I have had a problem with the home unit's antenna. It is of course not always aligned with the sat and the terrestrial is non-existent in my area. But it is fairly new technology and I am willing to be an early user.

I have 3 sportster replays and a boom box, Have not had any problems with any of it so far.. So lets ask a few questions.

I don't see what the problem is - I've been a subscriber for over a year and love my JVC PnP unit. My first AudioVox PnP 2.0 died unexpectedly and Sirius was great about getting me a free replacement when AudioVox failed to backup their equipment.

You can't expect it to be like FM radio folks - it's satellite and there are certain limitations. Learn what they are and how to work with them! Get the damn home antenna on your roof and you'll be fine.

have the replay..easy set up in both the house and in the car...

The equipment was so easy to install that I insisted that there must be something else. I made it more difficult than it was and that was the only pain in the ass I had. I was sure that I had to hook it up to my stereo somehow, but my stereo had no where to hook it up. I could not believe that I only had to plug it in, hook it up to an antenna and that was it. Even with my brain fart, it only took me 5 minutes to install. I've had no problem in my house or in my car. Not bad for a half-wit

I've had a sportster for over a year completely problem free and picked up a starmate replay at Christmas, really nice unit with some nice features. Maybe your expectations are just a bit to high, it is a new technology after all so there will be constant improvement. I understand where your coming from though, my grandfather bitched about TV being black and white and alway's wanted to know when the widescreen was coming out, guess he was just a visionary!

it can definatly be a challenge to get constant indoor reception with sirius if you dont live near a repeater or have access to your roof. I live in chicago so thankfully I get full repeater reception because the best I ever get from the sats. is 3 bars and I dont have access to the roof.

Its wrong to blame the equipment though because it has nothing to do with getting the signal. Its just going to be that way until they start putting up more repeaters or use a geostationary sattelite at the equator like does.

I think we'll look back at the equipment we have now in a couple of years and all agree it's pretty bad. But it's all we have right now and it works reasonably well. The problem is transportability (being able to listen at home, car, office with good reception without having to buy multiple units). Yes, I know of the S50 but it's not really all that affordable at this point.

My biggest concern is that this satellite technology may never get that great. I mean, cell phones suck! Talking cell to cell you still have delay and often have to yell to be heard, and there are wide areas where my cell phone gets no service at all. Cell phones have been around for years and are a totally established form of communication worldwide, yet the services still pretty much suck. Is this going to be the same with satellite radio?

Well it's long been known that Sirius's equipment is seriously behind xm's and it's not that good. From the S50 to the replay features, things they could of EASILY done to make them outstanding pieces of gear fell short and have disappointed.

Give it time, the next generation of radios will do what people have always wanted them to do and will proform much better.

I have been using my antenna sitting on my desk on the 2nd floor and get 3 bars but loose signal once in a while. In honor of tomorrows show I just put the antenna in my attic and ran the wire down to my desk. Now I get 6-9 bars signal and even 3 terrestrial that I hadn't seen before. If you cant get on your roof try your attic. Even at it's worst Sirius is better than the crappy AM station he was on in Houston. I know better equipment like the S50 with even more features will be out soon, I'm good witha home / car kit until then.

I wont always be able to listen live so I setup my computer to record the show every day and create a cd and mp3 archive. If I lived in NY and didn't have a portable I'd still be set.

My Starmate works fine. I don't understand what the problem is. Maybe you just got a bad radio. I'm sure they'll come up with some better stuff in the future. They'll be racking in the cash from all the new subscriptions this year.

I love Sirius and never turn the radio off. There are a few problems though.

The S50 frequently feezes up when I'm recording which necessitates removing the battery and then the recording is lost. Adios "History of Stern."

The S50 doesn't come with a power cord that plugs into the wall. They surprise you with the fact that you have to shell out $100 for a home unit. I bought an adoptor for the cigarette lighter thing for $30 and I plug my computer speakers into the headphone jack so I managed to save 70 bucks

I have had no problems at all with my "sporster" in my car or at home with the boombox. Signal is always clear. The boombox could use a bit more volume, and an equalizer, but what can I ask for 100 bucks.... It fills my livingroom with music, but not my whole Apt... I'm not complaining.... Long live Sirius....

the s50 is a piece of crap, but oh well, it's the first try. mine is already broken after a week, but crutchfield is shipping me a new one and will let me keep the old one until i get the replacement. great customer service.

i also bought a "mcally fm modulator" and it works all through my house (and my neighborhood). i can pick up the signal on my walkman, my shower radio, etc. looking forward to tomorrow morning

From what I understand, the MyFi has more than a 40% return rate. Despite the claims of hardcore Stern bashers who want you to believe it can cure cancer, it's actually very very far from being a trouble free device. Sure, Sirius sat/hardware tech is a little behind, BUT portable-sat tech (as a whole) still has a long way to go. . .

In any case, as I'm sure you'd agree, watching a Jimi Hendrix concert (i.e. Howard & the Sirius line-up) from the 50th row is still a hell of a lot more fun/value than watching a Ricky Martin concert (i.e. O & A - XM) from the 30th row :)

Seriously, I love my Sportster Boombox. Wrap up the cord, pop in some batteries, and it's good to go anywhere.

I live on the second floor of an apartment building, with a large office building next door across the alley. I have to stick the antena in the living room window always facing northeast. I hardly ever lose a signal and I have maybe 40 feet of sky to get a signal.

The Sportster Boombox is a little dynamo. Killer sound, great reception, and multiple uses. Can't beat that.

I'm sure radios sucked when they first came out. This technology is new. Who knows, when there are 20 million sirius listeners, they'll probably have unbelievable systems.

I wish they would choose to stream on the net or allow dish to carry the show.

Either way would be tons better than dishing out extra caishe for equipment that will be obsolete in 6 months.

Oh well, guess ill be left to download clips until they get their act together.

Doesn't suck for me - maybe it is the person using it!! You gotta fuck around with the antenna - BEST is outside.

The radios themselves don't suck. What sucks is the sound quality (nothing is digital CD quality), the difficulty in getting signal, and the lack of online entertainment.

For what it's worth though, the original content is MUCH better than XM. The sound quality is about the same as XM (limitation of satellite technology?). The lack of online content is far behind XM, but it appears that Sirius will be making up for this in the near future (Q1 2006 according to others' postings).

Just get a Starmate replay. Perfect
