This is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_and_Ray

Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding were a comedy duo that began in radio in the late 1940s with a daily 15-minute show titled "Matinee With Bob & Ray." They continued on the air for over 40 years on NBC, CBS, the Mutual Broadcasting System, and NPR, ending in 1987. Some episodes were released on phonograph records, and the pair had a 15-minute television show that ran from 1951 to 1953. They appeared as guests on Saturday Night Live in 1978.

All the shows were ad-libbed with Bob and Ray playing all the characters, often spoofing the conventions of other radio programs. Characters included Wally Ballou, an often inept in-the-field reporter; Mary McGoon, a home economics advisor; Webley Webster, a book reviewer; Artie Schermerhorn, an "investigative" reporter; Biff Burns, a sports reporter; and countless others.

Spoofs of radio shows were also a trademark, including soap opera parodies like "Mary Backstayge, Noble Wife" and "One Fella's Family," children's shows like "Mr. Science," and "Matt Neffer, Boy Spot-Welding King of the World," and game shows like "The 64 Cent Question." Always hilarious, the skits were also often educational -- as, for example, their enlightening interview with the Komodo Dragon expert.

Ray died on March 24, 1990.

Howie and Robin, around the WNBC and early WXRK days, decided to goof on Bob and Ray by deeping their voices and pretending to be the duo who acted homosexual around each other. I think the FCC got pissed and fined Infinity for making fun of "respected radio icons".

I believe the excuse given to fine them was that they used to tout they they had such deep voices because their balls were so huge.

That was some funny shit today. Bob and Ray would always crack me up.

Yeah, that's the reason. A dumb one if you ask me.

His name is Who, and at second base, his name is What and....."

FYI, Bob Elliott's son is the very talented Chris Elliott.

Chris' TV show "Get a Life was one of the funniest shows ever! His father even played his father on that show. Chris was also on SNL and Letterman. He's has been in a ton of movies, too. Cabin Boy is probably his most famous role, although I liked his small role in Groundhog Day just as much. I only notice him doing cameos/guest appearances on TV shows now. I would LOVE to see some old episodes of Get a Life...great show!
