The satellites are always moving, and you most likely have your antenna in a place with a very limited view of the sky.
You wouldn't put your DirectTV dish on top of your TV, why do so many people think that they can put their satellite radio antenna inside? It works in areas with terrestrial repeaters, but it's very spotty in those without. |

Clarion portable unit-- antenna goes out through the wall, mounted on the outside-- works great except for 11:00 am- 11:30am (PST), and 7:00pm-- still not working
pretty much every day/night |

| You have to look up in the sky until you see one of the satellites, then point your antenna towards it. |

I thought satellites didn't move, the whole point would be synchronous orbit (moving at the same speed as the earth's rotation)
Otherwise you'd only get satellite 12 hours a day, with shitty reception at either end...
Something else is afoul here :D |

Permit me to bitch here then I'll shut up. My Xact setup in my car crapped out AGAIN for the third time. Every fucking time it's something different; the cradle the antenna, the fucking adapter.
As soon as I can, I'm getting other equipment.
Shit it's maddening.
Ok, that's it. Thank you. |

That is total bullshit and you know it! I’m sick of you people posting lies around here. Everyone knows the signal needs a little water to lubricate it as it travels through the atmosphere or people will get dropouts. Heavily misty days are always the best for a good solid signal. |

I assume you are talking about it in the home dock. Many things can cause interference if you keep it inside which is why you need to put the antenna outside or on your roof for a good consistent signal. Also based on your location you should have a clear line of sight facing east northeast. In short you need to find a better location for your antenna. |

Hi dadoosh,
These reception problems can always be traced back to the location/installation of the antenna. The Sirius satellites are not geostationary. That's why you're losing reception at specific times. If you want to fix this permanently, you have to: place the antenna as high as possible outside the house/building AND it must point towards the South Dakota skies. It's extremely important that the antenna have a direct, unobstructed line-of-sight path to the South Dakota skies. Obviously, this ideal installation is not practical on some buildings(e.g. the work office), but at home it's the only way to go. It takes more time, money and planning up front, but you will hardly EVER lose the signal again, and you'll enjoy the radio MUCH more.
If the problem you're having is at home, I recommend installing an external antenna permanently, like this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...d=1142288271858
Once you install it, have someone assist you. Then have that person watch the signal strength meter on the receiver during the times of day when you're losing the signal(e.g. 11:30am PST), while you fine-adjust the direction of the FRONT of the exterior antenna towards the South Dakota skies until you get the maximum signal strength on the Clarion receiver, this your sweet spot. It should be pointing somewhere towards North East if you live in Carlsbad, CA. If not, you're just picking up one of the satellites that's about to exit the orbit on this side of the earth, so make sure the final direction is towards South Dakota.
Well, good luck and enjoy. When these receivers are installed properly, you'll get reception even with rain or snow. Good luck. |

THere are three satellites always moving. If your signal fades out every 8 hours for a set amount of time (as yours seems to) it is certainly a problem of your antenna not being able to see the satellites when they are in that position.
Check this map for the current position of the satellites when you lose your signal and make sure your antenna has a clear view high in the sky in the direction of at least one and preferably both satellites.

No, but you may want to send the show "Cheaters" after your satellite radio to make sure it's not cheating on you!!! Maybe you don't pay it enough attention and care for it mentally and physically, so it needs to find that loving support elsewhere...

| One thing you can do to get better consitency with the home antenna is to put a 6"x6" piece of sheet metal under it. Part of the reason that the car anntenea are so much better is because they are sitting on a metal surface. |

I have both, never have a problem with my skyfi (except when going thru the mountains). I shouldn't have to worry about the weather when listening to sirius, it's bullshit. |
|
|
| kali |
the satellite isn't affected by weather. we had a thunderstorm with lightening here last night and my signal was at FULL strenght. ALL the way across.
the repeater signal strength, on the other hand went down. around me it's never higher than about three/four bars. during the storm it often was nothing.
but as, I had full satellite signal it doesn't matter for me. never lost the show.
however, if any of you guys are in areas where you don't have many repeaters (or none) and you are depending totally on the satellite then you HAVE to position your antenna in the right direction and angled correctly. It only took me a few minutes. how difficult can it be??? |
