Thursday Fred said that all of the SFNers should go back to packing boxes on the assembly line. While the Fred Fan Network was discussing it (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94551) TONKA packed one up for him. Enjoy
Speaking of packages, I received my $80 Xact Boombox (http://www.thesiriusstore.com/xact-xs075-boombox-p-300.html) from TheSiriusStore.com (http://www.thesiriusstore.com) yesterday. ( How's that for a segway into a commercial ) ;) When I first picked it up I immediately thought it was going to sound like crap. The thing weighs nothing. I slapped my $40 Streamer GT (http://www.thesiriusstore.com/streamer-wcar-p-277.html) from my work truck in it and tossed the antenna out the window. To my pleasant surprise, the thing sounds great. I'll get alot of use out of this bad boy at the shore.
I got several "Acquiring Signal" interruptions so I came here to SFN and searched for the proper direction to point the antenna. High Pitch told me south west, but just to be safe I figured I better check with the experts. I found a great graphic which explained that it depends where you live. Here in Philly I need to be on the north west side of the building. Since I moved the radio into the kitchen, I haven't had one "Acquiring Signal" break. This inspired me to work on the SFN Sirius Setup FAQ (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92312). In it I've placed answers to the most frequent setup issues we see around here including picking up a signal in your office, antenna placement, setting up the FM Transmitter, recording Sirius, and listening to Howard in Canada. Be sure to check it out. (http://www.sternfannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92312)
Now that I know my home antenna needs to be out back, I'm going to just mount one to the wall and be done with it. I'll be able to leave the radio in my upstairs office and use the FM transmitter to hit the rest of the house & the yard. I found the outdoor antenna for $40. (http://www.thesiriusstore.com/outdoor-home-antenna-p-231.html) I thought about ways to rig a car antenna on a bracket, but this is just nicer.
I called Taylor from The Sirius Store (http://www.thesiriusstore.com) to tell him how well the boombox worked out. We were shooting the shit I mentioned how by brother said everyone is out of Sirius radios and accessories around here. Taylor said that they are already restocked and shipping out radios all day long. I called my brother back and told him to order the $80 Starmate Replay (http://www.thesiriusstore.com/starmate-replay-p-175.html) and the $40 Home Kit (http://www.thesiriusstore.com/starmate-replay-home-sth2-p-211.html). That will take care of the truck and his house. He's out in the field alot so I'm recommending that he get the Wired FM Modulator Relay (http://www.thesiriusstore.com/sirius-wired-modulator-relay-p-118.html). Not only will he get better reception in the truck, but it'll give him an extended FM Transmitter range for when he wants to pick up the show on his Dewalt boombox. It essentially lets the Sirius radio's FM modulator transmit Howard to the boombox across the jobsite using the truck's existing FM radio antenna to send the signal. I picked this radio becaue it's tiny, it's loaded, and Xact is releasing the $100 Power Pod II (http://www.xactcommunication.com/Replay-33/XS088-Sirius-Satellite-Radio-Power-Pod-II-Portable-Battery-Pack-116.html) in March for it. It'll turn the Starmate Replay or Streamer GTR into a true portable walkman. People with good terrestrial repeater strength will be hooked the hell up and be able to hear Howard on the go.
While I had Taylor on the phone I asked him if he knew anything about these Sirius T-Shirts at ShopSirius.com (http://www.shopsirius.com). I thought they were bootlegs when I first saw them posted at SFN, but Taylor says that this guy has permission from Sirius to make and sell them. They aren't Howard shirts, but at least their good looking Sirius shirts.
Hell, that was one hell of a post. I should have just sent out another newsletter
