The cigarette lighter in my car is a piece of crap so every time I hit a bump the unit shuts off and then turns back on. I can't deal with this shit anymore, is there anyway to wire it straight to the fuse box or anything? I have the starmate and any help would be great !!

I take it you only have one (cigarette lighter) plug in your car.

I wouldn't suggest doing some kind of wacky wiring unless you ABSOLUTLEY know what you are doing. you could easily damage your radio, not to mention yourself.

this guy added a radio to his boat with a battery. maybe you can ask him if his system is still working ok.

I hadmine "hard" wired int my Jeep, now it turns on & off with the car. Only thing is that it won't come on when you turn the key to accesory-only works hen you turn the car on. I have a separate power cord I plug in if playing it while washing the car or whatever. I have a Strmate too.

Thanks, I was a fucking idiot to assume I only needed one lighter in there. I went and bought a new one and just wired it up under the dash. Now the problem is solved.

glad to hear it.

on every new car I see I've noticed they have about three such electrical connectors. that's because (I assume) people need to plug in their cell phones and their laptops and other devices. it's no longer about cigarettes.

just wire it to the fuse box, a 5 or 7.5 amp fuse should work with the unit. Just find a fuse that goes on when you turn your key on.
