http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2654565 Too bad it didn't work out for him, he has had as much success as anyone at Iowa State. He was a very likeable media friendly guy and probably would do an interview with Ferrall. Iowa State is a very hard place to recruit to and it has to compete with Iowa for what few D1 prospects Iowa has.

I'm a little surprised too,,,, McCarney couldnt do what Bill Snyder did with KState, another division I nobody until the '90s, but he may have been the face of IowaState sports, and not sure if he would be in line for a spotlight job like MiamiF, UCLA, PennState (3 very possible job openings on the horizon)

There are rumors floating already that McCarney will be the new defensive coordinator at Miami under Barry Alvarez. McCarney was the defensive coordinator under Alvarez at Wisconsin. Donna Shalala, the president at Miami, was chancellor at Wisconsin and she hired Alvarez in 1990.

I really hope this is not true.

Why the fuck would Barry Alvarez come out of retirement for that train wreck of a program? He's perfectly happy as the AD @ Wisky.

I know Barry has already said that his time for another opportunity may have passed. He is revered by us Badger fans. His successor, Bret Bielema, has done a great job this year.

But, the Barry to Miami rumors have been flying for two months already and he has not denied anything. He also admitted in his new book that he was very close to leaving for Miami in 2001.

He could go for a few reasons: He respects Donna Shalala, she gave him his big coaching break, she can probably get him an insane amount of money, he would probably be AD at Miami also, and for the chance to turn around the Miami program. He turned the Badger program around in 4 years. He could probably turn around Miami in 2 to 3 years and then turn it over to someone who has coached or played under him i.e. McCarney, Bill Callahan, Brad Childress, Darrell Bevell.

Both guys coached at Iowa as well, so they have been together for a while
