Growing up in Iowa, we had warnings all the time, had one come 1/4 mile close to our house. I was 8 at the time and I have never feared anything more than that since. Here in Az tornados occur but are rare. Micro bursts occur more often or wind damage from monsoonal dust storms. |

Imagine a metropolis like Phx, it has no drainage system. 3" a year is the average. When the rains come it funnels thru the streets to a canal system. |

When we do get the rains, it funnels thru the streets to a canal system either run by Central AZ Project (CAP) or Salt River Project. But the canal runoffs go thru roadways and flash flood instantly. |
