I think the UFC should have a rule change. My proposed rule is that a fighter cannot be saved from a submission hold by the bell. If you are in a submission hold and the bell sounds, the fight continues. There would be 3 ways to stop the round under such a scenario:
(1) Tap out,
(2) Pass out, or
(3) Escape
If the man in the hold somehow gets a reversal, then the fight continues and can only be stopped by tap out, pass out, or escape.
I think this rule is needed after seeing Kendall Grove vs. Ed Herman. Grove had the rear naked choke and Herman just waited for the round to end. I hated that. |

That rule change is stupid for several reasons.
First off, what determines whether or not you're "in" a submission hold? Complicated maneuevers like omoplatas and heel hooks have varying degrees of torque and solidity in their application.
Second, why should a grappler have this advantage when a striker doesn't? Carrying this to its striking equivalent, why should Cro Cop be prevented from kicking Minotauro 1 second after the bell in their classic fight? He was still in the same prone position from the assault.
It just seems unfair, arbitrary, and would also lead to intentional laying and praying to end rounds rather than a hurry to finish the fight. |

| Nice try, but that's not a great idea. |

| there are time limits for a reason. it wouldn't make sense to extend the rounds any further. |

Right on, everything you said is right on point. I mean, if you enforce this rule then why should a striker stop when the bell rings. |

| Perhaps the rule needs to be analyzed. Perhaps it can be applied to strikers too. I just do not like the way the bell saved Ed Herman from a rear naked choke against Kendall Grove. |
