My situation is that I moved into the parent's home for the summer and can't get reception there. -Hey if you had a $37-$40K law school bill coming in August you'd do things to save money too so back off of the parent's home thing :)
Sirius suggests facing the antenna west, but I've tried all four sides of the house to no avail. I have not tried placing it on one of the two chimneystacks on the home which may help. Has anyone tried that with success? There is a tree line belonging to the municipality that I CANNOT legally touch. And actually I still get a clear shot of the sky with that treeline so I seriously doubt that is an issue unless the satellites are so low on the horizon that they are sitting at 0 longitude.
So Sirius gave me this month for free because I almost cancelled due to the lack of signal. I think now is the time to get creative with antenna placement, but I really don't want to climb on my parent's roof like a monkey only to find nothing works. Can anyone suggest things that have worked for them? Thanks in advance! |

Being in Detroit your antenna needs a clear view high in the sky to the north, southeast and southwest.
Here is a map showing the current (and near future) locations of the satellites:

The yellow line on the map shows the path of the orbits.
Because your antenna needs to see in such divergent directions your best bet (as it is for most home installations) is to put the antenna on the roof. |

Try shooting straight up through your celing and roof. I've had better luck pointing through the roof than I've had pointing it out the windows. Seems strange that it can go through wood and shingles easier than it can go through leaves, but that's what I've found.
You could upgrade to a Terk antenna too.
This is just about my only complaint with Sirius................the signal SUCKS |
