View Full Version : What will it take for USA to get the Olympic Hoops Gold back?

I just read the Allen Iversen wants to play for Team USA. Jerry Colangelo wants Shac on the team but we had our Pros last time and we still lost.

Now that the rest of the world has caught up in hoops what do we need to do to get back on top?

For one thing we need some people who can hit the THREE!

Would Kobe be an asset or would his selfish play make things worse?

The way the U.S.A can reclaim the gold is really quite simple. You CAN still use pros and I feel you should but not the whole 12 man roster.

A team of 12 superstars is no good. You have to have about 6 players on the team from college or the NBDL so that you have "role" players who won't bitch and be upset not being the main man.

I love Iverson he's my favorite player in the league but I wouldn't put him on the olympic team next time.

1. Lebron best player and very unselfish

2.Shaq if he wants to play even in limited minutes still great

3. Wade unselfish and great

4. Ray Allen or another great three point shooter

5. NO Marbury!!!!!!!

These are a few of my picks off of the top of my head. Three point shooting really hurt us last time have to have some "specialists".

p.s. To answer your question I would rather have T-Mac than Kobe. Kobe is hated by all of the other players and this would only hurt the team.

That's the problem all the great players want nothing to do with the Olympics.

C-Shaq
F-Garnett
F-James
G-Kidd
G-Wadd

Kobe has mentioned he wants to play and now Shaq has said he wants to play. Can they co-exist? Even thoght he's older, I'd choose Shaq because he's less selfish.

for you guys that keep mentioning Kidd remember he will be around 38 years old in the next olympics. Back up maybe but we need a starting point gaurd.

this guy is dead on. start with Lebron, not only the most athletic player in the league but the most talented overall and unselfish. if you had him and shaq then the rest of the roster really doesnt matter. get a few quality jump shooters and the gold is assured.

If you think the world has caught up with the US, you don't watch much bball. We had a shitty team and Brown did an embarrassing job coaching.

G-Billups/Kidd/Iverson
G-Lebron/DWade/Allen/Redd
F-Marion/Korver (well-suited for international ball)/Artest
F-Garnett/Duncan
C-Shaq/Camby/Ben Wallace

With any of those combos, we have elite offense (perimeter and paint) and the best defensive lineups in the world. Keep Marbury, TMac, and Vince away from the team for cohesiveness reasons. Make Phil the coach---give us the gold now.

Team oriented players will easily do it. Less selfish gangsta-nigga types. So if you ever had a cornrow you is out. ;)

Shaq and Duncan are getting waaay to injury prone and are old and getting soft. You dont want a PG like Iverson in the olympics either, too much of a scoring PG. Im making a stretch by adding Davis but he is a really good set-up guy and can score in a heart beat, he also has sensational defense.
PG - Steve Nash/ Baron Davis/
SG - Ray Allen/ Kobe Bryant/ Lebron James
SF - Shawn Marion/ Kevin Garnett/ Ron Artest
PF - Elton Brand/ Amare Stoudamire/
C - Ben Wallace/ Jermaine O'neal

They definitely need a pass first point guard, keep Marbury as far from the team as possible. People like Kidd, and an up and comer like Chris Paul would make a huge difference. They need some shooters too, guys like Michael Redd and Paul Pierce and above all keep larry brown away from the team, he has no tolerance for young players and he burried Wade and La Bron last time around.

How can you say Baron Davis is a better defender than Human toilet Billups (best PG in the NBA, currently)? Steve Nash probably won't be suiting up for a foreign country, so he's off the squad, too.

And have you ever seen Iverson play with good people in the all star game and otherwise? He's not as selfish as most make him out to be. Just sit him and bring in Kidd, Billups, or Dwade if he gets out of control.

I think Korver would be an awesome player on the team, I saw him play tonight on ESPN, he was awesome. Iverson would be a great part of the team as well, he is not as selfish as many consider him to be. I'm thinking maybe someone like Smush Parker maybe a good backup PG as he is extremely unselfish and is not very old, meaning he will still be young in 2 1/2 years. I think that no matter what team we have it won't be a cakewalk to win the gold, cakewalk for the bronze I think but anything requiring a championship game performance is goiing to be difficult becasue teams will always show up and try to play better agains the US in basketball since they are considered teh best (and seaminlgy are) in basketball.

You guys are forgetting that the olympics is a few years away and players like A.I. (my favorite player) are going to be a step slower and past there prime at this time.

IHateReferees

Yes obviously they will, however the team is requiring a three year commitment starting this year for the 2008 OLympic team which means we may need AI. We have absolutely no use for a player like Payton or Shaq since they are too old but I think AI is the perfect age, he may be a little too old but he can be a leader.
