Yep, the Best Buy in Metairie, LA had 6 of them on the shelf this morning, so I picked one up for $99. I didn't think they were out yet.

It sounds slightly better than I expected. The music stations sound a little muffled leaving a little to be desired, but talk stations like Howard 100 sound AMAZING. You can really crank the show up without getting any distortion.

The Cons :

:( No EQ. It really could have used one.

:( As with any SIRIUS satellite radio, you have to use a pain-in-the-butt antenna. It attaches neatly to the back of the radio for storage when not in use though.

 It's VERY difficult to unplug the receiver from the boombox connection after use. I mean, it is VERY VERY difficult to unplug. It really feels like you're gonna break the Starmate.

:( There's no storage compartment for the AC adapter, so you have to carry it around as well if you're not using batteries.

:( There's no built in cd/cassette player or testicle radio. An all-in-one multimedia boombox would have been badass. I can understand the focus on satellite though.

The Pros :

:D THE AUX INPUT. This is the best feature, in my opinion. It really makes the $99 price tag seem like a steal. You can go straight from the headphone jack on your iPod/MP3 player into the boombox allowing you to listen to your digital music collection when you desire. This sorta makes up for the lack of cd player. Other iPod docks of this sound quality cost twice this price. I also noticed that music via the AUX jack actually sounds better (more crisp) through the boombox than SIRIUS radio music.

 Looks really cool.

:) Sounds pretty good for $99.

:) Makes satellite radio even more convienient.

Thanks for the review. I'll probably be getting one in the next couple weeks.

Only thing about it that kinda sucks is that you still have to carry around the antenna. When they first announced that they were coming out with a Boombox for the Starmate, I could've sworn it said the antenna was built in. Then again, the picture of the boombox they had on the site isn't the same one that's out now so i'm guessing they modified some stuff at the last minute.

Still sounds good though. I'll be able to carry it from room to room...which makes things a lot easier for me.

How long do the batteries last if you use it without the AC plug?

I haven't used the batteries yet. I doubt that I ever will. It takes EIGHT batteries to run the fuckin' thing.

they had this at the CES... i can't wait for other items that were shown there...

i'm looking forward to the antenna that works for two radios...

Boomcube!

I've had mine for over a month now and I accidently came across it. I was going on a fishing trip and wanted to come up with a "portable" option for my starmate.

I actually got p*ssed cause after I bought it, I went on the Sirius website to see if it was listed, it wasn't!! I wrote a letter (haha, I'm a letter writer!!! BEWARE!) and went back and forth till I finally got an email that send that it was up there... booya, there it was with a bunch of new nautical stuff that I had not noticed before.

Anyway, I also bought an ac/dc converter for my friends truck cause I didnt want to risk burning the batteries since we'd be out in the ocean for several hours. Used that in the truck and the eight batteries lasted so far for about ten hours... used it on two fishing trips and still holding up well with the batteries.

I also used this in the house, and have the home kit in the office. It works great and find the sound quality great!! Also, use the starmate to transmit to every radio in the house... its ridiculous how I've got my set up...

Morning, boomcube is always on in the house.... bedroom alarm set to 87.7 and wake to howard, and then the radio shower is set also... don't miss a beat!! Make note that I dont lock my receiver to the boomcube, just attached. Makes it quicker for me to detach and run to my car to set up there... make the morning drive, where it's detach and run to my office!! Can't miss a beat, in fact I'm getting to work early cause I'm got my schedule set to the commercials on the show... around 7:45 to 8:00 am, so boom... I'm gone to my desk, where I plug the unit and use headphones that can plug right into the receiver!!

Bit extreme? Maybe but this is not radio, its completely a whole new entity!! I LOVE IT!!

I just ordered this radio from sirius. Right now I have the old starmate and boombox it also takes 8D batteries and they dont last all that long (8hrs max). I wish they made a boombox that had a rechargeable battery built in to it so when its plugged in its always charging and when its not it runs on the battery. This is how alot of power tool companys have radios that run of your tool batterys like DeWalt, Bosch, Millwaukee.

As far as storing the power adapter, since i will prob never use the battery option i just used a pair of pliars and took the little tabs off on half the battery compartment and door and the adapter fits nice. now its nice and compact.

I got my replay and radio yesterday. It's pretty nice and easy to carry if you wind all the wires up right. I hope the next line of radios that come out have a built in self charging battery.
