Baseball
NBA
NFL
NASCAR
I still say baseball. The history is large. There's no bigger and longer rivalries than Yankees/Sox, Dodger/Giants. And lets face it, there is just about a team for everyone in the country to root for. |

With The Ratings it has to be The NFL.
Having said that I wish The NHL was number 1!!! |

It's still baseball if only because 99.99% of everyone outside of North America thinks of the NFL as a sad joke -- remember, as popular as the NFL is here, it's only football to us. To the rest of the world, football means something completely different, a sport that's umpteen times more popular globally than our football.
If one were to ask people in Milan or Tokyo or Glasgow or where have you to name the American sport, the majority would say baseball, with basketball ranking a rather distant second. Hockey's not ours, and they consider out football players a bunch of bitches because they wear padding and blah blah blah..........
Within this country, football is quite clearly now the most popular sport - but baseball truly remains "America's Sport", and that's unlikely to change anytime soon. |

I'm sure it's the NFL, but the only one I watch religiously is the NBA. Dem niggas is constantly running around and making points - non-stop action.
Baseball sucks because it's full of cheaters (no salary cap either).
NFL sucks because it's got like 800 players to a team and the team identity is virtually non-existent. |

Aren't Americans' opinions about their pastime more relevant than what someone from Milan identifies us with?
Also, football is the only sport that really lacks a true international feel. |

I would go with that. From an outsiders point of view I would say baseball or basketball. I'm not sure how many people in the UK would be able to name one single football or baseball player though. Obviously Jordan did a lot to put basketball on the map over here but despite that I would still say that it's baseball. |

Baseball user to be America's past time, But two thing have contributed to if falling from grace. One) the strike. when it lost the world seires it lost alot of people. Two) It has become an international sport. There are major leagues all over the world and is an olympic sport (untill 2012).
Football (NFL) is the only sport that is truly american. |

Sure, if we're talking about "most popular sport in America". "America's Sport" implies something different altogether - how it's percieved from within the country is hugely important, of course, but you can't understate how important popularity outside of the country is toward such a label.

That's certainly a good point as far as the roster makeup is concerned - the rosters are almost entirely American.
Same can't be said for the sport itself, though, because it's basically an Americanized repackaging of rugby, "soccer" and Australian Rules Football.
Certainly baseball has some striking similarities to both cricket and hurling, but it's not nearly as derivative as football.
Plus, again, the reason that football lacks an international feel is because ours is the only continent where it's caught on whatsoever, and if it were ever going to catch on elsewhere, it certainly would have by now.
There's no question that football, at the professional and the collegiate level, is now far and away the most popular sport in the US. Calling it "America's Sport", however, means something entirely different. |

| The NFL is not a sport, but a league. Football is America's sport period. Who gives a fuck about what anyone outside the U.S. thinks. Fuck them! How many people attend High School and college Baseball games? Basketball is more popular than Baseball in that regard, but Football rules. Browns baby. :D |

Many people know who David Beckham is but I cannot think of another from the UK. |
