I got an XACT VIZOR for christmas last year, and that has been my main receiver all this time. I use it indoors at home and at work. Its Modulator is awesome, sending out a signal over a large area. Recently, I bought one for my wife's car, but use the FM out direct cable for the best signal. I've noticed the Modulator is not as strong on the VIZOR as the one I received last year. Did XACT redo the modulators on the nbewer models?

I think the FCC was investigating these units with to much power. So what they did was just turn them down. I know Xm got busted big time for this. Maybe xact just got on the ball before they got busted too.

Yes, several of the satellite radios(from both XM and Sirius) were outside the FM transmitter strength limits set by the FCC. Both companies were asked by the FCC to stop production until they brought the FM transmitters within spec. They got busted! That's why you're noticing a weaker signal. The best long-term solution for any receiver is to do a direct hardwired connection to the car's headunit. If you don't want any outside interference, this is the ultimate solution.

What I did was bought a head unit for my car that had a Aux line in jack in the front. That is the only way to go. Living in LA there are no open freQs

I think you mean that you're using the "Audio Out" jack now. The "FM out" jack is for hooking up a small antenna to boost the FM transmitter. You can make a cheap signal booster by getting a cell-phone earpiece/headset with the small 2.5mm plug...get a cheap one from the local 99cent/junk store. Just clip off the earbud and plug the wire into the "FM out" jack and you're good to go.

You can also make your own (if you know how to solder) from a 2.5mm mono-plug from Radio Shack and a 28-31 inch piece of wire.

Search the back pages of this "4 Sirius" forum. There were alot of posts about tweaking modulator stuff in January...everybody getting the most out of their christmas presents.
