I sent an e mail to cablevision here's the response, judge for yourself

Dear valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the availability of carrying "howard stern on demand" on our cable system. I understand and would be happy to help you.

Suggestions from our customers are important in helping us determine which services to add to our current programming lineup. Although we would like to add every service that is developed, due to a limited number of channels available, we cannot always accommodate every request. We do our best, however, to provide those services that have the widest overall appeal to the customers we serve.

While we do make every attempt to accommodate programming requests to satisfy customers' preferences, factors such as technical limitations, contractual obligations with programmers and federal government regulations may limit our ability to honor each request that we receive.

While "howard stern" may not be added at this time, there is a possibility it may be added in the future. I am responsible for sending a tally of all program requests to our programming Department to let them know what customers in your area want added to their line up. I will be sure to include your request for "howard stern". As always, we will keep you informed of any new programming offerings as they become available.

Again, thank you for contacting us to express your programming interests. We always appreciate receiving comments and suggestions from our customers. If you have any other questions please email us or contact your local Customer Service department for further assistance. Have a pleasant day.

Thank you for choosing Cablevision.

That's a form letter. You just gotta keep hounding them. Where there is money to be made, they will chase it.

Cablevision is just the absolute worst cable company in America. They're raising rates AGAIN next month, 2.3%. I guess they need to cover the costs of their media blitz to shoot down the west side stadium to protect their monopoly.

Not really. They don't give a fuck because they're the only game in town for cable. We still don't have the goddamn FX channel in Bklyn. The fucking FX channel.

It's the YES channel fiasco all over again.

Cablevision doesn't care how many customers complain, they just don't give a shit.

Direct TV doesn't currently have the technology for OnDemand. Unfortunately, until they go to the new MPEG-4 technology (late 2006) you're in the same fucked boat as Cablevision.

Assholes. Cablevision has always had a weird thing with Howard programing going back to when they used to share E! with a local station and never aired Stern's show.

they don't have FX in the Bronx either - buddies of mine that live up there can't watch Rescue Me and they're not happy...cablevision has always sucked ass, I remember back in the 80's we had the MSG network absolutely free, then one day in the early 90's after they bought the knicks, rangers etc it was magically shut off and became a premium service...the dolan's only exist to grease their already overloaded pockets and they couldn't give two shits about their customers, so unless they somehow get it into their peabrains that stern on demand will be profitable, dont expect much

For a local cable company that would be a fucking grease spot on the map if it was not for the $$ of the richest TV viewing area in the world..... If Cablevision was in Kansas it would just be another "Bob's cable"....

Point being, they have taken SO MUCH $$ from the NYC, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey consumers they could afford to buy Billion Dollar sports teams and stadiums, but they wont add channels such as YES, FX, Howard On Demand, etc... AND they have the BALLS to let thier own customers suffer (and keep charging them WITH yearly increases) while they have ego-driven pissing matches with other billionaires (ala Stienbrenner.....ala Time Warner, etc...) We get fucked because of thier monopoly....

What a bunch of filthy, greedy, theives.....

My 2 cents....

Cablevision will eventually carry Stern. Long Island has tens of thousands of thousands of thousands of thousand fans. It's just a matter of when. NYC always gets everything first. Saying it wont happen where Stern has lived all his life is like someone from Vermont not being able to buy maple syrup.

I few weeks ago I called In Demand and spoke to a nice guy who told me that Cablevision is difficult to get commitment. He told me to call them and request the channel. When I asked who I should contact at Cablevision he said just called customer service. Now everyone knows that when you call the general number you get the runaround and when you do get a rep they don't really care about your programming needs. I was then assured by Joey Boots that Cablevision would carrying In Demand in January. Now I read the email that started this thread. We need to get names, addresses and email of those who make the decisions at Cablevision. I am not comfortable having my programming request trickle down through whoever answers the general telephone number at Cablevision. Let's get organized. We need to do this in mass. Anyone have any names at Cablevision? I'll start researching now.

Here's a response I got a few days ago from the local Time Warner cable, I live just east of Columbus, OH:

Good Morning,

My name is Anne Highland and I am a supervisor in the Sales Department, here in the Columbus Division. You recently inquired about the above mentioned service [howard stern on demand]and your email was directed to our Western Division. This division currently offers this service. Columbus has not been able
to launch the channel due to a billing system change over that will not be completed till the end of February. At that time, we will be providing this channel. I apologize for the inforrect information that was forwarded to you. We are offering a special on our digital service for just $47.95 monthly for 12 months. In most cases, we can bundle your internet service, saving you more money. To find out how, call us at (614) 481-5320. Thank you.

great stuff - hopefully theyll give us what we want (and are willing to pay for!) pretty soon

unfortunately cablevision has a history of doing things in sections...internet service for example wasn't available out here in suffolk county for a long time after nassau & queens had it, so it may take some time but hopefully they'll get the message if we keep on pushing the issue
