It's in the Daily News...
Quote:
News director Liz Aiello has left Howard 100 News, the news operation run by Howard Stern at Sirius Satellite Radio, to become the vice president and general manager of Martha Stewart Living Radio. The former WABC/Ch. 7 news producer - and wife of WCBS/ Ch. 2 correspondent Tony Aiello - will oversee the revamp of the Sirius channel under the Stewart banner.... |

Well I wouldn't be shocked. She was hired to do a job. She hasn't been allowed to do that job since 1/9/06 and the listeners are not happy with the product and it would appear she isn't happy either.
Most of us hate the NEWS because the stories are stupid. The stories are stupid because that is the direction " the power(s) that be have moved it into" .
All you need is Steve, He has the best schtick of the whole department , and he gets it. I would levy the guess that you will never hear from George Flowers again as well. |

It's Howards fault, but yep other than Steve's comic relief it is pointless. Howard destroyed his own news department with censorship oddly enough. When was the last time you heard a REAL story done about Howard on the news?? |

| I think the whole news team is irratating, mainly, Crone and Lisa G. I also find it irratating how they, during the repeats, chime in during the show with updates, but give out information that hasn't yet been divulged on the replays. |

It isn't a "failure."
H100 News served its purpose. Howard needed to fill air time on H100 in the months between it being activated and him being able to take to the air.
Thru H100 News' interviews with significant others -- especially during the 3 weeks between the last live KROCK show and 01.09.06, Howard and the rest of the cast could let the fans know what they were planning, how excited they were and how hard they were working for the first day at the new place.
H100 also gave them a tool to involve the fans and increase interest and enthusiasm in Sirius, which was new to 99% of us -- and an excuse to talk about H100 while they were still at KROCK.
Unfortunately, because there was nothing else filling the air -- and especially when they weren't doing show replays, they burned the news out the same way ABC burned out Regis's Millionaire: Overexposure.
It didn't help that Howard's control impulses went into full force and curtailed some of the material and revelations that H100 might otherwise have mined -- although it was never Howard's intention that they'd become paparazzi-like and invade the casts' private lives; they probably did cross the line in reporting Beth's Valentine gift before Howard had a chance to give it to her.
I still like the news breaks but I fear that H100 has run its course. How long can legitimate journalists be expected to play along with what is literally a mockery of radio news? |

The problem with the news department is that it lost its purpose over time. The stories are stupid, and their reporting becomes redundant to what went on in the studio. Christ, Gene Simmons is in the studio for an hour talking with Stern and then he has to go out in the hallway and face that Jizz Bomb Lisa G and her "hard hitting" questions. He probably stuffed her the ten spot just to get her to shut the fuck up.
The Howard News happens everyday in the studio. That is more than enough. |

It's a failure to those who lost their job, quit, or were fired. I don't thnk they would have put all the effort into the department if it was just planned as a bridge between testicle and Sirius. |

Less people like you on this board would be a good thing.
Back on topic: I hate High Pitch Mike (he was such a dick when he won the TV), but they should only keep him as long as they can do humilating things to him on the air. Listening to him get angry and all full of himself is hysterical. |

Which members of the news staff were courted away from longstanding, "secure" jobs in the industry?
It's my recollection that, like Penny Crone, the H100 News staff was made up of radio and TV journalists between jobs. They got work and Howard got legitimate journalists for his parody of "news."
I don't think they started H100 News as some kind of stopgap. If it still worked and was a vital part of Howard's programming they wouldn't have started letting people go at the end of May.
H100 and H101 are works in progress. If something works, they'll keep it. If it doesn't, it'll be phased out.
The remaining staff members are probably keeping their eyes and ears open for other opportunities at Sirius (as Liz did) and, if they're smart, are getting their resumes out there. |

As far as I'm concerned the H100 News became a joke when they busted Sal by calling his wife and ratting him out. Howard went ballistic on the Wrap Up Show and then Liz cme in having a hissy fit about how they don't know what their guidelines are in reporting the "news". At that point it became clear that these guys couldn't figure out that they were no longer doing legit news, they were doing Howard News, and they couldn't treat everything like fucking 9/11!!! Only Shuli and Steve seem to get it! The day those guys put on those ugly yellow jackets, they became entertainment reporters, not hard news investigators.
It's boring, it's played out and they are now all starting to realize there's no future. |
|

I think that all the coverage in the beginning of the Show was a perfect way of helping to raise the excitement level, thus resulting in more people buying the Sirius units. As programming expanded, their roles as "newscasters" became less important and there's been less to do. I don't know if it was planned to phase-out, but I think the onslaught at the beginning was great marketing!
I like the newsbreaks. I wish I didn't keep hearing the same ones though. I guess it's a matter of when you tune in. |

Since they've done away with the noon news hour, I wish they'd use H100 News as part of the breaks during the live Stern show (as well as replays), and do away with the news "previews."
In other words, instead of Lisa G. waiting outside to say what they're going to say, end the hourly commercial breaks with an "H100 News Brief." |
