Dubya is a Dick
Since December when I got Sirius I have repeatedly had the old acquiring message flashing far too often, About two months ago I finally was insistent enough to get to someone within Sirius that had an idea. about how to do their jobs, I am unable to get a signal roughly 60-70% of the time because of Sirius moving the sattelites throughout the day. After missing Howard once again I just got fed up with the fucking acquiring message and I called them they told me where I was located ( So Cal ) that I was guarented 100 % service and since I was not getting it they were going to make things right. They are in the middle of cutting me a check so I have no additional expense in regards to getting a better antenna than the one that came with the unit. Once I get the higher quality antenna I will call them and they are going to credit me with three months service after sending me the cash to buy a better antenna. So they are aware that a lot of people are not getting the coverage they are guarenteed and are willing to make sure that the customers are happy.

It sucks! My radio always loses reception randomly in my house. I don't move the antenna or touch anything. Customer service doesn't help me out!

it took me half a dozen calls to get my $50 rebate

I get the exact same thing in my car. It works fine in my boombox at work but horrible in my car. I've been meaning to call and complain but just keep putting it off. If it weren't for the boombox and could only listen to it in my car I would probably be fed up right about now.

Still waiting for mine, after 8 calls I've had enough and just writing it off. Bad enough it takes 15 minutes just to get someone who understands English. Just awful.

Home unit or car?

They're just a bunch of script readers, just like every big company has. If your question doesn't fit a script, they MAKE it fit a script.

They suck

Sirius outsources its costumer service calls to a company called Stream. Most of their calls are routed to their centers in Watertown NY, and the Dominican Republic. The ones in Watertown make a little over minimum wage and the ones in the DR make the equivalent to 3 dollars and change an hour which is somewhat decent for Dominican standards.
In any case, their training is the basics on the radios and they have the manuals for each radios in front of them that's why they can't answer the more complexed questions. For those types of questions they usually have one or two engineers on the floor but that is only during certain hours.

Hope that answers why they suck.

One thing you can do to get better consitency with the home antenna is to put a 6"x6" piece of sheet metal under it. Part of the reason that the car anntenea are so much better is because they are sitting on a metal surface.
