I'm going to finally subscribe to Sirius and wanted to see if ther are any helpful tips out there as to which receiver/subscirption I should purchase.
I am looking to go balls out and buy an S50 w/lifetime subscription. But then I read stuff like the S50 has problems and that the lifetime subscription covers only the receiver you buy, etc.
Thanks for any guidance. |

DO NOT buy a lifetime subscription for a fuckin' S50. lol I like my S50, but I doubt it will even make it through my one year subscription. Far too problematic for the price.
Get a Starmate Replay, plus homekit, plus boombox. Best money you'll ever spend. |

I see no reason to get lifetime sub either.
you never know what new radio can come out in the future!
anyway, I have a Starmate and so far, no complaits at all.
which radio you get has everything to do with where and how you use it. I don't have a car, but my brother does. He got a Starmate back in dec.
When I stayed at his house for a weekend while he was on vacation, all I had to do was plug my radio in his home kit and I was good to go! (He took his with him in his car)
Also, if you are listening at home, you have to have a window facing the correct direction to get a good signal. check here and here for specifics in your area.
If you have alot of room a boombox might work well, but if you don't but have a stereo then a home kit is best. If you don't have a window to chuck the antenna out of then get a roof antenna
let us know what you are thinking and we can give more advise. and welcome to The Revolution!! |

welcome to sirius, i have the starmate replay and couldn't be more happy with it. Majority of the problems i had in the beginning were because of reception, just make sure you place the antenna correctly and enjoy! |

Do not buy an Xact model! I am on my 3rd radio in a year and have had problems with all. (not sirius related) These radios are cheap but buy a quality product.
Starmates seem to get good ratings. |

I have the Starmate Replay and for the most part it is a good radio, i did have a problem with where the power cord plugs into the radio but that was it. Another one you might want to check out is the new Sportster Replay it looks really nice and i think it may be the same size as the Starmate or a little smaller.
I think there new portable unit is comming out in the next few months but i am not to sure on a date. |

| Starmate is nice - I like that you can "rewind" up to 44 minutes on the chanel you're listening to. Works great when I go into a customer's house and miss something I want to hear, I can skip back and I don't miss it, plus I can skip the comercials Howard has, even though the breaks are a lot shorter now than they were on testicle radio |

Nice! Thanks for the replies... Totally helped my decision. No S50 and no lifetime... for now. I originally wanted it for running, but the S50 doesn't work for that, I'll prob wait to see what sirius comes up with in the summer for that. For now, I'll just grab Player1s post and listen to that on my mp3 player when I run.
Looks like I'm going to go with the Sportster Replay ($20 more than the Starmate) and the Boombox w/a year subs.
Thanks again. |

I have a lifetime sub on my home unit, which I am unlikely to upgrade soon. It should be a good deal.
You can transfer the sub 2X to a new unit for a fee of $75 each time, and you can add a second or third unit for only $7 a month.
With sub prices likely to rise and the lifetime sub likely to be discontinued soon, I would go for it!!! |
