Starplayr & uSirius are no longer available
I know you guys are gonna ask what happened to the Starplayr thread so i might as well address it now. I took it off the homepage, unsticking it, and recycled it. The software is no longer available. Because of this, the fine people at nicemac who make the Starplayr & uSirius software asked that I take down the thread. He couldn't give me any details as to why it's no longer available or why I need to take down the thread but if it's what he wants, no problem. Their company has been a good friend to Sirius subscribers & Stern fans for a very long time now. I can't thank them enough for their excellent free software and I'm very sad to hear that it will no longer be updated.
I checked their site and it appears that none of their software is available anymore. The windows mobile app & the Starplayr desktop apps for both windows & mac are listed as "Temporarily Unavailable". As you probably heard, their iphone app uSirius was declined by apple not long ago. This is a serious blow to SiriusXM subscribers. Like I told Howard Stern the the other week, I use the Starplayr desktop application to listen to Sirius every single day. I find it 100% better than using the standard player found on www.sirius.com. It's was even nicer than the player we beta tested for Howard years ago. it's user friendly, graphical, & had a nice preset system. besides all that, it looked cool on my the TV in my living room. The way it displayed the PDT info when you moused over the preset buttons made finding music simple and even people who had never used Sirius found it easy to understand & navigate. For a company to develop such a fine program and make it available for free as very low impact adware, was fantastic. Even without the time shifting & recording features which had long since been removed from the software, it was a must have items for every Sirius XM subscriber. IMHO these apps made Sirius more user friendly and could have helped it compete with new streaming audio options like Pandora. by the way, my Starplayr is still working but without updates I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it dies. I'm still sorta in shock over this. I really thought their iphone app uSirius was going to be huge and expected to see lots of people using it. Ralph Cirella was one of the beta testers and had nothing but great things to say about it. Tim Sabean asked me about it and a couple other Stern show staffers. There was a buzz going around. I was really happy for nicemac assumed this could only mean good things were down the road for them. guess i was wrong. I've searched google for info about the official Sirius iphone app but can't find anything. it's just article after article about the Starplayr. so to wrapup, Sirius will no longer be offering a free internet stream to it's subscribers and for those of you that opt to subscribe to the $2.99 high def stream, you won't be able to use Starplayr's windows, mac, windows mobile, or iphone apps to do so. Sirius says they will be releasing their own iphone app. I believe you will still be able to pick it up using the Sonos system but I have not been able to confirm that. The Sirius Yahoo Widget is still available. We'll have to keep checking http://usirius.starplayr.com for any updates. I'll be sure to let you guys know if I hear anything. |

Tinfoil hat on...
Maybe the sudden extra publicity from the push of the iPhone app finally made Sirius pay enough attention to them and say 'Hey... don't you also make an app that lets people stream from multiple locations at once and does not time out? Sorry, Now that we are gonna charge for online, that don't fly no moe.' |

I am cancelling Sirius. The reason was that the price increase was crazy so I was going to just stick to the INTERNET ONLY account for $12.99 and stream it through the upcoming IPhone app.
Now that this is dead, I am out! I guess I can come back easily without having to activate a radio by subscribing to the Internet only feed when it's ready for the IPhone. And they wonder why they are in trouble. PATHETIC! |

This sucks, very anti-competitive practices in play here by Sirius XM and Apple. I'm clinging to the Starplayr2 on my Mac like grim death, until the day it can't find the high bitrate servers.
Suck me hard, Sirius XM. |

add another satisfied customer to the list (note sarcasm.) I seriously cannot believe the way that Sirius treats it's paying customers. My Stiletto 2 is on the fritz and I am just going to ride it out. I cancelled my 2nd subscription because it's not worth it to me anymore. The Sirius experiment has just really made me very tired or technology. I am so sad that "the Revolution" has come to this. the only come up it that I will get over on this company is when Howard retires and I can cancel my subscription. if this is deemed as being a "haters" post then so be it. but for a company that begs and pleads for us to buy radios as Christmas gifts, add 2nd subs, pay for internet feeds, etc it's just no longer worth it.

The fact that NiceMac isn't talking might be a good sign that Sirius is working a deal with uSirius Starplayr to release the software for all platforms. I really doubt that Sirius plans on adding any additional charge(s) if they do support the Starplayr platform.

I've cancelled my Stiletto 2 and internet access on both radios, the only sub I left open was for my car stereo and I don't know how long I'll keep that one for. For a company that is trying to stay alive they sure know how to screw their customers.
