I just drove down to Sarasota, where I was ultimately headed anyway. I know that city better.
But I would like to know if there any good blues jams in the Tampa for future refrence. |

Ybor is a great as it always was. Dangerous?? not anymore dangerous than anywhere else that you have streets full of bars and drunks walking the streets. If you're a dick you'll likely to get smacked by someone. ( not calling YOU a dick just saying there is someone for anyone there)
Any normal person would have a GREAT time there on the weekends. Alot will depend on your age and tastes, but it's hot whore Heaven every weekend. |

Ybor is better if you're younger and/or if you like hip hop clubs, or if you like to go to 5 different clubs in 1 night. Really even the last part... almost every night there is a better spot away from ybor than inside ybor... regardless of genre of club/music.
Other than you're better off at Jackson's, Blue Martini, Channelside, Green Iguana and that other restaurant/club by it on Anderson Rd...
When i say young, I mean there is a lot of 18 year olds who think they are super cool now that they can go to clubs, lots of fights from th at group.
shit i went to visit a month or two ago and went to Empire and had to side step a brawl on the corner there by where i parked to get in... |

Your first mistake was your choice of clubs. Adobe Gila's is great for a more mature crowd, King Corona for jazz and cigars, Gameworks which is a MASSIVE arcade with booze, a movie theater with a full bar, lots of great small food places, NY style pizza that is AWESOME, etc. There is more to Ybor than fighting in a shitty ghetto club. Not to mention going there during the day and learning the history behind the city. Really lot of cool stuff. |

No you misunderstood. I was going to empire on purpose... I'm from tampa I know all about it, i was just using the brawl on the corner as an example of typical 7th avenue behavior these days... i've been clubbin in tampa about 10 years now so i've been to every kind of club at least a couple times...
hell even as a "hood" club ybor sucks... better off going to 112 downtown or Manillas down on the other end of 7th avenue(warning little to no AC there).
I dont even keep track of the names anymore i mean they change so much other than a handful. It sucks too most of the clubs in tampa are small and they market so there is huge amounts of people in a small space... for example Bahasa on Monday night... they turn people away from fire laws sometimes its so crowded, but yet somehow is marketed to where its the place to go on monday with Bucs players and everyone else who's in town celebrity wise. |
