Startled fans of National Public Radio stations and Christian broadcasts at the low end of the FM dial are complaining that satellite shock-jock Howard Stern has burst in on their morning drive-time listening.
"Usually they're upset, because they don't know what's going on. This isn't what they tuned in to [hear]," said Charles W. Loughery, president of the Word FM Radio Network, a group of "contemporary Christian" stations in eastern Pennsylvania.
Normal car radios can't pick up signals from satellite-based subscription services such as Sirius, which carries Howard Stern's show. Instead, engineers blame badly installed, intentionally altered or defective equipment that transmits signals from Sirius receivers into their owners' car radios on FM frequencies.
More from the Baltimore Sun (reg. may be required). |

| It's that factory default setting of 88.1 FM. What's going to happen? Do you envision Congressional hearings making FM transmission from satelittle receivers illegal? |

| If they wanna make a big deal out of this, they can do one of two things, make a universal empty frequency or take their ass to best buy and get me a new car stereo which i can plug my receiver into |

| I have my reciever set for 107.7. Everynow and then i go into an area that has a station on that frequency so im sure people have driven past and heard howard. But i dont think the transmitter transmits more than a few feet. |

| I unplugged my S50 and Stern just kept playing on 87.9 one day. Listened for about 5 mins driving down the road. |

This is a pretty funny topic. Im a truck driver in the South Jersey area and I listen to Stern during my whole shift which usually carries over into the rebroadcast at 1pm.
Since im high up in my truck I always like to look down at the people passing me because you can catch some great cleavage and crotch shots (even masturbation on some occasions) but the past few months I noticed alot of people where looking at me and they were usually old people and they would look up in disgust.
Since I travel the Atlantic City Expressway everyday around mid-day I catch alot of old people coming back from the casinos. For awhile I thought that maybe my back door on the truck was up, or maybe I was swearing around and didnt notice. Well I now realized that its not any of that but the fact that 88.1 is the New Jersey public access channel which is really popular with old people. When they drive by they hear Howard for a brief time. |

I pulled up to a light behind a lady last week and was picking up Sirius Prime Country on my radio, but had my Sirius tuned to Howard 101 (Bubba was on). I'm pretty sure she was getting my signal too because she kept messing w/ her radio. I stayed on her bumper thought the light and for awhile after, after 2-3 min she either changed her FM frequency or turned Sirius off - not sure which.
Thought it was kinda funny at the time. |
