Failing S50
I've had my S50 since 12/05, and have had nothing by problems. It's intent is great, and when it works I'm happy. Though over the past 2-3 months I've had noting but problems. I've had to reset the unit three times and have lost all my content, the unit freezes and I have to take the battery our to resent. Sometimes it just docent record. Or I get no sound when it in the portable mode. This week the play button is not responding in portable mode though the other functions are working it does me no good if I cant play and if course listing. I have the unit car hard wired in and it's a nice set up, no wires showing, it cost money to have it installed. Warranty is now telling me they want the whole thing returned. So now what, I have to take it all out and sent it back. Wouldn't it make more sense if I just returned the S50 unit only. And this my take 2-3 weeks........... Any suggestions ???? |

It says in the installation instructions that hard wiring your S50 to the car is a bad idea and could damage the unit (forget where, but I remember reading it because I wanted to hard wire it to my car).
Call customer service and work with them to completely re-flash your unit (they'll walk you through it). I had a problem with mine, and after the re-flash it works great. |

| I'm thankful for my S50 because I have been able to record 99.9 % of the Stern shows so far, but it is way too problematic for the price. I wish it was more reliable. |

| Having issues with mine also. I can't turn it on or off the buttons on the unit don't work. Still plays I just let it turn off when I unplug it. How do you reset the fucker? Might help I guess? |

| I'm on 3rd S50 and about to return this one cuz the knob just fell off and now I have to use the remote for all functions....thank god for the remote. I've massive problems with my S50 from freezing up to get intermittent recepetion....the verdict from Sirius has always just go get a new one...my wife bought the extended warranty so Circut City has no problem giving me a new one |

| I bought mine online, not extended warranty other then the one year that comes with it. I've missed the show the last 5 days cause of it. |

| I returned it for a new one and it works great. But now it's getting kinda screwy so I'll just return it and get another new one. You can do this until the year warranty has passed. I'll return my S50 by the end of the year just to make sure I have the best unit. |

| Well it's been to good to be true, I went about two weeks with no problems. Then this morning the buttoms got stuck, had to pull the battery out to correct ??? I working againg, I give another two weeks. |

you are definately NOT suppose to hard wire the S-50 unit into your car. the power must come from the lighter. otherwise the surge upon ignition will completely scramble the S-50 unit which is what is sounds like.
the only way to hardwire it into the car is to have an automotive electrician do it who can get and read the precise schematic of your make, model and year of car AND is capable of wiring exactly the same, circuit for circuit as your factory lighter.
I can tell you for certain, no 22 year old working weekends at best buy, etc. has a clue at this level. this is not putting in an aftermarket stereo.

Yes you can assign a FM Channel on your home entertainment system and have s50 streaming.. |
