This is Herbert's 253 start and the 18th time he has qualified number eight. This Grubnic's 298th round of eliminations and 18th time he qualified number nine. Herbert lost traction early and pedaled it a couple times, but couldn't get it to hook up. Grubnic said on the top end interview that it bang the blower in the lights or lost the blower belt.

(L) Melanie Troxel (Skull Gear/Torco Dragster) 0.081 4.567 328.70
Fuller has a four to one advantage in head to head match ups. Melanie total win-lost record is 64-56 and this is the eighth time she has qualified in the number seven position. Fuller's overall record is 43-73. Fuller is out of the gate first and has the power to hold on for the hole shot win. Rod Fuller's MOV: 0.0301 seconds (approximately 15 feet).

This is McClenathan's 84th different driver and his overall win-lost record is 387-270. This is Torrence's second race and he has qualified in the 11th position at both races. Torrence with career best runs to qualify here. He has the starting line advantage and then around 330 feet McClenathan has the lead, but then dropped a cylinder or two. Torrence drove around him for his first round win in a Top Fueler.

(L) Larry Dixon (Miller Lite Dragster) 0.130 4.666 313.66
This is the third time Todd has qualified number three and he beat Dixon the only time they have raced. Dixon won this race in 2002 and his overall win-lost record is 418-220. Todd with a big starting line advantage and never looked back to take the win. He is the first one to win from the top half of the ladder. Todd with the quickest pass of round one, so far. Todd will have lane choice against his new teammate in the next round.

(L) Mike Strasburg (B & J Transmissions Dragste 0.095 5.030 209.65
This is the 35th time Schumacher has qualified number one and the 13th time this year. He is the defending event champion, and holds a two to one advantage in head to head match ups. The only round win Strasburg has was against Schumacher in round one of Denver in 2002. Schumacher with a great pass here as he runs the quickest pass of round one. Strasburg was mixing up cylinders on the top end. Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.848 sec., 330ft-2.144, 660ft-3.051/277.43mph, 1,000ft-3.818 Schumacher will have lane choice against Grubnic in round two.

Bernstein has qualified for 76 race in a row. This is Baca's 74th race and these two have raced eight times with each of them winning four times. Bernstein with the starting line advantage and a great looking pass for the win. Baca was on a really good looking pass until right in the lights when the engine went away. Then the chutes never came out and right before he went into the sand he slid sideways and to a stop perfectly. There is oil in Baca's lane and that will cost him 15 points and $8500. Bernstein will have lane choice over Fuller in round two.
(W) Hillary Will (KB Racing Dragster) 0.109 4.565 324.12
(L) Alan Bradshaw (Bill Miller Engineering/Okum 0.071 4.613 321.35
Will has qualified for all 22 races this year, and this is Bradshaw's tenth start. Bradshaw did his job on the starting line and had the lead until just before 1000 feet when Will was able to chase him down. This was a great drag race. Hillary Will's MOV: 0.0102 seconds (approximately 5 feet).
(W) Doug Kalitta (MAC Tools Dragster) 0.064 4.581 325.45
(L) Bob Vandergriff (UPS Dragster) 0.108 4.689 320.13
Kalitta won this race in 2004, and his overall record is 311-173. He holds a seven to five advantage over Vandergriff. This is Vandergriff's 146th start. Kalitta's car is back to the normal red Mac Tools livery today after running the yellow Von Dutch Mac Tools colors Friday and Saturday. Kalitta with a big starting line advantage and good clean pass for the win. He will give up lane choice to Will in the next round. Vandergriff started mixing up cylinders just before half track. |
