I bought this fucking thing so I could listen to it at work but it NEVER gets a steady signal in the morning inside my office.

It's getting a bit ridiculous... it sucks to pay a monthly fee for something that doesn't work the way you need it to.

Anybody else having these problems?

I love the show when I can actually hear it... maybe I should just wait for the streaming version.

My plug that goes into my lighter broke, now I have to ship it out to get a new one....waiting for stream here too

How r u listening in your office?
ghostwriter
look to see witch direction the antenna should be placed in your area, then make sure you cut down all the trees within a two block radius :error:

Put the antenna on the roof and then dive off the building.

Or have your company put a huge sattelite receiver on the roof

I have a strong signal. Then it cuts out about 10;30 am and again around 2:30 pm.

It pisses me off too. I go from a strong signal to shit. Its the rotation of the 3 sattilites.

Its not poor installation, its a poor signal from their shitty hole in the sattalite broadcasting. How else to do explaing 3/4 full bars to zero bars without even moving the antenna?
MISFITZ
With most office buildings you are going to have problems.

I work in a downtown skyscraper and my cell phone is pretty much useless during those times.

Not only that, but even when I do a video shoot and use a certain signal on my wireless lapels, i get all sorts of problems.

With many office places going wireless and the amount of interferance that can occur, I wouldn't expect to get the best signal.

If you are at work and have a computer, you may opt out and wait until you can hear the stream over your internet connection.

I have the same issue around 10 or so it starts cutting out. It's very aggravating. I can't stand it. They are building terrestrial repeaters. As they build this network out hopefully shit like this will stop. I love Sirius and not just Howard. I love all of it. I can't turn on a regular radio anymore. For me, it's the greatest thing since I realized there was an Internet. I just wish it came in full signal all the time.

Word.

Are you in the Northeast?

I work in an office building and Im lucky that I can actually open the window and have the antenna ooutside. I even invented this retarded extendo arm out of cardbord and plastic. It holds the antenna about 2 feet from the building in order to catch a better signal.
HeadCase
I am one of the idiots who has both XM and Sirius in my car. The XM came built into my exisiting radio when I purchased my car and I bought the Sirius when Stern moved over. I can say that my XM reception is way better than my Sirius Reception. I commute 30 miles each way to work and I have at least 10 different parts of the drive where Sirius is "acquiring signal". During the same commute, my XM only has one spot where it doesn't come in. I listen to Sirius 95% of the time, but it does get frustrating to see "acquiring signal" when I am on an open freeway without a bridge or tree in sight.
TimBoston
You might want to try getting a high-performance home antenna like this one:

POPLYFE
I tel you what... I work at a car dealership and and here we allways have our sirius going all day and night and the signal never cuts out. When I taled to our sirius rep he said that Vegas is the best place for sirius because you can gat a signal any where even inside the hotel/casinos.

Is there any other station to listen on other then 88.1,When Im in my car driving when ever i get up near nyc that station gets real staticy

Most models allow you to change the FM Frequency to another station.

This used to never be a problem for me...and then one day it started acting up with the "Acquiring Signal" and now it says "Antenna Not Found". I called Sirius and they say the antenna is messed up and so I've got to send it in for a replacement. Of course, it's wired into my car by the pros, so I can't just yank it out. Gotta bring it in to be removed, and then I guess I'll have to go back to have it reinstalled.

Anyone have suggestions on how I might install it myself? Nothing involving my electrocution, thanks!

hey genius...that has nothing to do with installation...it's got to do with cheap fucking product...6 months of use out of a "plug and play" unit...I'm not rough with it....fucker's loose...broken...that's gangsta talk for shitting the bed

You must be in south jersey. That is the station that sirius tells you to initially use. I have 4 different stations in memory depending where I am traveling. I have had luck with 87.7 and 93.1 in NYC area. In March i traveled cross country, over 3800 miles and never had a problem other than adjusting the station.

I love Sirius stations but the products need to be improved drastically.

I have an Exact XTR that I used for my car that had to be warrantied after 2 months. When I got it back it worked fine in my car but now it doesn't work in my boombox, which I have to send back also.

I have a Sportster replay I have hooked up in my home stereo works fine most of the times. I have it in my office and when its on I can get it in my bedroom, living room, and even in my basement on a shitty old radio. But once in a while if the wind picks up I have to go mess with the antenna to get reception.

My parents have XM & have not had any similar problems (but shittier stations)

It's going to stream within the next month so you won't have the problem.

Besides, with the daily and weekend replays, there's no way a dedicated fan can't hear each and every show, no matter what his/her schedule might be.
Timmy
I busted the coupling on my "plug n play" antenna when I well.........UNPLUGGED it.

Some of the products are shitty. Do you realize a new antenna will cost me $40! My whole starmate system was $50!

here's why your signal cuts out:

when the birds fly out of view from you, no matter how great your view is of the sky, due to the inclination of the earth, you will get some blind spots.

now that is great reason that XM's birds are GEOsync orbit.

they stay in one place.

What radio do you have? I have the Starmate Replay and the same thing happened to me. I called Sirius and they had me send it back to them, they sent me a brand new one and i got it in about a week from when i sent it to them.

Also i complained to the guy about how i would miss Howard while it was gone so he sold me a brand new Starmate Replay for half price.

My reception sucks too at certain times of the day. They better put another fucking bird in the sky or be ready for a class action suite.

ooohhhh....now that sounds like a plan...and yes...it is the starmate re-fucking-play  seems like the "hot" one to buy at Christmas time wasn't such a great choice...thanks for the advice...I'll definately go for that shit...don't wanna miss any more than I am right now
Maverick74205d
I too get fustrated with weak Siri signals, but I pay for Howard and im not missing anything. The tech will come with time. Let XM figure out new and innovative ways to broadcast bullshit. Siri will probably OWN XM soon enough and have all 6 satellites to broadcast on! :D
djequipment
To those of you that are having problems with the power cord on the car.

Go to Target and by a car cigarette AC/DC adaptor. The Target near me has had two different versions. They cost about 9 bucks. They come with like six different tips, one of which fits my Starmate Replay.

I killed the cord on the factory unit in a few months, but the backup I bought at Target has been going strong for a while now!

It worked out real nice for me, i just waited to send the broken one back until i got the one they sold more for half price. Little did they know i already had an old Sportster so i really wouldnt have missed much, although the old Sportster dosent really work at my work.

I saw pics of the new Sportster Replay and it looks really nice, i may have to buy it when it comes out.

I have the same thing happen -- often for 30+ minutes, around the same time each day.

Looks like they need more repeaters in the Hamptons too.

If I recall correct, the lovely Lisa C. probably feels Howard's pain.
Mr Fister
I got XM when I bought my new Chevy truck. The reception was way better than Sirius. I'd only listen to Sirius in the morning than switch over to XM once Howard went off the air. XM has a way better punk channel, no wigger shit mixed in with pussy ass emo bands like Sirius does. I think the XM may get better reception because the receiver came built in to the stereo head unit. But now that Howard is on all day I don't mind the "Acquiring Signal" message as much
jlessl
Let me tell you, this indoors satellite stuff sucks. I am constantly moving my antenna around inside where I have my radio (who the hell permanently puts their antenna outside at home!) ... it's aggravating to say the least. Then, before, in my car there was never any problem, even going under overpasses, but lately, I've gotten that "acquiring signal" on the OPEN road, for crissakes. What the fuck is up with that?!

Spize
I found that the biggest problem is that the cig lighter splitters are bult cheaply and have no indents to grip the cig lighter adapter... not sirius's fault there. Also Chevy is really bad at cig lighters in general... I had a few problems with bumping the cig lighter and killing the power to the radio 1 a week, so I spliced it into my cig lighter wire, and 0 probs ever since... no problems with signal at all here... try not being such a douche...

Also, install the antenna as the instructions say, and where they say, you will have a lot better luck!

For some reason, the screens on the window screw up the reception here at my buddy's home office. We placed the antenna between the screen and the window pane and it works 1000x better.

I have that same problem in my bedroom, if i put it on the side with the screen it is messed up. When i put it on the side without the screen it works better. I wonder why it does that, kind of weird.

I live in the middle of the country and have had Sirius for 18 month's. My home antenae is on my roof and my car one is loose on the dashboard. I have never lost signal at home, but in the car reception is spotty around tall buildings and trees. On the interstate in open country I never lose signal. I love Sirius, but they do need to upgrade the service. Howard hinted at some new mobile technology that Sirius has in R/D, but I'm not sure if that is new satalites or new recievers.

Use this site to get the best (and most empty) frequency in your area.

and for those that can't listen directly from work (yet), record the show using an mp3 recorder or a minidisk recorder.

I dunno...something tells me my reception wouldn't improve. If a tree with some leaves will block the signal, I gotta feeling that a colon full o' shit won't help.

But if it does, I'll let you know!

Sirius may need to upgrade the service, but in your case YOU need to install your car antenna properly. It belongs on the roof or trunk of your car (outside), not on your dashboard. It is easy to hide the wire behind the trim using the edge of an old credit card (or something similar) to push the wire in between the trim and ceiling panel.
dieoptix
Sirius needs a better ground repeater network, their's is puny compared to XM. Also Sirius needs a real portable, wearable unit, especially for us train commuters.
pierro40
hey dude are you sure your antenna is facing the right direction.

I fired off a letter to their complaints dept the other day about reception in the tri-state area. I can get a signal inside a mall parking garage (where I DON'T need a signal), but can't parked next to a fucking tree. It's gotten to the point I'm screaming at my radio every night, which isn't healthy....... :hc:

I got a response within a few hours, but I don't expect much to change, unless a lot more people start complaining. The northeast isn't like Oklahoma.

My signal in the car cuts out occaisionally and I hate it. :ass2mouth My Boom Box gets used in the house. Finding a signal is a pain in the ass. :moon: I put the antenna in the window and the hope for a signal...

I had a lot of problems in with my home reception until I bought the antenna extension for 36 bucks. Now I get a signal all day long, I recommend trying one.

I've never had a problem either. and my sign is MOSTLY from satillite - Not repeaters.

it's ALL about pointing it in the right direction. site for helping people get the direction. the home antennia HAS to face Upward and toward the North/West (if you are on the east coast) or North/East (if you are on the west coast).
