporter's have.
It does offer the artist alert feature. You can store up to 20 and as long as the S-Seek is set to on it will alert you. Although I have noticed it alerting occaisonally in the middle of a song instead of the beginning.

You can download the manual and look at all the features.
DScum420 10-24-2005, 01:13 PM Let me clarify the S-Seek/Memory function.
It can store 20 songs, it does not allow you to store or search by only artist or only song title like other units.
jigzaw 10-29-2005, 08:15 PM Wondering: what's the difference between and "FM Modulator" and "FM Transmitter". I think I know what the transmittor is, but is it different from a modulator?
I'm shopping around now before taking the plunge, which is why I'm asking.
