I've been trying since yesterday to swap a new starmate for my old one, so I called sirius to activate. I was told to try back tomorrow because the system is updating. So I tried again today 24 hours later and was told the same story, try back in the morning.

whats up with that- trying to activate for 48 hours now!

has anyone else had trouble with sirius lately?

just buy a new one, starmates are old now...and there is a forum for this type of thing...

I have great luck calling when the "computers are down". It always involves changes to my account that make me pay less. I've never experienced this when upgrading my account to one in which I pay more. :bigthink:

Ever bought a unit direct from SIRIUS? Well don't. If you are planning on buying a second unit, get it from a local merchant. I'll tell you why.
I bought 2 radios. One at a local merchant and one from SIRIUS.COM . This one, the SV-1 started acting up and i called SIRIUS. Filed a claim and was told to wait.
Waited 1 whole month until an email arrived, telling me that they did not have the original radio and they would give another model in exchange. Either take it or wait until whenever. That's basically what the email said. So i took it.
Week later, the replacement arrived. It's the Sportster IV. Well, tried to install it and due to it's size and shape, it was impossible to install it anywhere, excpet on the windshield. Which is not a good place. It stays on the way and its display lights hits the windshield (at night), making some light reflection.
So i called SIRIUS and asked for an exchange. Nothing else. Even for a cheaper unit.
Well, good ridance. They told me "sorry, nothing we can do for you". SHit outta luck, in other words.
Now, i had to write a letter to their Customer Service, explain the whole thing and see what it can/could be done.
The point is : DO NOT BUY ANY RADIO FROM SIRIUS. Like i said before, get it from a local merchant.
By the way, the people from SIRIUS, i talked to were the following :
Erica (Id #66446) and her supervisor, T.J. (ID # not provided). Also, i spoke with a third person, whom refused to identify himself....

...well, check this Sirius crap out. I bought a Sirius Jam Pack in November 2003, and paid in advance for a full year's service. Then in March 2004 I indicated I wanted to upgrade to a Lifetime Subscription. Put aside the money to pay for it -- then my daughter stole it. I called Sirius and explained the problem to them. They put a fucking $75 penalty on the account and suspended the service I'd already paid for in advance! After that, while I was in the hospital for heart surgery, my daughter's pond scum boyfriend steals the Sirius receiver and, since the thing won't work, smashes it. Hard feelings all around and advising my friends for two years not to bother with Sirius because of their ripping me off. Then they hire Howard, so I decide to give them a second shot. Called their sales office two weeks ago to see if the account could be salvaged. I was told there was enough left on the account to still get three months of service provided I get a new receiver. Fine. This morning I buy a receiver -- and now Sirius refuses to activate the fucking thing because they don't have a credit card number on my account! Hey jackoffs, I don't fuck with credit cards, if I don't have the money to pay for the money order to clear the bill I simply don't buy it. And the sales fuck specifically told me two weeks back all I had to do was get the new reciever, not a bloody thing about any credit cards! THEY ALREADY HAVE THE GODDAMNED MONEY! Well, I can still get Howard TV while the State Attorney General's Office can sort this Sirius shit out. Fucking goddamned ripoffs...

I swear, it's pure fucking luck that some people get it to work right and others don't. That's why I get scared every time I buy something like a new car, a house, whatever, because it feels like it's just a hit or miss thing if it works for you or not. I feel bad for you guys.

SIRIUS customer service is THE WORST IN THE WORLD.

The absolute WORST. Period.

If you plan on subscribing to SIRIUS for Howard Stern, please make sure that you become familiar with the receivers, visit the helpful forums at siriusbackstage.com, etc because you will have to solve all of your problems yourself. Also, if your receiver craps out on you, just buy a new one. Sucks, I know, but SIRIUS customer service sucks even more. They are clueless and tell you anything just to get you off of the phone. LIES. For example, they are being FLOODED with phone calls right now about this last channel update. Only a small few received the Canadian channels that should have been update. Yet they continue to pretend that they have no idea that this is going on and have no answer.

I wish Howard would have went with XM. SIRIUSly.

Did you try to update it online? I have added 2 more radio's to my account that way.

...okeh, looks like I got a shit-for-brains operator *and* supervisor this morning. Called back and got someone who thought in more than one dimension. Got the stuff cranked up FINALLY. Unfortunately, they seem to need a ton of work on training their operators. The pinhead back at 4:30 this morning assumed I only wanted the quarterly subscription and put it in the database that way. Never brought up the different plans at all. Got the yearly cranked up when I called this noon hour. Someone really needs to get the stuff done right over there; I'll bitch loudly when I get ticked off but I'll put up with more than most by the time it gets to that point...
