One of the greats. Thanks for the great years Stevie Y.

The Red Wings organization will hold a news conference at 1 p.m.
Yzerman, 41, has played with the Red Wings since his NHL career began at age 18 in 1983. He has been the team's captain since 1986 and has won three Stanley Cup trophies with the team during his career, in 1997, 1998 and 2002.

Damn, it'll suck to see him go. But he gave us more than enough entertainment. And never complained.
Good luck, Steve! |

A 10-time All-Star, Yzerman was picked for the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1984. He won the Lester B. Pearson Award, an MVP trophy chosen by the players, in 1989 and the Conn Smythe Trophy honoring the playoffs MVP in 1998.
Yzerman said his most cherished memories include hoisting the Stanley Cup three times above his head and having an Olympic gold medal put around his neck.
Yzerman played in 1,514 regular-season games, scoring 692 goals and tallying 1,755 points, sixth most in NHL history. |

Great hockey player.
My favorite Yzerman moement, December 1987. Sabers - Wings at the Joe. Probie takes a run at Barrasso. Maguire takes a run at Stephan. When everything clears up, Yzerman gets paired off with Maguire and takes a beating (Steve Y even fought Doug Evans that year). The crowd is throwing garbage on the ice. Probie goes Wolverine bezerker...lands a nice right across Barrasso's face and suckers Maguire with a great shot. Those Detroit teams were full of underachievers but Yzerman made them great...Snepts, Martinson, Kocur, Norwood, Probie, Burr, Galant, Delorme...list goes on. |

| Stevie Y is definately a dying breed, one who plays the game the way it is supposed to be played and is a role model on and off the ice.. |
