Anybody with eyes and half a brain would know the answer to this question. What a bullshit call. I turned the game off after that shit. I knew where it was going after that.
The Raiders are the best 2-9 team I've ever seen. |

While the call was questioned on the field, NFL Supervisor of Officials Mike Pereira confirmed to ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the call was correct -- and not without precedent.
It is illegal to intentionally fumble a ball forward and, by rule, an illegal forward fumble is an incomplete pass. That makes it a dead ball. A 5-yard penalty is then assessed from the spot.
Jackson spinning the ball forward when he was not down by contact constituted an intentional illegal forward fumble and thus an illegal forward pass. Had he spun it backward, it would have been a live fumble.
A similar call was made when Plaxico Burress did the same thing with the Steelers on Oct. 1, 2000. |

WROOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!!
The call on the Burress case was ruled a fucking fumble and a recovery by Jax on the 44 yard line. It wasn't a similar CALL (as the ESPN morons said) it was a similar PLAY called the exact opposite way. Jackson wasn't down, he SPUN the ball, never raised it above mid-torso level, he wasn't THROWING it to anyone...it was a fucking FUMBLE!! By this ruling there can NEVER be a forward fumble in the NFL, all forward fumbles are now passes. Fucked again by the NFL. The God damned WWE has more credibility than the NFL.
Chris Mortensen is a fucking moron anyway...some fucking EXPERT!! |
|
|
| Beetisbadascan |
| BTW, it wasn't an intentional forward fumble either. Jackson THOUGHT he was down...he wasn't intentionally fumbling it and he wasn't trying to pass it. He's a dope and a moron who was celebrating a first down. It was a fumble. |
|
|
| arizonasternfan |
| I guess it was a judgement call on wheter he intetionally fumbled it forwarded. And spinning the ball forward, is an intenional forward fumble when your not down. Just because he was too stupid to know he wasn't down, doesn't change what he did. He intentionally spun the ball forward, I'm not sure how you can argue that. Therfore he fumbled the ball forward, which you can't do. I think, the rule changed after the Holy Roller play the raiders used to win a game back in the Madden days, but I'm not sure that's when they changed the rule. |
|

I voted no.
Never saw the play, don't know if it changed the outcome of the game or not... but it was a poll on the raiders... I hardly read the question honestly.
But the raiders will always get shit on by me......... Until Al Davis dies. |

Bull MOTHERFUCKING shit!!
Everyone knows why that forward fumble rule was put in place, The Holy Roller play. He OBVIOUSLY was NOT trying to advance the ball with a forward fumble. He OBVIOUSLY wasn't PASSING it to anyone. That leaves ONE thing; an unintentional fumble (because he THOUGHT he was down).
Since he thought he was down, it could NOT have been an intentional fumble. Unless you are TRYING to fumble the ball forward (which he was NOT doing) it's not intentional. He was celebrating a first down...not intentionally fumbling the ball.
It's a MISAPPLICATION of the fucking rule. |

Oh, and by the mother fucking way. Had the refs. been employing the "forward fumble" rule, it's still a live ball and can be recovered by the other team. It's only a penalty if it's recovered by the fumbling team. So...no more bullshit talk about the "forward fumble" rule.
That would NEVER apply to this play...so what was it?
all together now...

Exactly, stupidity does not change the rules. |
|
|
| arizonasternfan |
| Did he spin the ball on purpose? Is a spun ball a fumble? So since the answer is yes to both, doesn't that mean that he fumbled the ball forward on purpose, which is the reason for the flag? And the play doesn't continue when the ball is fumbled foward, its a dead ball from there. The refs maybe shouldn't have followed the rules, since he wasn't trying to get an advantage by fumbling foward, but he did fumble forward on purpose, just not to gain an advantage |

Whatever happens to the Raiders its always one of two things.
1. A conspiricy against the Raiders
2. Anyones fault but theirs
Its always the City, the Countys , the officials, the other teams fans, the media or anyone but the Raiders themselves.
Will Raider fans ever take responsibilty for anything? Like the Raiders are the only ones that ever get bad calls. One bad call does not make a 2-9 season. Face it. Your team sucks now and will until the day your owner dies. Quit blaming everything on everyone else and face reality. |

Straight from the NFL rule book!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FORWARD PASS
1. A forward pass may be touched or caught by any eligible
receiver. All members of the defensive team are eligible.
Eligible receivers on the offensive team are players on either
end of line (other than center, guard, or tackle) or players at
least one yard behind the line at the snap. A T-formation
quarterback is not eligible to receive a forward pass during a
play from scrimmage.
Exception: T-formation quarterback becomes eligible if pass
is previously touched by an eligible receiver.
2. An offensive team may make only one forward pass during
each play from scrimmage (Loss of 5 yards).
3. The passer must be behind his line of scrimmage (Loss of
down and five yards, enforced from the spot of pass).
4. Any eligible offensive player may catch a forward pass. If a
pass is touched by one eligible offensive player and touched
or caught by a second offensive player, pass completion is
legal. Further, all offensive players become eligible once a
pass is touched by an eligible receiver or any defensive
player.
5. The rules concerning a forward pass and ineligible receivers:
(a) If ball is touched accidentally by an ineligible receiver on
or behind his line: loss of five yards.
(b) If ineligible receiver is illegally downfield: loss of five
yards.
(c) If touched or caught (intentionally or accidentally) by
ineligible receiver beyond the line: loss of 5 yards.
6. The player who first controls and continues to maintain
control of a pass will be awarded the ball even though his
opponent later establishes joint control of the ball.
7. Any forward pass becomes incomplete and ball is dead if:
(a) Pass hits the ground or goes out of bounds.
(b) Pass hits the goal post or the crossbar of either team.
8. A forward pass is complete when a receiver clearly
possesses the pass and touches the ground with both feet
inbounds while in possession of the ball. If a receiver would
have landed inbounds with both feet but is carried or pushed
out of bounds while maintaining possession of the ball, pass
is complete at the out-of-bounds spot.
9. If a personal foul is committed by the defense prior to the
completion of a pass, the penalty is 15 yards from the spot
where ball becomes dead.
10. If a personal foul is committed by the offense prior to the
completion of a pass, the penalty is 15 yards from the
previous line of scrimmage. |

Some on another list brought up an interesting point. There's also a rule in the books saying that a second pass is illegal and 5 yard penalty from the line of scrimmage/loss of down.
Now, what rule do you fucks and the fucking refs. choose to apply in this situation. I still say it wasn't a pass. However, if it was it's the SECOND pass of that play and illegal. It should have gone to the RAIDERS on downs. |

Fuck off, if this call were made during the Pats/Bears game it would be a huge controversy, and it would have dominated ESPNs programming all day. Anyone that has watched football knows these obscure rules always seem to pop up against the Raiders.
Just for the record, I never said this team was good, but they have lost alot of close games this year. If you are a San Diego fan, enjoy the regular season because the Chargers will have an early exit come playoff time. The so-called worst team in the NFL just exposed you on your home field. Imagine what the Patriots or Colts will do. |

Yeah well..... I lived here my whole life (bay area) and I can't stand the raiders or niners. Raider fans are just assholes convinced they are always right, and niners fans are just pompous bastards consumed with living in the past and their 5 rings they won back in the LATE 80's and early 90's!

The dead ball point is what allowed them to keep it. You are right that a illegal pass is loss of down. But, this foul was a dead ball fall, meaning you get to keep the result of the play, in this case gaing the 1st down. Then lose 5 for illegal second forward pass. Its pretty straight forward. Its like offsides on the offense, its a dead ball foul, no matter what happens on the play, the play is dead. Its really not that hard to understand |
|
|
| arizonasternfan |
| I think the point is should they change the rule to allow this to be a fumble. The refs ruled that he threw it forward on purpose and that means its a 2nd forward pass. Then they did the rules right after that. Its one of those letter of law rulings. They followed the letter of the law, but not the intent. Parker should be punished for his stupidity, but I still think the call is correct, by the letter of the law |

| A friend brought up a good point about this rule. By this rule, you can spike the ball forward late in the game after a catch to stop the clock. This would be legal, take the five yard penalty and you can still use the middle of the field. I wonder why nobody has done this before. |

I think in the last 2 minutes or maybe its the last minute, you get a 10 second runoff for a penalty. I know teams have lost the chance to kick a FG because of it. But, sure you could if your down 2 scores with 3 minutes to go, like GB was last night. Sometimes people just don't think of it. Like the Wisc coach that had the 3 offsides to end the half against PSU |
