I am plugged into computer speakers and my Starmate Replay just became scrambled. I powered off and powered back on and it was fine for a while, but then it happened again.

WHAT IN THE HELL?

I don't have a home unit yet... :(

It shouldn't have anything to do with the computer set up... Are you sure the reception isn't doing that?

Mine sounded all screwed up when I first plugged into into the wrong input of my computer, but then I changed it over the Line in..which is what I meant to plug it into and I haven't had any problems. I have it run to both my home theatre and computer.

Does it happen only when your connected to the computer speakers?

Also, what does it sound like when it's scrambled?

How is your signal, could you be getting interference from something?

It happened in my car, but I was assuming that was FM Transmitter problems because I was having a lot of interference.

Now I have the speakers plugged directly into the Audio jack on my Starmate Replay.

It sounds like everything becomes scrambled, sort of like if you had a tape player eating your tape but the music was still playing.

If you have a higher end soundcard make sure yoru not plugged into a digital in/out and check your soundcard settings, sometimes the line inputs can be switched to digital which would create a lot of weird noise like you describe

it seems likes its a problem with your unit if you had the same from in your car.

It sounds to me like your unit is defective if it happened in both the car and at home....these units get pretty hot and can degrade as they heat up if there's a defect in the unit. Sometimes computer speakers need an eq if there isn't adjustable treble and base to mimimize artifacts but it seems to me from what you're saying that it's your unit.

Jeez, an mp3 of the phenomenon would help a bunch here.

I'm pretty sure it is this fucking unit which really pisses me off. They have no more Starmates at Best Buy, now they have tons of Sportster Replays and I just got the home kit for the Starmate yesterday.

My soundcard has a couple of inputs including Line In (mono) and Microphone (stereo). Also make sure that your XP Sound panel is correctly configured.

It's your receiver that is defective.

Inside my home I only use my Starmate Replay with compuer speakers. I've used it with 3 different sets with no problems whatsoever.

It's not the unit. There's too much memory being used in your computer.
