I couldn't listen to my sirius all day yesterday or today because my sirius said no antenna detected. Annoying as hell but anybody have/had this problem and what can I do to fix it?
EatsLikeArtie
Plug in your antenna
AngryAccountant
Plug it in or check to see if the wire is broken.
ItsBigForty
Check out my thread here. Same fucking problem. Car antennas are designed poorly.

Oh yes, I've had that before on my XAct equipment. Had to buy a new one.
SHUA1973
I had the same problem and after many attempts to fix it I just sent the unit back to Sirius and they sent me a new one.

DryOatmeal
try putting some tin foil on the antenna or try one of those wire coat hangers

Mr. Pibb
Can it be sodered together?
ItsBigForty
Everyone I know has had this problem or you can see that the wire is about to break. I called customer support and they have changed the warranty on all antennas to 1 month.

$30.00 fucking dollars.

Yes. Remove the sticker from the bottom. There are star shaped screws to remove. It is a little tricky because it is a shielded cable and you need a real small soldering tip.

Thank God I worked in electronics.
ItsBigForty
Sounds like I may have a good business to start.

reconditioned antennas for $15

sounds good to me, mine is about 7 months old
ItsBigForty
Yeah mine is from December. I didn't even have it mounted outside of my car. It was on the dash because my defroster grill is metal. So it wasn't mopving and no stress on the wire.

Just crap.

same here.
it was working one day before I left for work. when I got home it said not detected. luckily, I have a backup that doesn't work quite as well, but it works. so I used that while waiting for the replacements.
moodmd
The technology is really Stoneage if you think about it. I bet it keeps a lot of people from signing on.

I am constantly dicking with things to keep it going.
breach
that would suck if mine went.. not only would i have to pay the 30 for a new one... but i had it professionally installed so that it goes inside my dash so that its not a hanging wire. so that would cost me another 30 or more just to have that done again.

I think they might all be the same, I have one exact from my visor, and the other is a sirius brand from my starmate
mertalert
This seriously sucks! I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling soon and I NEED my sirius. Again, this sucks!
lilbuddy67
That's weird, I have never had any problems. In fact, if I leave my radio at home on, I can still get reception for about 2 blocks in my car.
mrspoopypants
Just had it happen to me yesterday. Don't know why, but need a new one. Goddamn cheap ass Sirius equipment

Not sure if they have them at Radio Shack.

There is a guy that sells them in Ebay for 0.99 with 18.95 shipping. I think he has a stock pile of them but ships them standard USPS.

The exact same thing happened to me. Had to buy the whole car kit again as replacement antennas for the JVC car kit aren't available. Brutal.

Then a week later, my home unit suddenly flashes antenna not detected. And that's a mounted antenna that doesn't move. Looking to drop another $40-$50 for a replacement that may or maynot fix the problem. Thank god for streaming.
mochinist
I had the same message, it wasnt my antenna though it was my sportser replay, it wouldnt work in my car kit or home kit, only worked in my boombox for some odd reason. Anyways I didnt want to wait for sirius to replace my old replay so I bought a new one and transfered the account and now will send in the old one.
strider_mt2k
My Radio Shack and possibly others have had reconditioned Sirius Radios for sale at very low prices.

Lower than the cost of a replacement antenna, and they include a completely new mounting kit INCLUDING the antenna and power cables. (the two most needed)

Keep an eye out at your local store, or ask 'em if they have them.
artiefan711
i plug my antenna in and then wrap it around my starmate three times and pull it tight, i will take a pic later, its pretty ghetto!
aJ.
has happened to me a few times but then finds the signal no problem
Raiders fan
i don't have a starmatebut do have a sportster and i was gettingthe same problems took it off my windshield and haven't had that problem since. once you install the antenna stop moving the more you touch it the more chances it has to break.
HS525
have you paid your electric bills lately?
EastBayLoon
I had to buy a new one after several months. But this one has worked fine so far..........
Mr. Pibb
If you can't find a replacement at one of the retail stores, check a truck stop. I know that Petro stops carry satellite equipment. The Petro in Bordentown, NJ actually has a huge Sirius sign out under their main sign.

turn it off and on, or unplug it once
mertalert
I bought a new antenna today at Circuit City for 39.99. I'm back in business but a little poorer for the effort Hope this doesn't become a habit that I must do.
timdawg6
Mertalert Ive had the same problem twice, I guess they are good for about a year

I very carefully took the antenna apart. Cut the wire just past where it was broken, Slipped it out of the strain relief, slipped a piece of radio shack shrink tube over it, drilled out the strain relief so the shrink tube would slide in, re soldered the connection, screwed the unit back togeher.

This worked great until the wire broke in a different location. I kept doing this until now I only have about 6 feet of wire left. If you do this, make sure the gasket is intact or water will leak in. If the gasket is broken you'll have to use some RTV.

The whole thing shouldn't take more than an hour.
swaggerprance
I've had the same problem the last couple of days. I'm on my second antenna in 6 months. Yes, they do break at the point shown in the photo, as my first one did. This one has no visible break, just keep going in and out of "antenna not detected". ARGH! I was thinking it was a weird satellite thing.

Welcome to the club! You're one step away from "acquiring signal"

2 weeks ago I had EXACTLY the SAME broken antenna same place as in the pic, luckily my original sirius radio broke 2 months after warranty and I had to buy a new one. Trials and tribulations of sattelite, and a good example of people having to replace product

My little 12W Weller pencil is perfect for this shit. Model WM120, I think it was about $30 10 years ago.

Got a new antenna from TSS Radio in Chicago --$24 free shipping .Had to buy a new antenna because a delivery guy ran it over.I work in a machine shop with no windows so I had to set it outside the door on the ground. My new antenna I attached to the top of an orange road cone

The windshield cracked late in June, just a year after I had the Alpine installed (with the
Sirius adapter). Had $700 worth of body work done (the metal between the roof and
ceiling had rusted completely through: faulty windshield replacement 8 years before).
New windshield was installed, antenna failed: on the drive home from the body shop.
I tried attaching a different antenna, still had antenna not detected. Picked up an
entirely new unit ($99). Had it installed (another $100).

It was all worth it. The car still gets almost 50 MPG, and I enjoy every minute of H100.

I had no idea that the show could actually get better, but it sure has since they moved
to Sirius.

:)

My car antenna broke a couple weeks ago and tried to mess around with it, but last night I fixed it.

I took off the sticker off and unscrewed the screws with one of the sides of a wire cutter because I don't have a star screwdriver. the wire looks like a mini version of cable wire so I peeled the wire to have about an 1" exposed wire on both ends and then pushed the oustide wire down and took 1/2" of the inside wire and exposed that... twisted the inside wires together and the outside wires together... taped them up inside the antenna with some slack so that it doesn't pull apart the twisted wires... slit the bottom of the big plasic thing that wires come out from on the end of the antenna and pulled out the piece of wire there and slid it over my new wire connection.. screwed it all back up and it works the same as before.

If the inside and outside wire touch you'll get the aquire signal, but will never pick up a signal... if you don't have it connected at all... it will just say no antenna detected... took me like 20min tops, but that was trying to figure out what everything does and what not
howies5incher
been through 5 of them since July 05 for antenna separation.I salvaged one that was severed at mid wire, but I didn't know they could be saved at the tail as well.

TSS-radio has them for 23 free ship,or circuit city has them for 34 + tax..

I went through two cheap antennas and finally broke down and bought the "Monster" cable brand antenna for about $60 on amazon. It works perfectly, definately worth the extra money.

I had to get the 50 foot one, and draped it out my window and its now sitting on my deck. I live up against a woods and I found one spot that works. After that, not a bit of a problem.
