Until online streaming happens I go without Howard when I'm at my home office/home. the reason for this is I live in a condo and no external antennas are allowed. I tried the boombox, but the reception sucked and I had to return it.
Anyone else Howard-less at home against their will? |

| get awesome reception in my office and will continue this way instead of online streaming because the pause function is my best friend. And I can fast forward through commercial breaks. Works great for meetings, bathroom breaks, people stopping by your desk. |

This wouldn't be a problem if they allowed those who prepay for 6 months or a year or more to have a second radio at no additional subscription charge. The $6.99 per radio is really a lame policy unless you are using 3 or more radios. |

Not sure I follow...
How would a second radio help me? Run it thru my car somehow? or do they link? |

I don't even bother with it in the house anymore.
It always cuts out.
I even ran the antenna out in the yard and it didn't help much.

Do you have a balcony? I put my Sirius antenna out there and get reception just fine (it didn't work just putting it near a window). The Sirius antennas are small so why would anybody mind if you had one on your own balcony? Unless you either don't have a balcony or still can't get reception with the antenna out there. |

| you dont have to mount it outside, just put it on the balcony and pull it back in after howards over |

Nope, no balcony.
No windows on the sides either, only front and back.
I was hoping for a public outcry from the "condo community" but I guess I'll just go back and wait for streaming.
I'll miss the pausing too, have it in my car. |

Do you not have a stereo in your house? Do you not have a house and live in your car?
Can you not get an S50 and record the transmissions and then listen to them later? There are ways you can listen in your home if you have a Sirius receiver in your car. They just make you pay $6.99 for each additional radio...which is why I was saying that Sirius should allow you service to two radios if you pay up for a year.

| I don't know how many cities they do this in, but here in Vegas Sirius sends the signal through the electrical wiring throughout the whole city. It functions like a massive terrestrial antenna. The advantage is that I don't need an antenna aimed at the satellite. I just have a small antenna sitting on my desk, it's not even pointed outside, and the reception is perfect. Don't they do that in other cities? |
|

| I have mounted on my window still "sp?". My antenna came with a holder and I run the wire under my screen, so the screen, which I never open holds the antenna in place, and I also close my window over the wire. This is your best option and I doubt anyone will notice the small antenna on your window. |

Hell no. Here in the SF area the signal seems pretty weak. I can only get reception at home by putting the antenna on my balcony. I can't get any reception at work even though my office has a large NE facing window. And in my car the reception goes in and out when I drive down a tree-lined street! |

Im in Ca. and have an apt in someones basement in the hills. I run my antennea out the window, up the stairs and into a potted plant up in the driveway pointed NE! Works like a charm unless the garage door rattles too much and knocks it off balance.
I took my Sanyo transmitter with me to Vegas in April, stayed at the Hilton and had a bitch of a time getting the antenea to work. no windows to open. I had the Mtn Veiw not the strip so I believe thats easternly /shrug. I did finally get it in the room but it was fuzzy. Did not lose reception during the 9 hour drive unless I went in a tunnel. Loving It!

| I have a Sirius Boombox at home but the reception isn't all that great and I have to stay in that one room to listen to it because of where the antenna needs to point. I drive over 2 hours each day for work so I do most of my listening in there. I can't wait until they start to stream the show on Sirius website so I can hear the show at work... then I'll never get any work done between listening and surfing around on this site. LOL |

If people who are paying for this and can't get reception I think this will be a big problem in growing the service.I am very troubled to hear all of these problems, I hope Sirius gets this shit fixed asap!!!!! |

Can't you sneek an antenna on a window sill? That would do the trick ! |
|
|
| BroccoliRob |
I live in a condo and I did the window sill thing all winter. I had to take the screen out to rest it there, since the screen totally hoses the signal. (There is maybe only 1/8" of sill left outside the screen if its in, so that is not an option)
Now I put the screen back in for the spring, so I had no choice but to attach it to the siding of the building with double sided tape. No scolding yet. If I do get a letter, I'll just have to go without a screen. They can make me take it off the siding, that is not a gray area. But there is no way I'll give in and remove it from my sill, that is a gray area in the rules. |

I have trouble picking up a signal at work. Its fine till about 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. Then i cuts off.
Ive also invented this crazy looking extendo arm that holds the antenna a couple feet outside the window. Away from the building. It helps with reception. It kinda looks like a suspension bridge. |

| i work in a restaurant kitchen. Therefore, no windows so i miss the majority of the show in the morning. My alternative is to stretch out 100ft of cord across the restaurant, or wait for the replay when i get home. I have the boombox and live in an apartment. The reception is horrible, not to mention it gets worse when the microwave is running. I surely hope they come up with a better solution all together. Not to mention my cable provider doesn't carry HowardTV. I may be forced to drop the whole deal completely. To pay for this is just ridiculous. However I love the parts I get to hear. |

To improve house reception.. do this..This also kicks ass in the car and gets rid of static and poor reception
take a cheap phone earpiece.. cut off the earpiece and plug the plug into the FM out plug - the smaller one.
Now put your antenna out the window as best you could.. it should really help... |

I live in So. Cal and have had very few problems. I get really good reception at home, on my boombox and in the car. I think the worst reception i get is in the car really.
Also, when the weather is bad I seem to get more reception problems but that's it. |

| I have a terrible time with the receiver in my house. I cannot put the antenna outside, so here I am, moving the damn thing around trying to pick up the signal. This is why I have cable TV instead of that damn satellite dish. Same concept. Who the fuck knows where that satellite is circling and all of a sudden NO SIGNAL. It can be receiving JUST fine and poof, it' s gone. Now, in my car, it's pretty reliable. CANNOT wait for the computer access. That will be SO cool. Also, can't wait for the walk around receiver ... wonder how that well that will work. |

I bought the car unit around November '05. Towards the end of December/start of January I picked up the "executive" desk unit for at home.
I got NO signal out of it at all. My apartment walls are concrete, and the windows face due west. I put the antenna on the balcony, no reception. I whipped it in to the top of the tree that's about 10 feet away from the house. No reception (leaves are a huge problem apparently).
The next day the DirecTV guy came over to check the satellite dish for hurricane damage and he was kind enough to put the antenna on the roof and point it west. NO RECEPTION. I returned the unit the next day. I was majorly depressed about that...until I found the torrents. I've got no problem downloading Howard online because I am a paying subscriber. I'll stop when streaming starts happening.
PS: I'm beyond thankful for the torrents, as my antenna crapped out recently in the car. I've got to get it exchanged while the warranty is still in effect. Gonna be a pain in the ass as it's wired through the dash etc. |

Anyone else Howard-less at home against their will? | I GOT THE SPORTSTER. I HAVE A DOCKING STATION ABOVE MY RECEIVER INSIDE MY OF THE ENTERTAINMENT CENTER. MY ANTENNA IS ON TOP OF IT. I HAVE NO WIRES GOING OUTSIDE. YOU CAN'T SEE ANYTHING. RECEPTION IS EXCELLANT. |

| It is illegal for any landlord, hoa, condo owner assoc. etc to stop you from installing a satellite as long as it is on your property. for example, if you rent, you can have it on your balcony/patio as long as it doesn't stick out past the railing/fence etc. i had that problem at an apartment a couple years ago over in phoenix. there is legal info on the FCC website if i remember correctly. |

Gonna be a pain in the ass as it's wired through the dash etc. | If the Directv tech pointed your antenna directly due west that's why you don't get any reception. My starmate home kit instruction book said the antenna must be pointed towards the northwest if you live in the southeastern U.S. The antenna I have is a directional type. It must point towards incoming signal and there's only a small range of adjustment(movement) before signal is dropped. Once I found the somewhat correct heading and approximate angle I rarely have any problems. It helps to also have a clear sight path. Any obstruction will affect reception. If you aim your antenna in the right direction and can't get any signal strength I would almost bet your antenna is defective. |

A lot of people in major metropolitan area can receive the signal from terrestrial repeaters. If this is the case they will get the signal indoors (and can check their signal meter for terrestrial vs satellite signal on newer model radios).
If you don't live in an area with terrestrial repeater coverage chances are you are going to need to put your antenna outside so it has a clear line of sight to the satellites. The satellites are always moving (unlike DirecTV, Dish or XM) so what works at one time of day may not work at a different time. The satellites move from Venezuela to far northern Canada and then out to the South Pacific. As a result ideally your home antenna needs to be able to see a large portion of the sky.
If you are having reception problems you can check the current location of the satellites and the location and approximate coverage area of the terrestrial repeaters on this map:
http://www.DogstarRadio.com/sirius_map.php
If you are trying to pick up the satellite signal make sure your antenna has a clear line of sight high in the sky in the direction of the satellites. |

Virtually all Vegas hotels and lots of other high-rises in other places tint their windows. Often the tint film has some metal in it. This can be really obvious (like the metallic sheen to the windows at the Mirage and Mandalay Bay) or less so (like the Luxor, which is reflective but less obviously metallic), but in most cases there is some metal there. This can really mess up weak signals like satellite radio and GPS. I had the same problem at the office.
Lots of areas, including Vegas, have some local transmitters as well, but they don't cover all areas. In Vegas they are mostly focused on the strip. Being in the Hilton and facing the other way they probably wouldn't help you much either.
I've heard the BS rumor about both satellite companies using the power grid as a "broadcast antenna" but don't believe this to be true and would love to see some actual documentation suggesting it's the case.
