| Where is your antenna? |

| Its the rotation of the 3 sirius sattilites. You can get a great signal then it dumps out on you. Happens to me at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. Im in the ntheast like you. |

it CAN'T just be the "rotation". I'm on the same planet and I have YET to experience a lose of signal. I spent a few minutes tweeking the EXACT position of my home-kit antenna. you know, the one that has a hinge. (I have a Starmate and got a home kit).
anyway, i positioned it so it faced northwest (I'm in NY) and got an ok signal. then while visiting my brother looked at his antenna (same one). it was angled to face the sky more. (gee, that makes sense).
well, when I got home, I fiddled with my antenna some more, bent the thing backward to face the sky more fully and went back to look at the signal strength on my radio. Yup, the signal was better!
There are some days I get all bars lit up. the whole damn thing goes to the right.
the repeater signal has never gone past halfway.
now, it's possible that in SOME parts of the country there's very little repeater signal, so maybe if something fucks with your satillite signal you get drop outs.
so, maybe you need to be really fussy about the position of your antenna.
just a thought :hw: |

| Ive moved the damn thing a million times. The signal just drops. How else do you explain 3/4 full bars to nothing without ever moving the antenna??? |

It is the movement of the satellites that is causing your problem. Your antenna should be pointed almost stright up aimed to the west-north-west (being in New England). But your antenna should have a clear line of sight, high in the sky from due south sweeping around to the west and all the way to the north-north-west. The satellites will be broadcasting from the equator to near the arctic circle and your antenna needs to be able to see them the whole way. Putting the antenna on the roof tends to work best. When I put my antenna on the roof the signal is pegged at 10 every time I check here in Oregon.
Here's a map showing the current location of the satellites. Center it on your house and check it at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM to see where the satellites are when your antenna can't see them.
