I don't know if it's Chip's fault. They are using someone else to host their site and poll. Chip may be in over his head as well.
But something does need to be done, seeing how the contest is over this Friday. |

Lay off -- if they would give me access to the MySQL database for BTLS.com we wouldn't keep having these problems.
I upgraded Advanced Poll from 2.06 to 2.07 -- seems to have fixed the problem.

Considering you are the "tech" guy for Bubba, you need to let him know that dqtech.net is straight amateur hour and they need to bring in someone that knows their ass from a hole in the wall. Second, it wouldn't hurt to have someone around there to help make the right decisions on server setup, bandwidth commits and system administration.
I don't know if the polls broke because you did a update or visa versa (generally mysql doesn't break on its own(I know, I manage LARGE mysql clusters)). But just a little bit of advice, never make system upgrades during your peak times. If that means not touching the site till after 2 am in the morning, than that is the best thing you can do.
So besides all of the above, I still stand by my previous statement in a previous thread. DQTECH is nothing but straight amateur hour with some smoke and mirrors. If you look at the DNS information for DQTech, they can't even manage to use their "own" DNS all around. The 4th DNS (66.118.151.22) is registered to a company called "Total Employement". I wonder if they jacked a linux server "How To" on setting up SuSe Web Servers.
You should probably contact the idiots at DQTech.net and tell them to close SSH before someone brute forces in or uses apache / php "exploits".

Well I'm sorry if Chip can't take the heat that he causes, because he always has an excuse for something that goes wrong that he is in charge of. It is BS he should man up and take it like a man, and yeah I know the rules and there are more worse comments out there then mine. No disrespect to Mutt or anything but he F'd and it could cause problems down the road if one contestant cry's foul over this. Bullshit Mr. Vegas. These fucking hosting jerks want to be lords and keepers over domains (no pun intended) that are not there's. If you are on a dedicated server paying $2000 or what ever bucks a month, then you should goddam well share the ultimate admins authority over the console to that server. Look around until you find a host that doesn't want to tell you when you can take a shit or maintain the site and database.
I have much bitter and litigative experience with this fucking shit, so it has really caught a nerve. Hang in there, Chip! |

I'm not being a kiss-ass here at all when I say running an IT service that's online 24 hours is no small feat on top of a buggy operating system that needs patches every 6 hours. You need remote access to restart it remotely and monitor it and you need some good god damn luck. So it's the organization's fault for not planning on having people on call or at least able to remotely manage the thing, which kicks the responsibility upstairs.
That's why chip HASN'T been fired because to run this kind of thing with what he's got is extordinary. Something like this you can turn on and it might last a month, or it might need constant help and there isn't much way to tell.
