Those of you who have used it, what can you say about it?

I bought it because it was the only radio besides the S50 available at the time. It happens to include a car kit. I use it almost exclusively at home. I think it is a good value. None of the shortcomings stop it from being a solid, fully functional radio.

PROs:

- Price: $50 or less

- Simple interface

- Remote included

- FM transmitter

- Flexible car dock that can be suction cupped to the windshield, clipped to the sun visor or screwed into the dashboard

Cons:

- One line scrolling display: When driving it is inconvenient to watch for info to come all the way across it. Some longer song titles and program names are cut off.

- No signal strength display

- Oddly placed remote sensor that sometimes requires aiming the remote in awkward positions

- Unnecessary home kit: If you are only going to use it at home I imagine you can use the included "car" antenna, dock, audio cable and your own 12v DC adapter instead of buying the $50 home kit. I haven't tried this but I figure the adapter isn't hard to find or very expensive. Otherwise, if you use it in both your home and automobile the 2nd antenna will be useful. The home antenna in the home kit is nothing more than the same magnetic car antenna with a removable plastic base.

I have the XACT Visor and agree with your Pros and Cons. I have it mounted on a vertical pice of the dash in the center section. I used the 2-sided tape that it came with.

i agree that the IR remote sensor is in an odd place and have flipped it upside down since this picture was taken. I can now just hold the remote at a comfortable position to change channels. there is an option in the Menu seetings to flip the display.

Here is a picture:

I am listening to my visor right now. It does the job. It's cheap, even without a rebate. It's available from your local target. Easiest way to get Howard! I like it. I made my own home kit because the home kit is way too much. Worst thing about it? The remote really sucks.

I go this one for kimba. it's a fine little unit. easy to use and I really like the dial on the side tha lets you jump through the stations

I got 2, not bad for the price but the remote aiming can be a pain some time

Nice easy unit that can be taken from vehicle to vehicle, remote absolutely sucks though, not only because of the oddly placed sensor, but how about the number comfiguration's? Have the people at Xact never seen a phone, calculator, etc. to see how number's should be lined up by three's?

i agree with all the above statements. i have had no problems with mine, and i bought it because of the price. it goes in my work truck, so if it got damaged, i wouldn't mind buying another.

the issue with the remote sensor is WAY annoying. that's the only thing i really do not like about it.

All of you do realize that the reeived can be fliiped upside down and then you flip the display, right? Might help with the remote sensor working better.

i do realize that, but in the place i have it mounted, it wouldn't do any good for me. beside, i don't want my cool little sirius radio upside down, looking all weird and stuff. geez...

Love mine. Use it in my work vehicle and is very easy to take in and out. I bought the home unit from Circut City when it was on sale for 15 bucks after Christmas.

They had the home kit for $15 bucks! Damn, I missed that one. The Visor is a great unit. Even the FM transmitter works great. The knob makes scrolling super easy. Hopefully, upon a revision, xact will make a better remote. Try standing more than 5ft away from the thing and use the remote. It is very weak.

My hubby has that in his car and he said he likes it. The only drawback is it seems that the plug is a bit loose-fitting, easily fixed with a piece of tape. I have the Sirius One in my car and I love it.

Was your home kit merely your own 12v AC adapter?

I love mine, nut as others said the home kit costs way too much. Why should the home kit cost more than the actual receiver?

i love this unit. i got a different untit on 1/6/06 and the display screen burnt out after howard's first show on the 9th.

so i took it back and they ddin't have anymore. so i ended up getting the Visor. but i fucked up and also got the home kit. i totally didnt need it all. but oh well i guess i got a backup antenna.

but i do reccomend this unit. as mutt said. the knob on the side is so great, i can go trhough the stations so fast.

I really like my visor unit, I've had it since November and bought another for a Xmas gift..I bought the home kit also and it works well but i do have to move the antenna around at different times of the day. Also I've noticed that when I leave it in the car on cold days/nights the remote will not work until it gets warm.

i just got this for my mom for her 57th birthday and as much as i wanted to keep it for my car, i had to give it to her because it's perfect for someone of her advanced age! ;)

seriously, with a total of 8 buttons (one of which is the power button) it doesn't get any easier!
brodieman2k
Simple, no frills unit. Remote sucks, but I usually only scroll between 100/101.

Yes, I had a a volt adapter lying around the house. I went to radio shack to see if they had a wall plug adapter, but during my browsing, I came across a adapter that acepts the 12v plug from my visor. I wired that to my 12v adapter, and voila!! Howard 101. It's a bit bulky, but it works. Cost me about 6 bucks.

For the price i paid for this unit ($40) i think it works fantastic.. It works great in my company vehicle, in my personal vehicle and at home.. The built in FM transmitter works good in my house too.. I can listen to Howard with just about every available radio in my house..
I didnt purchase the home kit, but i went to Wal Mart and bought a 12V Universal plug for $12 so i can power up at home.. No need for the home kit antenna because i get a perfect signal with the included antenna as long as i place it near a window.

Yeah the remote sucks but for the time being until they come out with a bad ass truly portable unit that is better than the S50, i'll stick with the Visor.
