I got my dad a sportster for his B-day and I want to install it in his classic 74 Dodge van tomorrow. Only problem is, he doesn't have a cigarette lighter in the van. Does anyone know how to install one? Is there a kit I can buy?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

What you may want to do is check with a radio store to see if there is a way to wire the unit directly to the fuse box. There has to be a way to do this.
Or buy a newer vehicle..... |

I had my Starmete wired directly into my Jeep Wrangler, can still take the receiver out and stuff, but had to buy an extra antenna & power cord to use it in my work truck.
So, yes, you can wire it into the car without a cigarette lighter - just cut off the plug, strip the wires, and connect them to a 12 volt power source in the dash.. Watch the polarity.
One nice thing now is when I turn the car on or off, my receiver comes on or off with the car. |

wal-mart sells a cigarette adapter plug kit with a 20 ft lead for around 10 bucks. In the automotive section by the trailer connetions and hitches.I connected it directly to he battery in my big rig and can use the plug no problem.
I am sure he kit can be wired to the fuse box if it's in the cabin of the car.
