Stern Fan Network Posting Guidelines

First, let me say that the site is very laid back and normally almost anything goes. Problem is there are alot of haters out there that are being drawn to the site right now who would love to see Howard and SFN die. We need to keep the shit heads in line while letting the fans enjoy the site and it's a tough line to walk. We're getting alot of repeat annoying crap from the new members. Alot of it is very negative and it needs to stop ASAP. This isn't a place to bitch about the show or Sirius, it's a fan site. It's for the fans and it's about enjoying the show. I don't want to hear your speech about freedom and censorship letting me know how you should be able to say anything you want just like Howard. Let me set you straight now. You aren't Howard and this isn't your stage. If anyone around here is Howard, it's me and if you annoy me, I'll hang up on you. This is how we run the site and it's one of the reasons it's gotten so big. If you do not like it, there are lots of other websites out there. We have a ton of great members and I hope you become one of them.

Ignoring these warnings will get you booted from the site. I'll sum them up for ya. Don't post anything that will cause problems for the site, our advertisers, the show, or the people involved with them. Obvious flames where the intention of the post is to irritate and start problems will be removed and the member warned/banned based on the severity of the post from my point of view.

This list is not a set of rules for you to quote and point fingers at other members who you feel are breaking the law. It is not something that you can study and look for legal loopholes defending why you shouldn't be in trouble. It's just a list of things that will piss me off. If you don't want to get banned, I'd pay attention.

1. Do not ever argue with the staff. Do not bitch about the 30/30/30 Rule. Do not debate the SFN policies and whether or not you technically broke the rules. Do not dispute the Staff's decisions. We do not want to explain why every single administrative move was made. Just accept it was for the good of the site. If your post was deleted it's for a very good reason so don't post it again. Don't make a new thread bitching about how it was deleted or about how the mod is on a power trip.

Here is information about the 30 day probationary period that all new members must go through. Once you make it through your 30 days, the posting restrictions will be lifted and you'll have access to the member only forums.

2. Do not harass the VIPs. They have custom titles under their usernames identifying them. Using the excuse that you don't consider that person a VIP doesn't hold any merit. If you know their name because of the show, they're a VIP. You can discuss them and play with them but don't fuck with them. If you make them uncomfortable, you'll be the one who's booted.

5. We don't care about who you think sucks. I'm tired of thread after thread of "so & so sucks, get him off the show". If you have real comments about something that happened on the show thats fine but so many of you just seem to be loving the hate. You are not allowed to harass the VIPs or the Staff so get your angry ass out of here. If you must vent, post it in the post it in the "Who Gives a Shit" forum.

6. Don't bother telling us your bullshit about how your shock jock is better than Howard. Go tell it to your retard friends because we aren't buying it. We don't care to debate it. We were at the rally on Dec 16th and the numbers don't lie. It's a dead issue. Accept it now, your guy sucks ass. It's not that we can't take your "evidence", it's just who the hell cares about you & your shock jock. Again, if you must vent, post it in the "Who gives a Shit" forum.

7. "Howard Read this!!!" I know we are all excited and sure it would be great for him to read your message, but try to refrain from making the site all about trying to get his attention. It's one of the things that made his official board hard to read. If you want his attention, be a funny creative poster and start contributing. The only sure way to get him a message is email him at SternShow@HowardStern.com

8. Don't bring some ancient thread back from the dead unless you have a really really good reason. Posting "she's hot" in a 1 year old thread will cause the other members to become angry. Don't do it. Look at the old shit, but don't reply in those old threads.

9. Watch what you post and where you post it. There are several forums here and we have them for a reason. Take it upon yourself to post in the appropriate forum. This is mainly to keep things neat but, adult material and file sharing are two that you MUST post in the appropriate forum. All nudes or other not safe for work material belongs in our Adult Forum. All file sharing posts or requests belong in the File Sharing Forum. Do not post an entire show. We only share clips.

10. Don't scare away the chicks.

11. No Soliciting. I can not let every tom dick and harry come onto SFN and beg for money. No more buy me boobs, help pay my bills, send me money posts from people we don't know. Don't try to sell your crap or promote your website. Don't even post affiliate links. Basically, don't try to make money off of SFN or scam our members. Nobody should be soliciting for anything what so ever without permission from Mutt. If you have some legitimate thing you need promoted, run it by me first.

I'd love to see a Howard Stern cell phone plan that came with H100 & H101 but streaming radio over a cell phone is a new technoligy and nobody is ready to try and stream a show as large as the Stern Show over it.


Q. Can I get Howard Stern On Demand in my town?

A. You can only get it on digital cable. Visit HSOD's official site and enter your zip code to see if you can get it. HSOD is being added to new systems regularly, but it's really up to the individual cable companies. You can not get it on any Satellite TV. It's not an option with today's technology.


Q. Why is there censorship on Howard TV?

A. It's not censored so stop being stupid. Howard TV is not a porn channel. It's th E! show without bleeps or bars. Read about it here.

Why not make a section for rants? Some of this stuff you just can't stop. But, you can control it by keeping it in one place.

This should be a member agreement when becoming a member(also include the 30/30/30 rules in it). Better yet make prospective members have to wait 5 or ten minutes before they can check 'agree' so maybe they'll actually read it while waiting. I wouldn't even be opposed to making every member have to do this once just to get the point accross.

Remember the last week of Stern shows where everyone was having fun in one big show thread, and then we had the few who just HAD to post a seperate topic about something minor that we were all talking about in the big thread? :rolleyes: The big threads were a lot of fun that last week.

It's interesting to see the "rule Nazis" come out whenever this kind of thing comes up. The problem with getting into contracts and too many rules is that managing the site becomes a big head ache for the site. The last thing Mutt and staff need is to get into lengthy debates with would-be "lawyers" who want to argue whether their offense(s) are in violation of any specific rule.

Some stuff just has to be covered by "Don't post stuff that hurts SFN, including making the staff's jobs harder." I.e., use common sense -- and those who don't pay the penalty. That would include bashing Sirius (which hurts the SFN/Sirius/Howard relationship) or posting personal info or posting naked pix or continuing to make duplicative threads or start Hate threads in the wrong forum (all of which create what should be unnecessary work for the mods).

ive been coming by here for years but as a full memeber im a n00b, but my 2 cents is the 30/30/30 is GREAT and on top of that , full members shouldnt be able to START threads for 60 days at least

You're both not considering the effect of the size of this site and how tedious -- if not impracticable -- it is to expect someone to read a 100's of posts older thread in order to confirm whether it's the "right" thread to post about some new twist in whatever the story is.

By that I mean, since March 5, 2001, there have been "Bring Jack back" threads; since October 2001, there have been "Dump Artie" and "Who's better" threads. It's not realistic to expect someone to search back months at a time to find and resurrect the most recent thread on the topic.

Also, resurrecting old threads seems to be discouraged around here, so you have that problem too.

I know that the issue is multiple threads all started on the same new topic, e.g., "Howard's live!" or "[Something from] Today's Show." It's not realistic to expect no one to duplicate a thread topic and with the growing size of this site, it's inevitable. It's a great rule what with the goings on in the workplace. Hope people heed the intent of the rule as it's for their own good. I can't believe I can't even get SFN at work, nor howardstern.com -- not even Marksfriggin.com. They subscribe to some service that blocks out inappropriate stuff (whatever the heck that means), and whenever I try to log on, I just get a big red screen saying something to the effect that "This site isn't available" or something. It's by Sonic--something or other. Pretty disappointing. I just returned to my old job (law office) and it's something relatively new apparently. With such a busy desk, don't have the luxury of net surfing; however, I'm in the office early and sometimes stay at my computer during lunch hour to do personal stuff -- so, have to wait until I get home to find out what's going on with SFN.

We're getting alot of repeat annoying crap from the new members. Alot of it is very negative and it needs to stop ASAP. This isn't a place to bitch about the show or Sirius, it's a fan site. It's for the fans and it's about enjoying the show.

Ignoring these warnings will get you booted from the site. I'll sum them up for ya. Don't post anything that will cause problems for the site, the show, or the people involved with them.

1. Do not ever argue with the staff. Do not bitch about the 30/30/30 Rule. Do not debate the SFN policies and whether or not you technically broke the rules. Do not dispute the Staff's decisions. We do not want to explain why every single administrative move was made. Just accept it was for the good of the site. If your post was deleted it's for a very good reason so don't post it again. Don't make a new thread bitching about how it was deleted or about how the mod is on a power trip.

2. Do not harass the VIPs. Stern Show Staff, Sirius Staff, HSOD Staff, Wack Packers, comedians, Show Regulars, Regular Callers, etc are all VIPs. They have custom titles under their usernames identifying them. Using the excuse that you don't consider that person a VIP doesn't hold any merit. If you know their name because of the show, they're a VIP. Play with them, but don't fuck with them. If you make them uncomfortable, you'll be the one who's booted.

3. Leave the real world out of it. don't dig into their private lives or their families. I don't care if you read an article about so & so's daughter, just drop it. If you must discuss this, go do it elsewhere.

7. "Howard Read this!!!" I know we are all excited and sure it would be great for him to read your message, but try to refrain from making the site all about trying to get his attention. It's one of the things that made his official board hard to read. If you want his attention, be a funny creative poster and start contributing.

I'm doing my part to stop them. we've been doing ti since before it hit the news. the fact that they made enough noise that papers picked it up does not change my original feeling about it. also people were trying to post the video and pics. I think Howard has been coming here for some time now and this is because we do talk openly about The Show, SFN has worked with these current rules in place precisely because trolls aren't allowed to bury good threads with spamming shit and good debates about Howard's show occur because trolls can't spam the threads with the 10,000 "Howard is a jew, Robin is a nigg*r" lame postings that derail threads and lead to zero interesting content.

Go check out the other Stern forums (e.g. The Underground) where they are so friggin' bold allowing all manner of idiocy to run rampant. It becomes a total bore, try them out if you don't believe me. The rules are in place to make the board more interesting and entertaining, anyone who doesn't get that is an idiot.

What I am seeing on the forum now are lots of negative posts towards anyone who expresses any kind of "less than glowing" review. Example, the guy who posted about the quality of Sirius radios. The responses ranged from "ban him" to "he's an O&A attack drone". Now I disagree with the way he made his point and I have no clue if hes an O&A creep but it's just an example, albeit perhaps a poor one. All over the forum now people are being attacked who might love the show but dislike a part of it. That's exactly the kind of thing Howard comes in here to read. He wants honest reviews. I'm not saying people have a right to trash for the sake of trashing nor am I saying any of the things Mutt laid out are wrong. I just worry about the "indirect atmosphere of censorship" that seems to be growing. Yes a lot of O&A creeps are coming in and attacking. They are doing so because Howard moving to Sirius has made thier shows future at XM very, very uncertain. They only have as much power as we are willing to give them though. I have a question. What does "Account on Hold" status mean? I am wondering because my other account was put "on hold". First, I would like to apologize if I did something to merit that...but I can't think of what that may have been.

I was sooooo close to becoming a member....28 posts and like 32 days. I promise that I didn't post anything negative about the show or this website. I was even a supporter once a few years ago....but had to format my computer and lost the SFN link. I just recently found it again.

I apologize for making this user account, but I just did it because I wanted to make sure it was just my account and not the site. When I login to my account, it shows there are NO posts in 100 days.

Hey Mutt just wanted to say tnx for the "Sirius in the office" tip! I get to listen to Stern/Sirius on my headphones! who needs streaming? I dont have to stay stuck to my desk or worry about anyone over hearing anything & it works on 2 floors.
It makes the days fly by,& now that I get my stern fix during the day,I can watch TV again :D thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

About the salary thing, I always wondered if the $100 mil was just for Howard, and I suspected it was his budget for the whole staff, but I wasn't sure. Is that confirmed? Does it include Robin, Artie and Fred too? If this is none of my f-ing business I'm sure you'll tell me, and that's all good.

The truth is that even if it was all for Howard I'd be happy for the guy...he deserves what in the long run will just be a fraction of the money he will have brought to Sirius.

p.s. Mutt, I offer my heartfelt thanks for all the work you put into this site. It's a virtual clubhouse for the howard stern kids. :beer:

I'm new here, I love Howard, I love Sirius and I love all that Howard has done to entertain all of us over the years. I'm amazed at all that Sirius has to offer and if Howard left tomorrow I would still keep my Sirius subscription, But I would say that I listen to either H100 or H101 at least 90% of the time. I now listen to the radio at times that I would normally be watching t.v.

By Howard no longer being on testicular radio, I now feel like I'm part of an exclusive club...I feel like I got something special that alot of other people don't have and by coming here I feel like I got others that I can talk to about the unique experience that people without Sirius are not a part of.

I'm glad that Mutt has set up these guidelines...But, I'm upset that there was a need for him to do so.

I love H100 and H101 and I'm very appreciative to Howard, Gary, Fred, Artie, Robin and everyone else (including Ralph) for all the years of entertainment. I feel like I owe all of them.

And regarding the 'haters' -I really don't understand how anyone can hear Howard and not like him...and I really don't understand why anyone who doesn't like him would go to his fan website. So, the chat line that was dropped was the only chat line. I had thought that I would see the real chat line when I became a member. Since anyone could log in as anyone, no wonder you had to drop its. I will be glad to see it come back and when you have to log in with your correct SFN name.
