Today, at a presser, this exchange happened with Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times:
Bush: You gonna ask your question with shades on?
Wallsten: Yes...
Bush: But there's no sun out here.
Wallsten: It depends on your perspective.
Bush: Touché.
Wallsten is legally blind...

| People will say, "Big Deal", but this reporter is at the White House all the time, I really think he's poking fun at the guy. And the rest of the world will see this. |

This is almost as bad as him cleaning his glasses on that woman's dress when she wasn't looking while he was on Letterman...
What a douchebag. |

What a moron.
This is typical of Bush. His neverending hostility is barely disguised.
What decent person makes caustic remarks about people who wear dark glasses? No one, because every decent mother in the world teaches her kids never to do this.
How could Bush have not gotten this lesson? Drugs? Emotional disorders? Alcohol?
Or can we expect little better from the spawn of a woman like Barbara Bush-- who makes vicious cracks about the suffering victims of Bush's failed hurricane management. A woman who doesn't even comprehend how nasty she's being.
Christian woman. Yeah, right.
It's amazing that the religious right thinks Howard Stern is indecent.
Where is the criticism from the religious right about the indecency of the Bush family? |

| Don't forget he once told a reporter that "He looked Comfortable", because the reporter was sitting...in a wheelchair. He also mocked a woman who was on Death Row and pleading for her life. |

Here's the appaling video of Bush taking a quick wipe on a woman's dress when she isn't looking.

How do Bush-lovers defend the man's character when he thinks other people are for wiping his face grime on? |

That clip has always pissed me off. What type of motherfucker thinks he can just grab someone else's shirt and wipe his goddamned glasses on it?
That is worthy of a severe ass beating... |

I would suspect this type of behavior from a spoiled rich frat boy. Wait a second...Bush is a spoiled frat boy. I bet he was a cheerleader too in college.
To quote the late great Hunter S. Thompson, whevenver Bush does something like this, "I almost felt sorry for him, until I heard someone call him "Mister President," and then I felt ashamed." |

| I would give Bush a pass this time. The reporter stated that he doesn't advertise the fact that he's blind and Bush did call the guy personally to apologize for the gaffe afterwards. Since this particular reporter wasn't a gay prostitute planted amongst the legitimate press to ask him softball questions, how can we expect the president to know of him. |

I understand what you are saying, TC, but it's more about him being a dick and trying to fuck with the guy for asking the question with his sunglasses on, as if he is too important to be asked a question by someone wearing sunglasses. Bush thinks he is fucking royalty or something. The reporter turning out to be blind just made it worse. |

I think Bush is a disaster and ruined America at home and across the world, but I felt bad for him on this one.
The reporter looked like he was too cool for the room with his shades on and Bush called him on it. You should show some respect and take off your sun glasses when you're asking the president of any country a question..........the fact that the guy was blind gave him a legitimate reason for wearing the shades, but how could Bush know that? |

No. Bush's own failures undermine him more than anything anyone can say.
From lies about WMD to create a failed war to lies about being a fiscal conservative to create a huge deficit and a ruined economy to lies about science to put the entire the planet at risk (even Stephen Hawking has joined virtually all climate scientists on earth in opposition to Bush's pseudo-science lies).
Bush's own incompetence and failures are what is undermining him. |

Yeah, if you read what actually happened, it's really nothing. The reporter is writing a whole book about how much Bush sucks but even he says he's not offended. Bush told him "I needle you guys out of affection" and the guy said "Needle away." and Bush said "I'll just use a different needle next time." - indicating he doesn't want to make fun of a dude's condition.
By the way, the guy isn't blind, he just has an eye disease that makes the light way too bright. |

Because what separates normal adults from a Bush or an ironpirate is that while you may be THINKING this guy is trying to be cool, you don't HAVE TO say something about it. Anyone with a maturity level above "frat boy" could have answered the man's question and then asked one of the thousands of Republican clones who serve his majesty why the reporter was wearing his shades if it was bothering him so much. And WHY would he care if the man was wearing sunglasses? It is an outdoor press conference on a sunny day....
I have no doubt Bush was not intending to insult the man, but the fact he had to open his big mouth in the first place is what makes this so funny.... |

Quote: Originally posted by jigzaw Yeah, if you read what actually happened, it's really nothing. |
It IS something. Bush making cracks about a person's disability is yet another example of Bush's lack of character.
And this from a guy who made a big deal about how he's "compassionate" and other conservatives are not.
There are MANY examples of what a failed human being Bush is. Character counts, remember?
According to the entire conservative world, having lousy character disqualifies you for being president, remember?
If conservatives had any integrity, they would condemn Bush's constant failures of character. But for conservatives, character ceased to count as soon as Clinton was out of office. Pathetic hypocrites.
Quote: Originally posted by jigzaw By the way, the guy isn't blind, he just has an eye disease that makes the light way too bright. |
You are wrong.
Like most conservatives, you persisit in being wrong about basic facts despite the availability of actual facts.
Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times is legally blind. His dark glasses are part of his treatment for his degenerative condition.
It's a major character failing to mock a legally blind person for wearing "shades" and for failing to see that the sun was not out. |

and why would he ask the guy why he's "still" wearing glasses. it's like he's implying that the guy is somehow disrespecting him. what is he? the fucking emperor of the universe?
how about HE show the journalist some respect? wouldn't THAT be the most shocking thing to happen in this administration? |

Bush apologized for it, this is very petty shit. Get over it.
"He said, `I needle you guys out of affection,'" Wallsten said. "I said, 'I understand that, but I don't want you to treat me any differently because of this.'"
Wallsten said the president said he would not treat him differently, so Wallsten encouraged him to "needle away."
"He said, `I will. Next time I'll just use a different needle,'" Wallsten said.
Wallsten said he thought that was a pretty good line. And his only complaint is that the president didn't answer his question at the news conference. |

Wrong.
Pettiness is being concerned about a president's sex life. But I notice that the entire republican wing of congress failed to "get over it."
Mocking the medical devices of the disabled is a sign of deficient character.
If failing basic tests of character disqualifies a person for the presidency (as conservatives USED to say), then you need to admit that Bush is not qualified to be president. |

I'll explain this carefully, because evidently there are more mothers like the venomous Barbara Bush who failed to teach character to their children.
A decent mother teaches her children that a person of character does not mock a person's disabilities.
Even if you don't know for certain that someone has a disability or not, you make sure that you don't go out of your way to mock any the medical devices commonly used for disabilites.
Unless Bush is ignorant of the fact that blind people wear glasses, he failed the test of character.
Again. |

I thought Bush was a "strong" leader who doesn't care what anyone else thinks?
He didn't apologize for nothing, dumbfuck. If he wasn't such a fool, he would have kept his mouth shut in the first place none of this would have happened. |

Medical device??!! It was a pair of sunglasses. The guy is NOT blind. He has a condition that makes bright light painful. He can see, was looking at Bush, didn't have a cane, etc.. he even said afterwards that he's not offended because he hadn't yet informed the White House about his condition.
The reporter is also writing a book about Bush being a shitty president, and even HE says this is not a big deal. |

Let's all note that this is the SECOND time I have explained the basic facts to Jigzaw, who is persisting in his error that reporter Peter Wallsten is not legally blind.
It seems strange that any human being who can read and reason at an elementary school level could miss the basic facts of this report, since it is not only in the headline of the news report, but in the headline of this very forum.
If conservatives can’t get basic facts straight, what chance do they have to comprehend evolution, global warming, or the fact the Earth actually moves.

Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times IS legally blind. His dark glasses ARE part of his treatment for his degenerative condition.
Read the story: After Sunglasses Gaffe, Bush Apologizes to Legally Blind Reporter. And note the use of the term “legally blind”

Where are you getting your facts? The article says that White House Communications Director Nicolle Wallace “knows Wallsten and been aware of his vision problem for years, dating back to when both were in Tallahassee, where he worked for the Miami Herald and she for Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.” |
