I just hooked up my XAct unit at my desk at work, plugged in the power and turned on my radio and started listening to the show. A couple minutes later I realized that I hadn't hooked up the antenna yet!?!?!
WTF?
I have full antenna bars on the unit, I have great reception but and the antenna wire is a couple inches away from the unit.
How is this happening? |

I had that happen to me once, though very briefly.
My hunch is that the unit has something like an internal antenna and the separate antenna is just an extension or to boost the pick up power, you know? |

Humm. I just moved the un-hooked-up antenna about 10 feet away from the reciever and the signal remained strong.
The sad thing is that can barely get a signal with my antenna at home. |

| You're lucky. I get nada in my house and definitely shit at work without the antenna. |

You're very close to a ground repeater. The signal is so strong that you don't need an antenna, as long as the repeater keeps working properly. |

Thanks Boombox! You nailed it.
I just checked my "antenna aiming" screen and I have zero bars on satellite and full bars on the terristerial antenna.
Thanks again. Mystery solved. |

| You're welcomed! Keep the antenna near by though. Ground repeaters do fail from time to time, especially in bad weather. You may need to use the antenna one day. Good luck. |
