I also suggested a story they should follow and they have been doing reports on this topic. ANd I LOVE it.

maybe, if more of you stopped yer whining and came up with things you actually Wanted to hear about and said so to the news team, you would enjoy it more.

of course you love the story, it was your idea! you cant blame the audience for a lame program. its not our job to write for the show.

I don't see why the news team can't be incorporated into the show. lots of stuff need reporting. Howard always wants to get someone on something.

Yeah, but he doesn't need a staff of 17 people.

Shuli is practically co-hosting with Ferrall, so he might have created a golden parachute for himself.

in case anyone hasn't noticed there's Howard100 forum right here on sfn. i may have emailed george directly, but people can certainly post topics they want to hear about right in that forum. it's been there for months.

this isn't about us doing the job for the news team. this is simply communicating topics we find interesting. this sort of thing is also supposted to happen with other news teams. (Supposedly "real" news teams)

unfortunately, most americans have gotten the impression that the News is JUST entertainment and they expect the media to be performing circus monkeys - just there to do thier dance.

I expect a news team to UNCOVER the facts. If I see a situation that needs uncovering it's my responsibility to point this out to the news team. and it's THEIR job to do the uncovering and getting as much of the details out there.

there's lots I'd like the news team to discuss. there's lots of potential there and I just see people here don't have the imagination to see what I can see.
Phaedrus45
That's too bad. I sure enjoyed the old news format a lot more than the Ferrell show. Hell, it was a lot more entertaining than Riley Martin, who I turn off every time.

I am happy they finally repeat the show, but now it's come to the point where I seem to be hearing the same crap every time. This whole week, I've only listened to Howard's show for only a couple hours if you added all the time together. The replays have gone to overkill. At least with a 2 hour news segment, we got some new stuff, and we got to hear other people's reaction to that days show.

Remember how great it was when Ronnie pulled the prank on Penny? That would never have happened today.

That's what is lacking in Howard News. Any subject that involves any real UNCOVERING, is pretty much avoided.
earthdog82
sorry shuli :)
jerrybobphil
You never want to see people lose their jobs. But I stopped listening to the news about 3 months ago. The stories are awful boring and lame.
SteelRat
I enjoy the News when it brings out certain subjects that the Show can then react to. I think it's asking too much for them to fill a certain quota of news each day, which is why we get so many really trivial stories, or unnecessary interviews with experts that are only barely related to a subject of the day. They're still straining too hard to fill the alloted time.

I'd rather that they only report when there's actually something to report. Scale back the staff, and have them do updates only as needed, and let them also work on occassional documentary type specials on different subjects.
cny rider
News was OK, not really any better than that. If some of that $$ finds it's way to bring Takei back, then it's worth it.
tyrnightwolf
Maybe I'm just a cynic but I think they planned to phase out the news all along. It's just a bit that has run it's course.
OG Kush X G13
george flowers is lame. i like the others
h100+101
lisa g, croan the moan, flowers, ralph howard, and jewjewman are all still there
pierro40
This may sound ridiculous but, I bet if they had regular "Hollywood News", sports and major top stories, they might of saved all of their jobs. With all the replays we dont need the news to tell us what happened on the Howard Stern or Bubba show.

I, for one, enjoyed the news in its one hour format and now its breaks, and I'll be very sorry if we lose Michelle, or George or Langford or Mike Piazza or Penny.

However, I think you're right. The H100 News was created in the context of Sirius wanting H100 to have content before January 9 and it was used to involve the fans to increase subscriptions. It was an effective tool in increasing fan input and involvement since Howard's made the move (e.g., taking fewer regular callers and more new callers from North Dakota, Montana, Kansas, and wherever else Howard was not on terrestrial radio).

The News also served to provide those tongue-in-cheek interviews with the wives and significant others to confirm how Howard, Artie, and Gary, et al., were looking forward to the move at a time that they couldn't go on Sirius air.

Unfortunately, I think that they ran the News into the ground by repeating it too much; I got sick of hearing my own segments, and if I could bore myself, that's clear and convincing evidence of too many replays. People who might have enjoyed the shows at noon and 6 pm were sick of the news by January 9.

With Howard starting on Sirius and them deciding to repeat shows throughout the day, it was a natural evolution that the airtime -- and staff -- would be cut.

With them calling it a cost-cutting measure, it sounds like the H100 News may be a price that the fans are paying for Howard to settle with CBS and get his "tapes" back.

i sort of figured this was going to happen. i've never been a big fan of the news, but i find i like the new format better (once an hour for a minute or two). i think howard realizes the whole news thing is a little too much. i think it's probably a good thing they're streamlining the staff. sorry to say, but i hope one of the three is penny crone. she gets on my nerves sometimes.
El Zilcho
I think George Flowers wants to leave. I wouldn't be surprised if he volunteered. He just doesn't seem to be into it. It to low brow for George. But they won't get rid of Shuli or Penny though. They are the best reporters they have,

the h100 news is JUST entertainment. i dont care who they hired this is not a real news team or anything close to it! sure id like to hear h100 do a story about how missing content on howard tv is pissing people off or investigate howards claim that it took sirius 6 months to put together a website that could handle all the traffic for online streaming. but i would never expect this because i know their autonomy is a load of crap!

it is purley entertainment and there is no responsibility for the fans to participate in its creation. sure its nice when that happens but if the news department cant think of interesting stories it's their fault.

Actually, it's Ralph Howard who I think is disinterested. He, like Flowers, came out of retirement for this gig.

Budgetary reasons, WTF?

Exactly. So what's the point of having the news? :yesshake: I don't think it was ever meant to be "news" in the first place. More like a way to extend the show once the on-air crew leaves...and I think the wrap-up show fills that void quite nicely.

Describing the news staff's reduction as "cost-cutting" is a nice way of saying that the concept isn't working as they planned or it has simply served its purpose. What purpose was that? By the way, some of the reporters for H100 (like Michelle) worked for other news organizations so they've always had a back-up plan.

If they were doing real news maybe you could justify leaving them around but how many reporters do you really need to cover HPE bowel movements? All they need is like two news casters and two feild reporters, not a whole news division. IMHO this is a good way to cut over head and purchase other more important things like sybian attachments :D

I'll take the current news format over the old format any day.

Though the "updates" on 101 are useless when I'm listening on that channel. Seems like the "howard news" doesn't apply over there except during the west coast feeds...
katenandrew
i miss the hour news cast. it was nice to take a break. i feel bad for the team. on the 60 mins. piece george flowers said that he came out of retirement because he wanted to be part of something that was going to change radio.

Penny should go. She's a total fuck up

Penny is the worst I really fuckin hate her, she has a super annoying voice......

I hope Michelle Jerson is still there. She's a sweetie and was nice to me in person. Steve Langford is the MAN, even if they phase out H100 news completely, Steve should stay on for exclusives. George Flowers is a consumate pro but is his talent really needed?

Anarchess
I liked the news in the old format. They just played some things over and over till you had to turn it down. I think they've all done the best with what they were given. Changing rules, backlash from some people, etc. They kept the lawsuit out there and now it's done. Maybe that's the whole key somehow to the cutting down of the news to "breaks" and now downsizing the team. another Captain Obvious here. Sorry to see them go, though :(

I never really liked the news when it was on, but now that they only do these stupid news briefs, I actually miss the old news format.
LUNDiS
id expect phil izzetta to be one of them, since he still has a gig on raw dog. id also expect penny crone to be another since she has done nothing but bitch the last few weeks...and was publicly embarassed by RONNIE of all people.

lisa G and george are def not fired...too widely used. steve langford got all the david lee roth stories..so i dont think they'd shitcan him either. i think the 3rd is probably mike piazza...no real show prominence, just a few news stories.

The news was a gimmick to fill dead air before Howard went live. Its time is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY past.

The news was good before Stern came to Sirius, but there just isn't enough going on to sustain anything like that. The writing has been on the wall since before time began.

The news really blows anyway... I change the channel as fast as I do when I listen to a commercial on testicle radio. It was a cool gimmick when we were dying for Howard to start prior to Jan 9. It was cool at first... an all Howard station. Now, it is an old bit and really is not entertaining. Maybe they should do real news. The need for real news is the only reason I ever leave the station anyway; it might be interesting to have a couple of small snippets of real news a day, combined with the goofy news they already do. I hope Penny was one of the people canned... What a pain in the ass she is.

If its for budgetary reasons, than I would figure it would be the highest paid reporter that was let go.
STLSteve
I'm betting it's Lance Rodman (Phil from Rawdog), Ralph Howard and Shuli.

The first two, because they contribute the least to the news. Shuli, because he's got enough other stuff going on with Mizz Men and Farell.

I think they can streamline the newsteam with the better reporters. Less is more. Here's who I would keep:

1) George Flowers - lead anchor
2) Penny Crone - She covers the news and sometimes IS the news
3) Shuli - His comedy mixed with reporting is great
4) LisaG - She's HOT and we need an entertainment reporter
5) Michelle Jerson - her reports are upbeat and have personality
6) Steve Langford - the Pitbull, gets the tough stories

I didn't know that. His show was OK, but he was kind of annoying.
HeyNowBigFan
I agree with some that the reason the news sucks is because they seem to miss the point. Some stories are completely uninteresting to Stern fans, but they don't seem to care. And other stories that would be really entertaining, they don't see at all. They need a news producer who is a huge fan and knows the sensibilities of the fans and, therefore, will give us what we want from news. Personally, I'd love to see the news followup where Howard leaves off with SOME guests. I'd love to see them delve into the personal lives of the whack pack and some show members. For example, what's the deal with Benjy. Sure, he's fat and sweaty and eats tons of lettuce and tofu "meat," but what's his life like outside the show? Don't interview Benjy, that would be painful to listen to. Interview others about him. Glad to hear they're paring down the news. I was a fan before Howard got to Sirius, but now the news sounds like a commerical to me and I tune out. I wish Howard would get rid of the commercials for the news and the wrap up show within his show. It adds no quality and takes away from the show's rhythm and flow. Very rarely does something interesting happen with Lisa G. or George Flowers or Jon Hein during these commericals for the other shows. Ix-nay on the whole thing.
BigFatArtie
i agree. Why hire a bunch of old stiffs from strait radio news? It is way too obvious they are not real fans they don't know what they hell they're reporting on. Dump the news anyway, it was good for filler before Howard showed up but now it suks
dml505
if they could get their act together and get some good stories from behind the sceens it could be great.all they have to do is spend some time reading the posts and they'll get an idea of what fans wanna know not that boring stupid shit they do
Mutt
You might as well stop all the guessing

Howard just said that Mike Piazza was one of the 3 let go. Gary added that Mike may be back to fill sometimes during vacations. Howard explained how the cuts had nothing to do with performance.

Phil Iazzetta's Raw Dog show is gone. Wait till everyone realizes this means no more BBQ. That show was really popular and I'm surprised they ended it. Since his show is gone, I'd say it's safe to say he was one of the 3.

I heard throught he grapevine that Michelle Jerson was the 3rd. The one reporter that was willing to go topless for Howard and they let her go?! that's crazy.

It's a shame that they had to let Stern fans go. All 3 of these guys were big fans and really knew the show. The H100 News needs fans. I'm sad for them. They all loved their jobs & Howard. Hopefully we see them back in some other apsect.
Da Pokerbrat
I'm sad to see Michelle Jerson is now gone. She was always cheery and had a great personality.

Hopefully, they still keep the H100 news. Now that it's being played during show breaks, I can actually catch it. The Noon and 6pm news were hard for me to find time for.
devoelodi
Phil Iazzetta did himself in with all the crying about not having enough time or being paid enough.

he did that every single day. everyday. same song and dance, everyday. i use to look forward to his show when i first got my sirius last year, but damn. that guy ruined a good thing when he tried to make it more talk and less comedy requests.

Any "bitching" that Phil did about more time or more money was most definitely done in jest. I have actually sat in on a few of his shows, and even if they could have given him more time, he wouldn't have been able to do anything with it. As far as ruining a good thing? Interviews with Comdedians are a bad thing?

Sad to see Phil go, and yeah, wait 'till the Stern crew finds out there won't be anymore BBQ's at Raw Dog.

Phil did his shows becasue he loved it and wanted to be a part of the Stern Show. there wasn't any bitching about money. You guys act like he was being greedy. he just wanted to be paid for his work. I assume you guys who are painting him that way all go to work each day for free. this isn't college radio. his raw dog show was very popular. I hope we see him back in the future.
