alas, my cubbies seemed to have had him slip away. :(

ESPN says he's the best all around position player available this offseason. heard the Angels and Dodgers will spend tons.

Ramirez was a great player. Not sure he's worth what he's asking, though. And possibly a really stupid part on his decision, since we're totally rebuilding this team for the better. That, and I can guarantee he won't find fan love anywhere else like he found here

the good news is that will open up our payroll even more to pursue Soriano or C. Lee and replace Ramirez with a cheapie like belliard.
will also leave us payroll for more starting pitchers.

Cubs agree to new deals with Ramirez, Wood

CHICAGO -- The Cubs agreed to a five-year contract with third baseman Aramis Ramirez and a one-year deal with pitcher Kerry Wood on Sunday -- both returning to Chicago after becoming free agents.

Ramirez, who opted out of an initial four-year, $42 million dollar he signed in 2005, will now be with the Cubs through 2011. There is a mutual option for 2012.

He had career highs in homers (38) and RBI (119) last season. In three-plus season with the Cubs, Ramirez has batted .298 with 12 homers and 353 RBI.

Wood, the 1998 NL rookie of the year, has been bothered by arm problems throughout his career. The 29-year-old right-hander made just four starts last season and has been rehabbing a torn rotator cuff.

The team initially had a $13.75 million option on Wood for 2007. In his fifth major league start, Wood struck out 20 batters against Houston. Wood has a 71-55 career record in 178 starts and is expected to return to the team as a relief pitcher.

Wow...didnt think this was going to happen. wonder what the final amounts were for.
good to see Kerry coming back too....bullpen now strong with Eyre, Howry AND Wood.
Lee and Ramirez make a good 1-2 punch.

Ramirez signed a 5 year $73 million deal and Wood signed a 1 year $1.75 million deal worth up to $6 million in incentives.

cubs still suck

Wood blows cock. They're just making it worse for everyone by retaining him...should have let him get away, forget that situation, and try to start anew. Bad move by resigning a pitcher who can only be described as a lost cause of potential with poor mechanics. Horrid move on the Cubs part.
