i'm going to go check my po box in a bit to see if maybe i got a package from bubba yet.....for all i know he coulda sent it already.......afterwards i'm going to go to the pound under the guise of wanting to adopt a puppy and i'm going to pet all the dogs locked up there.......they need someone to love with them being locked up and all and i wish i could take them all home but my landlord wont let me have a dog as per my lease. :dog:

you can volunteer to be a dog walker. my girlfriend used to work at a no-kill aspca shelter and they had people come in everyday to walk dogs. if yourbored just go there and ask to walk a dog. you can even get your name put on a list and if they are really busy and need someone to walk dogs they will call you. |

Are you really going to the pound to spend some time with the pup's?
I do that all the time here in MD, twice in the last 2 years I've left with a dog. I feel so fuckin' bad for them, and when I get a chance, I love to go play with them and give them some attention. That's all most dogs want.
I've gotten 2 rotty's from the pound in the last 2 years. Both far better in so many ways than the labs and rott's I got from breeders.
One was a 12 week old Rotty, the people moved and couldn't take him. They told the pound that he was showing aggression rather than admitting they were too fuckin' lazy to put the time into finding a good home. 12 weeks old aggression?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?
I've had a lot of dogs, many from breeders, and the dogs you can get at the pound are often smarter, healthier and happier than many inbred breeder litters.
Beyond that, you not only get a better dog, but don't have to pay a grand, and most importantly, you rescue an animal that needed it far more than a dog at a breeder.
People are very hesitant to adopt a rotty from the pound without knowing it's history, but I grew up with dogs, and after 5 minutes I knew that these dogs just needed homes and didn't have a mean bone in their body.
I've had rottys, labs, retrievers, GS and a few more, and the Rottys are the smartest and most loyal and loving dogs I've ever had.
It's always great to hear other people taking time to make a dog's life a little better. |

As a Dog kinda person, we adopted a cat and a dog from the Humane Society. The Cat was a cat,,,,,, The dog we got was a Geerman Shepard named "Buckley". He got the women in the house to fall in love with him in the kennel. When they took him outside, after knocking over the Christmas Tree in the lobby, running around like a pig on fire, I thought, NO! He came home with us, what a great dog he has had become. I dont have to worry about the house when I'm not there.
People, go to a shelter an adopt a pet!!!!! |

Right on Mr. Tuscon!! They really are the best. Dogs are such incredible animals. We adopted our cat too, and he's a great cat, tough as nails and keeps the 2 rotty's in line. He has no problem getting in their face and smacking the shit out of them when he doesn't want to play.
I really wish there was a way to get more people to adopt.
Just thinking how much my 2 dogs now have made me happy, and how much a part of the family are, it's sad to know that there are thousands of people out there who could get the same thing, and save an animal.
Breeders don't have to breed, and they always sell their dogs, but these pound dogs don't have a choice. It's sad. |

Don't forget the kittens and cats too. And please, when in a pet shelter do NOT put your hands in the cages without using one of the wipes to disenfect your hands when handling one animal to the next. It is to prevent the spread of cat pnemonia and other contagious diseases amongst animals.
When I first saw my cat at the shelter he was fine..I had him neutered but when I went to pick him up the next day the entire place was quaranteed because of an outbreak of cat pnemonia. Many of the cats and kittens had been put to sleep because of this...my cat was lucky I had adopted him already and he was put on antibiotics.
When I took him home I found out about his bad habits. He would piss on clothes, on the beds etc...it took a lot of patience, love and tons of detergent but he is fine now. (No, it isn't the cat that broke my nose while Ned was on the red carpet).
I also adopted a "cute little puppy" that is now a 180 lb mastiff/dane. Because of his stubborn disposition he was next to impossible to train, but once again it took time, patience and love to successfully train him.
I can't help but think what would have happened to these beautiful animals had somebody else adopted them unprepared to put the hours and effort into training them.
So remember before adopting that cute little puppy or kitten, not all are perfect, be prepared to invest time and energy into training them but most importantly patience and love for succeeding.
Sorry about this long post but unless you are prepared to commit yourself to a pet like you would a child, think twice about adopting.
