ive never really liked any sort of music on the radio, but i did like the music stations that sirius had when i first got it..i listen to pretty obscure stuff so i liked left of center and alt nation most of the time, but over time, i realized that really they sorta just rehash the same songs over and over like FM radio..
my sirius plug and play just sorta sits in my car off to the side and ill have my mp3 player plugged in to my stereo..i really prefer just my ipod or zen set on shuffle...i think music on the radio is dead what with file sharing programs and itunes so user friendly and dsl at like 30 bucks a month...
maybe sirius should have a station where subscribers can send in an hour of random songs from their mp3 players...
because howard is worth the 13 bucks, but the music stations are lacking that sorta underground music feel...i mean theres no good real metal station and theres not even a punk station...and the indie station is pretty horrible...its just like belle and sebastian over and over...
i just felt like ranting, all you people that appreciate good music lemme know what you think and if theres a station i should check out.. |

| i agree about left of center... they play some good stuff, but they repeat lame new songs a lot. i recommend cbc radio 3 on channel 94. i hear a lot more good obscure stuff on this channel... the drawback is that they play a lot of canadian music and it makes me feel a little un-patriotic. |

| I agree. I think the music stations could be better. Most of them do play the same songs over and over and they don't go very deep into the artist's catalogues. They play a lot of the same "hits" you hear on FM just without the commercials. I tend to listen to music on Sirius that I never could get on FM, like the Blues channel, RadioMargaritaville, and The Rolling Stones channel. |

| I only really listen for howard. But of course there are other good shows like Miserable Men, Kill or Be Killed, Farrell, and Bubba, and I've even been getting into Superfan Roundtable. That's pretty good considering you get Howard Stern Show for about 5 hours a day too. I was sick of the music stations before howard got here and I wouldn't continue just for the music so I'm glad Howard is here now. But it is also another bonus and wayy better than FM. Oh yea there is also Bruer Unleashed and Bam Margera has a crazy show with all his heroin buddies on Faction on mondays. |

What gave you the impression that SIRIUS was gonna have a grip-load of 'Alternative' music?
I've always enjoyed music on the radio, and I love SIRIUS.

The music on Sirius is excellent. Who gives a shit if they repeat songs? That's why they have a million goddamn channels. There's only so much music out there to play, especially when you don't have to fill 40 minutes an hour with commericals.

Ummm. There are 12 months in the year and he gets 10 weeks vacation. It looks like you don't have to worry about that.
For years he's taken the week of Memorial Day, two weeks at the 4th of July and the week before Labor Day, as well as three-day weekends in the summer.
The only change this year is he's taken a second week in August (the better to use the $600K summer rental in the Hamptons while he and Beth0 build a dream house there).
He took off the first week of January and a week in March. If he sticks with the same schedule he had at KROCK, they'll take a week at Thanksgiving and the last two weeks of 2006, number challenged n00b :hw: |

what are you talking about theres only so much music out there to be played?..thay only play 1 or 2 songs from one album that means theres about 11 or 12 more songs on that same album they could play..
plus the bootlegged stuff, b-sides, and the other 6 albums that artist has released....they have plenty of stuff to chooses from...im sure theres hundreds of records released every week...and they probably get sent all of them... |

Mainstream is better! :D
I listen to HARD ATTACK during the times when I don't listen to 100 or 101.
Times like: the 302nd replay of the same show, Ralphiecakes, and now the recently released Lee Morosiak [sp?].
C'mon, Man!
HARD ATTACK is the official station of SLAYER! :bwtd:
(I feel ya', Bro. I was into the So Cal Punk scene in the late '80s/early '90s. I've burnt out the Punk Rock flame that used to burn inside me...) |

I initially felt the same way when I first got my Sirius ... however, I learned that in general, whether free or not, music without commericals is pivotal.
I'd recommend that you check out some of the other stations on Sirius, becasue there's a shitload of them.
Try Octane for more rock music -- Backspin is cool as hell too -- a bunch of old '90s hip-hop, you know, back when rap was actually good -- it's uncensored too
Also, with the terrorist plot foiled yesterday, the news talk stations are interesting to listen to right now as well. |

and im only bitching because it will just get worse and when satellite radio is the norm in 5 or 10 yrs, itll be just like regular fm radio...
this should be satellite radios goldenage....not the same sublime song a couple times a day on alt nation or that annoying shins song that caught on because it was on garden state 40 times a day on left of center, you feel me?
and i bitch because i dont get off for another hourand work is boring... |

That's a good point, what one business really has had their finger on anything, er, "underground." Usually when they do, it's too late...
Anyway, they could do a better job at running a bit deeper with what they've got going...I would LOVE to see a few channels open-up for the truly alternative/progressive tunes going on in some of the skank clubs, in the major cities... |

Maybe suggest some songs for the Sirius channels to play? I know they have some feedback e-mail account set up. Maybe if enough of us e-mail them, they will start playing a more diverse list of artists.
You have to remember though -- these channels are projected to Mainstream, USA. So it's definitely going to be hard to please people from Los Angeles, Calif. to Shitfuck, Idaho. |

Ok, Ok, I'll volunteer to take over music programming for all Sirius Stations. Mel and Tim called me last night in a panic. So I guess its up to me to save the day.
I'm adding Zydeco, A Willie Nelson Station, Frank Sinatra, a FUNK(As in Parliament Funk) station, a Tex Mex station, a Live DJ station, and a VH1 Station. how's that for starters? |
|
|
| lemmiwinks |
and one more thing...why is there an all elvis station and an all stones station, but no all beatles station..
my god that alone would be worth the 13 bucks and you wouldnt have to read my stupid thread because id be content with my beatles and howard... |

So true, so true. There's a reason they put these songs deep into the CDs, cause the producers know they're not as good. Of course, there are exceptions, but for the most part it's true. Only a hardcore fan of an artist might listen to these deeper songs. |
