I just got my 3rd XTR1 today...it only took a month for Xact to replace the 2nd one which only lasted about 6 months. The XTR1 is an older design & might be more prone to failures than others...

My question is: What's the average life span of XTR1's? My average is now down to about 9 months per unit...whaaaah! :p

At least I can hear the show again!

Hey CM....

Im pretty sure I found why they die so easy...

The led display puts out a shitload of heat comparable to the available ventilation on the unit

SO it overheats and fries quite fast usually

Ive found only 1 solution......adjust both your brightness and contrast down to the absolute minimum...thats the only thing that worked for me...I went thru 3 of em til I tried this

Been close to a year now and all is well

I am happy to say I still have my first one, and its been almost 22 months.

Its starting to die now, power button & menu don't work. The keys do not light up, and some other keys only work when they want, I have to use the controller now.

I am waiting for the starmate 4 to come out and I will replace my XTR1

Yeah I knew that trick already...I think the heat is the most likely culprit with the XTR1's...mine spend half of the day in my work vehicle on the dash so they do get cooked. Well now I have a return account with XACT so if this one dies within warranty I'll get a replacement with less trouble. But I guess I better buy another new one to keep in reserve so I don't miss The Show! ;)

I bought one on clearance. It does get very hot. I am going to turn down the led and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice.

I've had mine 8 months. I have an antenna in the home, car, and a portable one for the fitness center or when out in the yard, so it is reconnected a few times every day. The connectors are wearing out. I have to fiddle with the power connecter to get it started and it may just quit while driving and I have to push, pull and twist the power connector to restart it. Same problem but less frequent with the antenna connector.
Anyone had this problem and figured out a resolution?

garbage. I went thru 3 in eight months. Go buy a Starmate.

I have the stream Jockey, it gets pretty hot but seems ok. I use it pretty much all day!! The one problem I have are the antennas. I have gone through 3 of them. They replace them but I have to wait 3 weeks to get it. PAIN IN THE ASS!

my first one crapped out just this month after 22 months. They sent me a replacement within a week. I sent them a check for 40 and the broken unit. I was surprised how quickly the new one arrived.

Mine has lasted since Nov last year. It's almost a year.

It does boil! The display will go blank sometimes but if I turn it off and back on it works fine!

I'm very happy with it. It's on from 6am-6pm daily 7 days a week! Sometimes it's on for days straight! I had a friend lose his in 3 months though.

Mine is out of warranty by 4 months. Problems started Saturday, and it is going downhill.

I've really only got heavy use out of it for about 8 months. Seven months before internet streaming (and since Howard started on Jan. 9th), and for the last three weeks since my computer died.

I am without the show right now.

I got the lifetime-of-the-unit sub. I am hoping that Sirius will waive the $75 fee for switching to another unit, even though it is out of warranty.

I hate to pay Xact any more money, but I guess the replacement unit would have a new one-year waranty, and I will be sure to purposely use it heavily so it will flake out while still in warranty.

I am very disappointed with Xact, but I have the boombox and all the accessories. I can't really afford to switch to another non-Xact unit right now.
