Well, the preview show was about as awful as possible. All but about 5 minutes were devoted to Kimo training in Brazil (yeah, we know how you were able to manage those three-a-days now). Then, the other 5 minutes were random comments by Bill Goldberg that just seemed to insult the intelligence of anyone who's ever watched MMA before.

Let's see how horrible these production values are...
ndhalogod
Is this event being aired from a medieval dungeon? It appears that they only have two big lights around the cage. Well done.

Phil Baroni is on the stick. Hopefully he says something inappropriate.

Fight 1 is McCullough-Sarmiento. Sarmiento won their first fight, but McCullough is about 4.5:1 to win according to Vegas. I like McCullough by 1st Round TKO.
ndhalogod
McCullough landed about 15 solid leg kicks, and 3 jabs. Sarmiento only landed one solid shot, which created a mouse under Rob's left eye. Tito is doing some solid coaching in the corner.

Round 1: McCullough 10-9

McCullough lands more similar leg kicks. He did get caught by Sarmiento twice, once for a takedown sans damage; and another resulted in an awesome sprawl by Rob. I give the round to Rob because Sarmiento didn't really do any damage.

Round 2: McCullough 10-9

Right cross and a trip leads to a nice takedown with hammerfists by McCullough. Sarmiento springs up eventually. Sarmiento is trying to catch every low kick. The crowd is booing for the second time. American fans suck. They don't like wrestling, they don't like striking...what do they want? There are some more lowkicks and some clinch work with knees against the cage by each fighter. Again, the crowd boos. I thought that was a fairly entertaining fight.

Round 3: McCullough 10-9

ndhalogod scores it: 30-27 McCullough

WFA Judges: 30-27, 30-27, 30-27

McCullough defeats Sarmiento by Unanimous Decision

Commentary has been weird. Quadros has been solid as always. Goldberg just speaks at inappropriate times. There were some audio difficulties before the first fight. Ricco looks fucking HUGE. That guy can't weigh 298.

They never put this line on Pinny, so I missed out.

Also, Rampage was up to -267 as of 10:30pm.
ndhalogod
Bruce Willis is sitting with Ken Shamrock in the front row. Will there be an altercation with Tito?
bazookahead
wow... didn't know quadros was doing it... thought it was barry tompkins... yeah, I was liking the idea of ricco in this fight, but the reality of him being that out of shape would have prohibited me from betting on him...

the lindland line is swinging pretty wildly... -251 to +231 now... was at -266 +246 a second ago...
ndhalogod
They mentioned Waterman's "WWF" background, and Goldberg says "I'll talk about anything but that."

Ricco-Waterman begins with feeling out. Waterman tries to throw from the clinch, and Ricco resists against the cage. Ricco with fucking AMAZING takedown D against the cage! Ricco is almost taken down, then deliberately grabs the fence. I would imagine this could be hurting Waterman's conditioning. The fighters break. Ricco lands 2 solid overhand rights. Waterman is rocked. Left hook by Ricco! Waterman shoots in desperation, and they're back against the fence. Two big knees by Ricco! Another overhand right by Ricco, followed by yet another left hook that lands. Waterman looks gassed, as i predicted. Straight right by Ricco. Waterman appears to be gassed/rocked. Ricco is moving forward and backwards instead of circling. Ricco with a flying knee! I cannot believe Waterman survived the first round. Nearly a perfect round for Ricco. If not for the lengthy control in the first 2 minutes by Waterman, it'd be a 2 point round.

Round 1: Ricco 10-9

Waterman's corner and the referee decide he is unable to continue in Round 2.

Rodriguez defeats Waterman by TKO before Round 2.
ndhalogod
Tompkins is doing the intro/segway stuff.
bazookahead
wow... ricco impressed me by physically looking horrible against nog but having the gas, I just figured this was pushing it too far.. good win for ricco.. maybe now that his knee is rehab, he can make one more serious run... young dude..
ndhalogod
And there's our first racist comment of the night. Santore is up against the background (dark) during his entrance and Goldberg remarks, "Where is he? I can't see him. Har har har."

I like Salaverry in this one, too. Will Tito go 3-0?

A wild high kick and left hook to open the fight. Great right high kick by Salaverry! Left hook counter punch by Santore lands. Two good low kicks by Salaverry, and Santore is limping a bit. Good right hand by Santore and good low kick by Ivan. Good middle kick by Ivan and a right jab by Santore. Thai clinch and a perfect knee by Ivan. Salaverry is continually circling backwards and counter punching or lowkicking after Santore flails and misses. Nice high kick by Salaverry to end the round.

Round 1: Salaverry 10-9

Great jumping left hand by Santore to start the round. Left low kick by Salaverry. High kick by Salaverry. Solid combo by Santore. Salaverry gets caught by a head butt-trip and pulls Santore into his closed guard. Literally nothing happens and the fighters are stood up. Left middle kick by Salaverry. Left hook by Santore lands. Brutal right middle kick by Salaverry! Another brutal right middle kick. Right high kick followed by a lowkick onto Santore. Santore is staggered. Left high kick by Salaverry. Another left high kick by Salaverry. Right high kick by Salaverry!!! Left hook connects and basically KO's Santore. Ground and pound from the mount, and Cecil Peoples stops the fight. Santore is a bloody mess. In all honesty, the ref should've stopped it sooner. Brilliant striking display by Salaverry

Salaverry defeats Santore by 2nd Round TKO

Santore has a broken nose for sure. Santore smiles as blood trickles down his face after the fight. Maybe he has a future in pro wrestling?

Also, take note. All of the fans who bitched about the Marquardt-Salaverry fight being boring....this is why Marquardt refused to be aggressive.
bazookahead
sounds like a good fight... thanks for the pbp by the way..

Mayhem comes to the cage with a breakdancer performing to a rap song. He's accompanied by Josh Barnett. Maybe if he had this much self esteem outside of the arena, he wouldn't have to assault every guy who fucked his ex-girlfriend. On the plus side, Lodune Sincaid looks scared.

Mayhem attempts a flying knee. Miller has a solid Muay Thai clinch and lands elbows and knees. Great knee to the body by Mayhem. Lowkick by Miller. Mayhem tries for a sloppy guillotine. Good left hand by Sincaid. More thai clinch + knees by Miller. Miller pulls him down and surprises Sincaid from the clinch. Miller lands the hooks and takes rear mount position. Sincaid stands up. Miller loses the hooks but figure fours Sincaid's body. Miller lands lefts to the body, looking for either the RNC or to pressure Sincaid into getting an arm. Mayhem loses the body scissors and goes for a crucifix, but Sincaid rolls out. Miller locks the hooks in again. Sweep by Sincaid to Miller's half guard!!! Miller tries for a heel hook and Sincaid slips out. Miller again takes control of his back. Miller has a RNC in DEEP. Sincaid taps out.

Miller defeats Sincaid by Round 1 Submission

Mayhem does a Spin-a-rooni after the fight. What an impressive ground display.
bazookahead
so far favs dominating as expected...

Tank Abbott comes to ringside and says hi to Bill Goldberg. Yawn.
ndhalogod
Lyoto Machida versus Vernon "Losing Record" White is next. I expect White to come in aggressively and just get pummelled by the stronger, faster striker.

Machida with a very slow leg kick and Vernon White with a solid left hand and takedown! Machda attempts an omopalata. White stands up and baits Machida to stand up. Machida quickly rises. Big left straight and Vernon turns his back to Machida, but he fails to capitalize. Ewww. Straight left, and Vernon appears dazed. Good left counter by White. Quick right jab by Machida. Solid middle kick by Machida. Great straight left again by Machida. White was a lot more cautious than he was in earlier fights.

Round 1: Machida 10-9

Vernon lowers his head and eats a straight left by Machida. Nothing really happens for about a minute. Machida switches to right handed stance and lands a solid leg kick. Machida switches back to southpaw. Solid left by Machida. Good right by White. Left high kick by Machida. Great left low kick by Machida. Sweep by Machida. White pulls open guard. Machida lands a few elbows and hammerfists to end the round. The crowd is pissed because neither fighter wants to lose?

Round 2: Machida 10-9

Good sloppy right hand by White to start the round. Good middle kick by White. Solid low kick by Machida. Good right jab by Machida. Excellent takedown by Machida. Machida has side control. Machida tries weakly for a kimura and White breaks free. Machida jumps over into full mount. White gives him his back, but Machida keeps control. Machida locks both hooks in. White rolls towards Machida and gets an amazing textbook BJJ reversal to avoid the RNC!!! Machida actually lands some nice hammerfists from the guard. Good right hand by White. White and Machida each stand up. Machida throws White into the cage and the fight ends.

Round 3: Machida 10-9

Both fighters avoided the big brawling and KO fight. I actually really liked Vernon White's gameplan for the most part. But the precision of Machida's strikes, major damage to White's eye/face and 4 takedowns give Machida the easy decision victory, in my opinion.

ndhalogod scores it: 30-27 Machida

WFA Judges score it: 29-28, 30-27, 30-27

Machida defeats White by Unanimous Decision

surprised white is hanging in there...

Bas Rutten vs. Ruben Villareal is next. I expect Bas to gradually pick him apart with his superior striking and get a Round 2 TKO. Wow, Bas looks to be in AMAZING shape.

Villareal seems nervous, and Tank is cornering Warpath. Bas comes out decked in red and is jumping all over the place. Second huge pop of the nite by the crowd (first was for Miller).

Boom. Right, left combo by Bas to begin. Huge right hand again. Front kick by Bas. Rapid combo by Bas. Bas grimaces for some reason. Hopefully he didn't hurt his hands on those punches. Left hook to the body of Villareal. Villareal charges Bas and lands a decent right. Bas with another left hook. Right uppercut by Bas. Solid right leg kick by Bas. Left jab by Bas. Ruben charges Bas and actually lands a good sloppy right hand. Boom! Wicked leg kick by Bas that almost floors Ruben. Warpath has a terrible limp. LOL! That legkick was brutal! It hits him in the kneecap! Villareal is incapacitated.

Rutten defeats Villareal by 1st Round KO due to a Leg Kick

Bas almost looks apologetic after the fight as he taps gloves with Villareal and embraces him. Bas raises Warpath's hand. Props to Villareal for being a punching bag on two days notice. And is there a better guy in MMA than Bas?
ndhalogod
Tito Ortiz is in the front row with Jenna Jameson. That combo is a little better than Glamrock and Bruce Willis.
bazookahead
wow... one thing about warpath is he is durable and has heart... must have been a helluva leg kick...
ndhalogod
Matt Lindland vs. Quinton Jackson is next. I've been waiting to see this for a long time, as Rampage is my 2nd favorite MMA fighter. Rampage comes out in his patented camo with the chain and howls. He looks very focused. Josh Barnett is in his corner. Rampage looks pissed off. Lindland looks like he's about 20 pounds lighter, too. Solid staredown, but WFA missed the good shot with their shitty camera angle.

Immediately into over/under clinch. Rampage pins Lindland against the cage and goes for some right punches. OH MY GOD! Lifts him up and POWERSLAM! Lindland pulls half guard and gets Rampage in a weak guillotine attempt. Rampage may be looking for another slam as they rise to the same clinch position. Lindland lands several decent elbows. Rampage with a good knee to the body and Lindland pins Rampage against the cage. Jackson lands a right cross. POWERSLAM BY LINDLAND! Lindland attempts to take Jackson's back, and Rampage stands up. Jackson initiates the takedown and reverses into Lindland's half guard and Lindland re-reverses into back position again. Lindland going for a RNC! Lindland has it nearly sunk in!!!! Rampage is rolling!!! Can he recover???? He lifts up. OH MY GOD! That may have been the best reversal of a RNC I've ever seen. Rampage takes control in Lindland open guard and pounds down. That was one of the best rounds of fighting I've ever seen. Lindland by a small margin, due to sub attempts and nearly finishing the fight.

Round 1: Lindland 10-9

Lindland lands a solid left hook. Rampage is back into the clinch. WOW! Lindland misses the left hook but lands a left backfist on the follow-through. What a fight! Lindland pins Rampage against the cage in the clinch, but Rampage reverses. Rampage knees Lindland in the groin, but Lindland is fine. Good right hand and knee to the body by Rampage. Lindland attempts to reverse, but Rampage fights him off. OH MY GOD! Rampage is guillotined and slams Lindland literally right on his head! If that were any other fighter, he would've had it locked. Rampage takes side mount and lands several elbows. Lindland merely powers out of the sidemount and attempts a single leg takedown but settles on pressing Rampage against the cage. A right-left combination and Lindland is ROCKED! Rampage with the solid takedown into half-guard. Lindland goes for a kimura, but Rampage has control. Lindland with the reversal back into standing clinch against the cage! Lindland drops down looking for a takedown, but Rampage reemerges in the clinch. Solid right uppercut by Rampage. Solid left by Lindland. I give this round to Rampage based on the slams and superior standup.

Round 2: Rampage 10-9

Here we go in the deciding round. Middle kick by Lindland. Lindland presses Rampage back into the cage. Foot stomps by Lindland. Right hands to the body by Rampage. Good knee to the thigh by Lindland. Not much action in the clinch. Rampage reverses the clinch. Knee by Rampage to the body, and Lindland with an overhand right. The fighters separate. Left jab by Rampage. Big right hand by Rampage. Left high kick by Lindland gets blocked. Straight left by Lindland and he goes for a takedown. Sprawl by Rampage. Lindland with a guillotine and lands a knee. Rampage tries to go for a slam and Lindland leans back into a solid guillotine. Rampage tries to flip out. Oh no! Lindland locks his legs. Rampage pops his head out and has Lindland in open guard with a minute left. Rampage tries to create distance and throw some rights. Why isn't Rampage throwing any elbows here? Nasty cut on the bridge of Lindland's nose. Rampage lands 3 elbows and a right bomb! Rampage lands a knee as the final horn sounds. Damn. Very close round three. I may give it to Lindland by a hair, but if the judges go Rampage I won't mind.

Round 3: Lindland 10-9

ndhalogod scores it: 29-28 Lindland

WFA Judges score it: 29-28 Lindland, 29-28 Jackson, 29-28, Jackson 29-28

Jackson defeats Lindland by Split Decision

fuck... rough night for betting.. gatti and now this... had a big chunk on matt.. any ways, thanks again for a great pbp...
ndhalogod
Man oh man, props to Goldberg for basically accusing WFA of home-court advantage. The fighters are both very gracious and talk about a rematch.

I would encourage ANYONE who reads this to download or order this fight whenever possible. It is probably one of the 10 best fights I've ever seen. Granted that may be the present sense impression setting in, but I can promise you'll be entertained.

A pretty good card by WFA. We got to see some spectacular KO's, Bas coming back, and the ***** Rampage-Lindland fight. Put it this way, UFC 61 doesn't come close.

Oh, by the way. After the Bas fight, he announced he had injured his rib, Achilles, and shins in training, so he'll be taking some time off.
bazookahead
was an honest assesment by yourself, being a huge rampage fan... will have to wait to see the fight but sounds like wfa was protecting their biggest asset... hopefully there is a bright and long future for the WFA...
ndhalogod
Yeah, it was really damn close. It wasn't OUTRAGEOUS that they gave Round 3 to Rampage, but I thought Lindland definitely won. Either way, the fight was fucking awesome.

I went 4-0 in my bets, too.

Machida, McCullough, Salaverry, and Rampage.

I would've bet on Bas and Ricco, too, if fucking Pinny had the lines up.

I told you fat boy would win!! He basically hit Waterman at will with the same overhand right over and over but MAN IS HE FAT! You know how he had the relax fit spandex/girdle under his trunks when he fought Nog? Well, apparently the fatter he gets, the higher he wears the trunks b/c they were up around his nipples tonight. Anyhoo, shame on sportsbook.com for not carrying that fight.

You're being too kind. Lindland was ROBBED!! What did this guy do in his past life to warrant being shit on so consistently! Regardless I agree that the fight was far more exciting than I thought it would be and Lindland handled the move up in weight class much, much better than I had anticipated. For all intents and purposes, Bazook was right. If there was any justice tonight, you would have won your bet.

Well done on the pbp. Thanks so much!

still haven't seen the lindland fight; was a hard bet to lose, but still felt I handicapped it right and was on the right side.. without having seen it, can't say much, but just from reading accounts of it on the net, I can't help but wonder if it were two anonymous dudes fighting, that lindland would have gotten the nod the majority of the time...

horrible horrible betting weekend... hoping babalu can pick me up in august... he's holding at +295 for now but I'm thinking he'll end up in the 300's after the line is released on more sites...
Dabruin2
I seem to think that a lot of people lost money on the Lindland/Jackson fight. Betting on Babalu is a worse bet than Lindland IMO. Good luck.
bazookahead
dabruin, actually, the money was heavy on the rampage side... line on lindland started at +180 and ended at +243, meaning everyone was dumping on rampage... still haven't seen the fight so can't comment on the decision...

expect the liddell line to sway the same way in his favor... reading a lot about how babalu can't win... usually not too influenced by internet opinion, but there are a few guys I respect that are throwing down big time on chuck... should be a great fight..
JoeyArkenstat
anyone have a rapidhare etc. link to the rampage fight?
