They probably want it that way so people will go out and buy the radios. Just giving out samples for now.

dont know about that, the stuff that does play isnt choppy.....someone else said it was maybe because of different bitrates?

when i had an internet stream (the beginnings of ROC RADIO) playing out of my kitchen, hehehe, i had issues with the streaming software reliably converting different bit rates and stereo/mono. Audio Stream systems (software and or the stream server) don't like it at all.

The second audio broadcast will be better because its a recording that is taken from the live signal at the studio. When they play that one it will have a global bit rate and will either be stereo or mono the whole time.

And I thought there would be gods of engineering working there at sirus. Poke, poke...... ehheehhe

I guess being an internet radio engineer gives you experience on things even the big boys don't know...

after recording a chunk here just now, i noticed all the clips we are hearing are all stereo. So its has to be a conflict of the strereo and mono clips. If the software is set for stereo it will try to make mono stereo. When it does this the two channels cancel each other out. Its just one of the oddities of internet radio broadcasting software.

I wonder what software they are using at Sirius...

The online player is some sorta java app.

Its java with windows media 9 embeded. If you look on the side you will see a yellow thing with moving arrows with a 9 on it. Thats windows media 9.

Hmmm I don't have Windows Media on this machine and I can still listen... Interesting to say the least.

I'll have to do a packet grab here in a bit and see what I can find out about it.

thats why they call it embeded, you don't need it on your machine, its in the java ap.

Reading about it now on M$'s site. Interesting stuff, I just wish it wasn't Windows Media. Both their video and audio codecs have much to be desired.

I wonder if there is anything open sourced that can compare to this.
