Additional Information: Terms of Service

INFORMATION THIS SITE GATHERS AND TRACKS

SternFanNetwork.com gathers two types of information about users:

Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions. These are voluntary submissions to receive our electronic newsletters, to participate in our message boards or forums, to email a friend, and from participation in polls and surveys:

Information SternFanNetwork.com gathers through aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our sites. This information allows us to better tailor our content to readers' needs and to help our advertisers and sponsors better understand the demographics of our audience. Because SternFanNetwork.com derives its revenue mainly from sponsorships, advertisement and / or donations, providing such aggregated demographic data is essential to keeping our service free to users. Under no circumstances does SternFanNetwork.com divulge any information about an individual user to a third party.

SternFanNetwork.com Gathers User Information In The Following Processes:

Optional Voluntary Information

We offer the following free services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal information by users:

1. Electronic newsletters (Dispatches)

We will offer a free monthly electronic newsletter to users. SternFanNetwork.com gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily register at SFN. Users may remove themselves from this mailing list by following the link provided in every newsletter that points users to the Close My Account page. Users subscribe to the newsletters at the time of registration.

2. Message boards/forums

Users of the site's Forums must register for this services (free of charge) in order to post messages, although they needn't register to visit the site. During registration the user is required to supply a username, password, email address, and date of birth. User must be 18 or older to register at SFN.

3. "E-mail this to a friend" Service

Our site users can choose to electronically forward a link, page, or documents to someone else by clicking "e-mail this to a friend". The user must provide their email address, as well as that of the recipient. This information is used only in the case of transmission errors and, of course, to let the recipient know who sent the email. The information is not used for any other purpose.

4. Polling

We may offer interactive polls to users so they can easily share their opinions with other users and see what our audience thinks about important issues. Opinions or other responses to polls are aggregated and are not identifiable to any particular user. SternFanNetwork.com may use a system to "tag" users after they have voted, so they can vote only once on a particular question. This tag is not correlated with information about individual users.

5. Surveys

SternFanNetwork.com may occasionally conduct user surveys to better target our content to our audience. We sometimes share the aggregated demographic information in these surveys with our sponsors, advertisers and partners. We never share any of this information about specific individuals with any third party unless it is specifically stated otherwise in the survey.

Children

Nobody under the age of 18 is permitted to register at SFN.

Usage tracking

SternFanNetwork.com tracks user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. SternFanNetwork.com does break down overall usage statistics according to a user's domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user's browser).

SternFanNetwork.com sometimes tracks and catalogs the search terms that users enter in our Search function, but this tracking is never associated with individual users. We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don't like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you.

Cookies

We may place a text file called a "cookie" in the browser files of your computer. The cookie itself does not contain Personal Information although it will enable us to relate your use of this site to information that you have specifically and knowingly provided. But the only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie can't read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. SternFanNetwork.com uses cookies to track user traffic patterns (as described above). Our advertising system delivers a one-time cookie to better track ad impressions and click rates.

USE OF INFORMATION

SternFanNetwork.com uses any information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their experience in our network of sites, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the sites or to better prepare future content based on the interests of our users.

As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in order to send out electronic newsletters and to enable users to participate in polls, surveys, message boards, and forums. We send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule (depending on the newsletter), and occasionally send out special editions when we think subscribers might be particularly interested in something we are doing. SternFanNetwork.com never shares newsletter mailing lists with any third parties, including advertisers, sponsors or partners.

When we use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don't like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms entered in Search function as one of many measures of what interests our users. But we don't track which terms a particular user enters.

SternFanNetwork.com creates aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns for advertisers, sponsors and partners. This allows our advertisers to advertise more effectively, and allows our users to receive advertisements that are pertinent to their needs. Because we don't track the usage patterns of individual users, an advertiser or sponsor will never know that a specific user clicked their ad. We will not disclose any information about any individual user except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.

SHARING OF THE INFORMATION

SternFanNetwork.com uses the above-described information to tailor our content to suit your needs and help our advertisers better understand our audience's demographics. This is essential to keeping our service free. We will not share information about individual users with any third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.

SFN Supporter

Becoming a Supporter is a way for members to help SFN. By donating you help keep our website up and running. SFN runs on 3 dedicated dual core 3.8 Xeon servers with 4GB ram & 2 x 73GB 15k SCSI drives RAID 1 array each. That's alot of hardware and 20 million page views per month is alot of bandwidth. Even with advertising, it is difficult to cover the expenses of run a website of this size. Servers, software, IT support, and bandwidth are expensive not to mention all of the time that it takes to create and update the site. All donations go towards the bills associated with SFN.

Any member who makes a minimum donation of $25 will have their account upgraded to SFN Supporter. Supporter get extra features that would be too costly for us to give to every member. As a supporter you can upload attachments, custom avatars, make photo galleries, blog, use the friends & PM system, and fully customize your profile.

Donations can be made via paypal or credit card in the Donation Manager in your user control panel. Optionally, you can mail a check or money order payable to iMonkey Inc. to PO Box 662 Warminster PA 18974. Be sure to include your screen name in the notes field and email Mutt with a heads up. Expect a 2 week delay with postal mail donations.

NOTE: All contributions to iMonkey are non-refundable. You are not purchasing something. Becoming a supporter does NOT mean you can blow off the site rules or posting guidelines. Violating our TOS will resulting in having your account closed reguardless of whether or not you are a site supporter.

The 30/30/30 Rule
Full members can start threads, view attachments, and join into our discussions. Most forums are open to anyone, but a couple forums like "Adult Talk" are Members Only Forums. These forums are only viewable by full members.

If you want access, first you have to register using a valid email address. Registration is free and easy. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. Your email is never given out to anyone. Everyone starts out as a Jr member. This lets you read & reply in all of the open forums but not the "Member Only Forums". Your SFN status has to be higher than "Jr Member". Full Member, Senior Member, SFN Supporter, SFN VIP, & SFN Staff all have access.

The 30/30/30 rule: To become a Full Member we make you jump through a couple hoops. this lets us know you are really a fan and not just someone tyring to spam the site. To graduate from Jr Member to Full Member you have to have been here for a minimum of 1 month and made a minimum of 30 replies. Even if you make 30 posts in 1 day, you'll still have to wait until the 30 days are up. Your account is limited as a jr member. You can only make replies. You can not start new threads. Also after you make a reply, you won't be able to make another one for 30 minutes. Limiting the jr members this way really cuts down on the SPAM and makes it easy for us to weed out the assholes before they shit up the whole board.

So just sit back and enjoy the site. Once you've made 30 replies and 30 days have past, your account will automatically be upgraded. There is nothing more you need to do. Don't get pissed that you can't post nonstop. Read the site, see how it operates and occasionally make a reply. A month later you'll be one of us.

Making 30 crap replies just to get your post count up will aggravate everyone including the staff. Aggravating the staff, might just get you banned from the site. You have a whole month to make those posts, so why not actually say something about the show. It's all about getting the members to contribute instead of just lurking. The more of you that contribute, the better the entire site is for the group.

Alternately, to graduate straight to SFN Supporter, read this for information. All help is greatly appreciated.

If you are in some way affiliated with the ant of the Howard 100 or 101 show, Sirius, or HSOD have one of the known VIPs let me know who you are and I'll upgrade your account to SFN VIP right away. As a VIP, you'll have full access without restrictions.

NOTE: The Ladies Only forum is completely private and invitation only.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1.) If I donate $25, I can have access to the adult forum now? Is this right?
YES, supporters bypass the 30/30/30 rule but do not think that you must donate. Most people just wait out the month and get in that way.

2.) Will the $5 I've already donated be added to any future contributions? In other words, If I want to be a supporter, then I only need to send $20 today, not $25. Is that right?
YES, becoming a supporter is a way of helping SFN. If you send in a couple buck here and there it all adds up and helps. If the donations add up to $25, your account gets upgraded to supporter. Thanks

3.) How in the world am I suppose to make 30 posts with these restrictions?
You can reply in any of the forums you can see. You just can't start a new thread.

Posting Guidelines
SFN POSTING GUIDELINES

These aren't really rules. they're more like guidelines on how to be a good member of our community. Don't quote them ot point fingers at other members who you feel are breaking the law. It is not something that you can study and look for legal loopholes defending why you shouldn't be in trouble. It's just a list of things that will piss me off. If you don't want to get banned, I'd pay attention.

First, the site is very laid back and normally almost anything goes. Problem is there are alot of haters out there that are being drawn to the site who would love to see Howard and SFN die. We need to keep the shit heads in line while letting the fans enjoy the site and it's a tough line to walk. We're getting alot of repeat annoying crap from the new members. Some of it is very negative and it needs to stop ASAP. This isn't a place to bitch about the show or Sirius, it's a fan site. It's for the fans and it's about enjoying the show. I don't want to hear your speech about freedom and censorship letting me know how you should be able to say anything you want just like Howard. Let me set you straight now. You aren't Howard and this isn't your stage. If anyone around here is Howard, it's me and if you annoy me, I'll hang up on you. This is how we run the site and it's one of the reasons it's gotten so big. If you do not like it, there are lots of other websites out there. We have a ton of great members and I hope you become one of them.

Ignoring these warnings will get you booted from the site. I'll sum them up for ya. Don't post anything that will cause problems for the site, our advertisers, the show, or the people involved with them. Obvious flames where the intention of the post is to irritate or start problems will be removed and the member warned/banned based on the severity of the post from my point of view.

1. Do not ever argue with the staff. Do not bitch about the 30/30/30 Rule. Do not debate the SFN policies and whether or not you technically broke the rules. Do not dispute the Staff's decisions. Do not debate whether some should be a VIP or not. We do not want to explain why every single administrative move was made. Just accept it was for the good of the site. If your post was deleted it's for a very good reason so don't post it again. Don't make a new thread bitching about how it was deleted or about how the mod is on a power trip.

Here is information about the 30 day probationary period that all new members must go through. Once you make it through your 30 days, the posting restrictions will be lifted and you'll have access to the member only forums.

2. Do not harass the VIPs. They have custom titles under their usernames identifying them. Using the excuse that you don't consider that person a VIP doesn't hold any merit. If you know their name because of the show, they're a VIP. You can discuss them and play with them but don't fuck with them. You do not have to like them or agree with them but you can't be mean. If you make them uncomfortable, you'll be the one who's booted. IF they attack you, you are allowed to defend yourself but that doesn't mean you can be a total asshole. Use some sort of restraint even if they are out of control.

This includes but is not limited to the following

  • Stern Show Staff & their significant others
  • Stern Show Regulars / Comedians
  • Stern Show Regular Callers - the guys on the show know by name
  • Stern Show Wackpackers
  • Stern Show Interns
  • Sirius Staff
  • Howard 100 News Team
  • Howard TV Staff
  • Bubba Show Staff
  • Ferrall Show Staff
NOTE: Don't trash BethO. We all know you are just doing it to try and get Howard's attention. It's not fun or funny. You aren't clever. You're just an asshole.

3. Leave the real world out of it. don't dig into their private lives or their families. I don't care if you read an article about so & so's daughter, just drop it. You can all fight online. Hell, sometimes I think that's why Al Gore invented the internet. What you can't do is bring your online board war home. This is all for fun. Don't start calling them at home or at work. People shouldn't be afraid to come here because you might cost them their job.

4. Do not bitch about Howard, Bubba, or Ferrall commercials, vacation, or Fridays off, etc. Stop your bullshit idol threats about not subscribing unless they change. I've posted details concerning all of the current angry messages we see about Howard's salary, vacation, days off, commercials etc. Before you spout off about the $12.95 you spend a month and what Howard should do to make you happy, Please read the facts concerning the Live Stern Show Math here..

5. We don't care about who you think sucks. I'm tired of thread after thread of "so & so sucks, get him off the show". If you have real comments about something that happened on the show thats fine but so many of you just seem to be loving the hate. You are not allowed to harass the VIPs or the Staff so get your angry ass out of here. If you must vent, post it in the post it in the "Who Gives a Shit" forum.

6. Don't bother telling us your bullshit about how your shock jock is better than Howard. Go tell it to your retard friends because we aren't buying it. We don't care to debate it. We were at the rally on Dec 16th and the numbers don't lie. It's a dead issue. Accept it now, your guy sucks ass. It's not that we can't take your "evidence", it's just who the hell cares about you & your shock jock. Again, if you must vent, post it in the "Who gives a Shit" forum.

7. "Howard Read this!!!" I know we are all excited and sure it would be great for someone from the show to read your message, but try to refrain from making the site all about trying to get their attention. It's one of the things that made Howard's official board hard to read. If you want someone's attention, be a funny creative poster and start contributing. The only sure way to get a VIP a message is email them at SternShow@HowardStern.com BTLS@BTLS.com or ferrall@sirius-radio.com.

8. Don't bring some ancient thread back from the dead unless you have a really really good reason. Posting "she's hot" in a 1 year old thread will cause the other members to become angry. Don't do it. Look at the old shit, but don't reply in those old threads.

9. Watch what you post and where you post it. There are several forums here and we have them for a reason. Take it upon yourself to post in the appropriate forum. This is mainly to keep things neat but adult material one that you MUST post in the appropriate forum. All nudes or other not safe for work material belongs in our Adult Forum.

10. Don't scare away the chicks.

11. Don't be a racist jerkoff. It's not funny. The occasional off color joke or photo goes with the spirit of the Stern Show but ever since the Kramer incident, this place has slowly been becoming a clan rally. Ease up on the racism. I'm a white guy and it's getting uncomfortable for me. I have black members here. Just like I don't want you to scare off the chicks, I don't want you to scare off the blacks. Nobody's asking you to be politically correct. Just stop being a scumbag.

12. No Soliciting. I can not let every tom dick and harry come onto SFN and beg for money. No more buy me boobs, help pay my bills, send me money posts from people we don't know. Even if we know you, it still shouldn't be done unless it's been OK'd by me. Don't try to sell your crap or promote your website. Don't even post affiliate links. Basically, don't try to make money off of SFN or scam our members. Nobody should be soliciting for anything what so ever without permission from Mutt. Your account will be closed. If you have some legitimate thing you need promoted, run it by me first.
