Democrats Reject Key 9/11 Panel Suggestion

Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, November 30, 2006; Page A07
It was a solemn pledge, repeated by Democratic leaders and candidates over and over: If elected to the majority in Congress, Democrats would implement all of the recommendations of the bipartisan commission that examined the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
But with control of Congress now secured, Democratic leaders have decided for now against implementing the one measure that would affect them most directly: a wholesale reorganization of Congress to improve oversight and funding of the nation's intelligence agencies. Instead, Democratic leaders may create a panel to look at the issue and produce recommendations, according to congressional aides and lawmakers.

dont go mental. they havent even been in power 1 day yet.
the reps had 6 years to impement any of them, and did nothing.
give only 6 months tho, then we can talk intelligently about what the dems did, or didnt do.

By creating and implementing the Dept of Homeland Security the Republicans successfully circumvented the 911 commission. Instead of streamlining the Intelligence community they made it more bureaucratic. Becuase Homeland Security it would be nearly impossible to do what was reccomended by the 911 Commission. So now you have a choice, Dismantle the highly unproductive Homeland Security and implement the Recommendations of the Commission or leave it alone and deal with this monster your wonderful Republican party created.

I hope they don't dismantle it.... I can't imagine the STREAMS and STREAMS of threads redeye and his friends will start saying how unpatriotic and how unamerican the democrats are... and how they don't want homeland security and how they're just going to make things easier for terrorists..... *sigh* I can already hear the Rush ditto-heads and their proverbial spin on it already... it's giving me a headache

I can't wait until Little Bush v. Baker takes place next week. The weigh-in is Sunday.

For anyone who has ever served in the Military. Homeland Security is a clusterfuck. There was nothing wrong with the existing agencies other than fact that they all had different computer platforms. Its just alot of people got rich when the Republicans made Homeland Security.

Homeland Security was not a Republican idea. Lieberman had it, told Bush they'd give him the first Patriot Act if he went along with it.

I have said over and over around here that first they have a hearing, then a panel, then a bill, then implementation, a new bureaucracy, loads of government jobs.

And whatever the problem was, continues totally unaffected.

Republicans lose an election, we shrug, we figure out what we believe.

Democrats lose an election and change their rhetoric to match the population.

They don't care what they say. It's all about the jobs and federal money.....

By the way my theory will be tested come Wednesday when the Dems release the report on Iraq.

I have already written my response- which even if I'm wrong I will post. It's title?

THE BIG BETRAYAL PART 3: WELL, NOW THAT WE'VE WON WE ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO IN IRAQ SO WE DECIDED TO NOT SAY MUCH, MAYBE PRESSURE SYRIA.......

Or did you think they would follow the Rumsfeld plan and leave!

When did James Baker convert to the Democratic party? Just becuase a Report that was commissioned by the former Republican majority Congress that will show a very negative situation in Iraq is not excuse to label it a Democratic party report. Dude turn off FoxNews and Rush Limbaugh and listen to and READ some middle of the road reports.
