OK, I love Sirius, and Howard...but I'm starting to figure out what is wrong with too many people getting the service...INTERFERENCE!!! I was driving today, and my signal kept going in and out, and I was getting interference. I turned off my reciever, and Howard's show was on 87.9. I flipped to my backup station, 91.1, and sure enough, another Howard fan...what the hell?!?!? We're all listening to the same thing...but if we're all too close to one another our FM transmitters are gonna interfere with each other...ARRRRGGG!

I wish I could take it upon myself to hardwire it, but I don't know how.

Is there an easy way to do it?

Easy. get a Sony CPA-9C CD/MD Cassette Adaptor. It sounds 100% better then the fm transmitter.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...5Fencoding=UTF8

make sure you get the sony on. everyone says the others are crap.

I didn't even know that could happen. The technology will improve as time goes on.

well then do that.

Computer speakers work good if they fit the jack on the radio, but then you would have to power them. They should sell small speakers with a headphone jack, Also it would be cool if car manufactures put in a jack in the radio so you can just tap into the speakers without having to be a fucking electrician.

yeah who the hell still has a tape deck in there car?

I would hardly say Sirius is "getting too big." It's just that the technology isn't mature yet. I don't really get much interference anymore, but the drop-outs annoy me. They need to have more signal repeaters.

yeah, the repeaters kick ass. i can get a repeater signal when i go into hartford, although it's a lot weaker than in other cities...still pretty sweet when you find one...

All you have to do is go to Best Buy and buy a $19 cable that plugs into your FM out jack on your receiver.

It's called: Sirius FM Modulation Relay
flowerfeeder
These should come standard with receivers:

Will solve all of your reception problems.
flowerfeeder
Ignore Best Buy's notes that it "helps eliminate interference." It TOTALLY ELIMINATES ANY AND ALL INTERFERENCE.

according to the best buy website that won't work with my Honda either.

Apparently all i have to do is get a new car and i'll be all set!

If you have an aftermarket stereo in your Honda you can most likely just use the antenna adapter you already have. If not, just go to your nearest car stereo place and get a Honda antenna adapter that fits the relay. Problem solved.

Trust me, man, this thing is worth the money and small installation hassle. Much easier than it sounds.
cooper243
I found one for my PNP3 and it put it in myself. It was a bit of work, but if you don't want to do it Best Buy will do it for you for a fee. I used to get interference all the time and now do not get it excent for a stretch of about an eight of a mile in downtown Columbus, that is all!

You can also buy a radio that has an input for a wire like an Ipod, or a headphone jack that can be used on your Sirius.

TubeBar
Could just be dead zones, but I'm also wondering the same thing.

I do think car makers are lame for not putting an input jack on all radios now .
It would cost les than a dollar to do it and make life better for all sat users and Ipod mp3 player etc .
luckily I have little trouble up here in Canada but can see the need in the future .

I've been experimenting with the transmitter lately. Seeing how far I the reciever can transmit from my car to the radio inside the house or in the backyard. I have noticed more interferance on the highway due to nearby cars with Sirius.

Is the sportster more powerful than the starmate?

If you have your receiver in your apartment, could all your neighbors listen in to the show?

If my receiver FM transmits something 'obscene' (like Ronnie the Limo driver saying Lets Fuck some Whores) can the FCC come hunt me down?

great I bought it but I've yet to install it...one fucker at the best buy told me that's all I need and another told me I needed more parts...the first fucker told me 20 bucks for the modulator and 20 bucks for labor and installation I said sweet...and the other said it was more like 45...so I haven't installed it yet...maybe this weekend

I have mine hardwired. I can't imagine using an FM transmitter, that must suck. It's not that the technology is behind. It's all there, it's just that most people either won't buy it or they don't know it's there.

My Kenwood head unit is Sirius ready and I bought the Kenwood Sirius Tuner and mounted it behind my glove compartment.

I have perfect sounding Sirius with absolutely 0 interference anytime I want now.

I'm not bragging, I'm just saying buy the technology instead of saying it's not out there.

I have a Sportster Replay with the boombox at my desk at home. I just got it off ebay ($30 for the sportser, $45 for the boombox). It sounds great too, no interference either. I'm starting to feel lucky.

Best bet is to hardwire. Any local car audio store could do it for you.

I made my own aux plug, works just great. aftermarket stereos all have rca's you can plug into.

Have a SONY AM/FM/CD and the Audiovox wired into the Aux input in it. Only strange thing is the SONY says "XM" on it...not that I would consider subscribing to that. :) FM Modulation sux! and not the way to do it!

If you live in a small appartment your neighbors would prob. be able to pick it up, I have the radio upstairs in my home and when I sit downstairs at the comp. I use the transmitter, it works well and I get a workout running up and down the steps to fix the signal or change channles.

When I bring my shit to work I have tendency to leave it on and just shut the regular radio off, then if I get in my car hours later I hear the show, the radio in the car holds the signal for about 150 yards or so.
Once when I was leaving for home the signal started to crap out about a block away from work, and I was about to get all pissed and looked down at the thing to see if it was the antena fucking up-- and It wasn't even there. I had to go back to work and get it.

Don't hold you're breath. Look how long it took computer makers to resond to consumer demands that ports be put in the front of the fucking CPU and not in the back...and to this day most still don't locate them in front. And that goes for manufacturers of most other electronics...stereo receivers, DVD players, etc. Car manufacturers will be even slower to respond.

Well said. I'm betting it will get better.
Yogi's Perogis

My buddy is a car installer at Best Buy. I was only charged the parts (the relay $20, and two antenna adapters $10 each). So I paid about $45.

Look at spending close to $90 in all.

Not sure about every state, but in my state it's illegal to drive with headphones on.

There is a hardwire hookup. I used it on my Acura TSX, which has the same wiring. Requires some knowledge to hook it up and requires you to disconnect the XM.

The part you need is this: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounsnhond3.html

As it says, you can still use the in-dash CD changer, but have to disconnect the built-in XM. If you have the nav system, you also need the accessory harness listed below the main adaptor.

I hooked mine up myself. Took a few hours and a bit of work inside the dash. While I was at it, I also ran a second set of input wires to it, which I have hooked up to RCA inputs in my central console and could easily use for an iPod or any other device when the Sirius is turned off.

Also hardwired the power input (just a straight connection into the cigarette lighter power) and pulled the antenna through the trunk and around inside the trim. Very clean.

Any competent installer should be able to hook this up if you provided the parts.

Here's pictures of my Clarion docking kit. The location next to the steering wheel isn't that great for viewing the screen, but it's a lot less obvious to anybody looking in, and it's one of the few really good places to mount it in this car. I can see the channel number and the preset buttons pretty well, which is pretty much all I regularly care about.

The installation itself:

And my new auxiliary input jacks, which can be used when the Sirius unit is turned off:
